infamous conqueror; left misarlace because it could not support his ambitions, and has spent most of his adult life lording over one place or another. he is a cold and distant but competent ruler, but he usually gets bored with a single location after a century or so and moves on. currently lingering for an unusually long time for him; it's not entirely clear to outsiders why this is the case, but it's mostly because he doesn't want to uproot yefrem.
he used to be very soft and kind-hearted, but Something--he doesn't talk about it at all, and attempts to find out have met little success, only uncovering that it was likely supernatural--happened and caused him to close up and begin behaving more coldly/viciously. any perception of losing control of a situation is met with barely-controlled panic, he rarely sleeps or eats like he should, and he deals poorly with enclosed areas.
those rare few that get past the conqueror shell (so... mostly just yefrem) find a man that is clearly not well and is afflicted with some sort of constantly-worsening curse, the nature of which he will not disclose but at least causes him severe pain. he is deeply paranoid and mistrusting, and while he can be affectionate he demands control at all times, and attempts to make him drop that demand tend to end poorly.
He's a bit eaten at by his guilt over what he did to Yefrem; not the stockholm thing (he doesn't know that's what it is and he probably wouldn't... care....), but killing the core of the rebellion and a lot of yefrem's social support and thus completely destablizing his mental health. He's vaguely aware that he only cares because he has to deal with Yefrem's Issues but doesn't let himself think about it.
