During his college years, Zeno met a boy named Marbas and became fast friends with him. It was during one of their talks when Zeno expressed his frustrations and his aspirations when Marbas explained his power to make wishes come true. A contract was formed: in exchange for a fragment of his soul, his family would have better fortune. It went well, at first, until the good fortune turned on its head.
Blaming Marbas, he set off to find him the next day, demanding he fixed what he caused, only for Marbas to tell him he had no idea of what he was talking about. The consequences weren't his fault. Marbas managed to convince him to make another wish. He wanted to be cured of his condition, stop being a burden on his family. In the end, it was all a trick. He willingly went through a ritual that turned him into a demon, realizing only when the deed was done that the price for it had been his sister's life, and Marbas openly mocked him, telling him he cured him, and only giving him a few tips on his current condition before setting off, never to be seen again.
His first contract with a human came from a misunderstanding. Saer was desperately trying to summon a demon to get rid of his dad. Zeno walked in just in time... and decided to take it so Saer would keep at least some of his soul. It's complicated.
His neighbour upstairs, who he met by chance. They bonded over their shared interest in journalism, and she's the host of a radio station! Hopefully she doesn't have to find that he's not exactly a human... He really means nothing bad to her.
