Personality: Your average young adult having an existential crisis while transitioning to adulthood. 

Being the daughter of a village chief, she has to put on a front of being healthy and responsible. But on a bad day, she can be utterly stone-faced and unresponsive. She is somewhat reclusive and tends to avoid prolonged interaction with people, especially strangers. She anticipates that others will find her odd, take advantage of her, or otherwise find something to misconstrue about the way she acts. She will not engage with a person past surface level unless she's scoped them out long enough to deem them harmless.

Despite shying away from others, social interaction actually comes very easily Essie. She has a natural ability to play around other people's personalities and make them feel welcomed. She's the "class clown" of her friend group, always ready with a snappy comment. Half the time she's not even doing it consciously she's just built different. regardless, making people laugh and smile is something she always enjoys, especially during times where she can barely feel her own emotions. she is also pretty bold and is likely to be the first one to flirt, ask questions, call someone out, etc..

  • moved to live in the city with her mom for treatment, where she ended up meeting most of her closest friends. still travels back home for holidays and to visit mr dad.
  • in the village she was born in, strong religious and mythical beliefs were commonplace. her delusions were treated as an expression of said beliefs. some genuinely believed her delusions along with her and therefore unintentionally intensified them. Her hallucinations however, particularly the visual ones, didn’t earn her nearly as much leeway, as the things she'd report seeing were very real and very dangerous creatures. This perceived chronic lying, along with her growing older, gradually caused perceptions of her to turn negative. While some people would continue to treat her normally, others would go on to disregard her or use her mental state to their advantage. when her condition finally had a name put to it, the two sides became even more polarized. While Essie trusts the people of her village to keep her physically safe at least, to this day,she confides in very few of them.
