Dyzek, God of Death
"Do you need anything? Would you like a scarf? Passing into the Roots can be very disorienting, I know. I'm here if you'd like to talk."
About
compassionate . melancholic . weary . peaceful . devoted . guilt-riddled
Born from the Life Goddess’ Enid’s own blessed touch, Dyzek is a depressed Death God residing in “The Roots,” Divita’s underworld, tending to the spirits of the dead and ensuring a calming welcome to the newly passed. Elder sibling and borderline secondary guardian of Hapoc, God of Chaos, they were lovingly (?) spared his wrath when he attempted to overthrow the Pantheon, and as such is the only God to not have been sealed away in pocket dimensions of their own design. Dyzek maintains their post in their lonely realm of dirt, among the souls they shepherd, tending to their carpet of worms and knitting piles of sweaters and scarves. They just wish they could have done something to save their divine Family, to save their brother, to save anyone. The survivor’s guilt, as it were, eats them alive.
Thankfully, an encounter with the party’s wizard has given them a true friend and powerful Champion capable of wielding Dyzek’s Divine Treasure, the Gravewarden’s Gauntlet, a magical glove capable of channeling the dead. Having contact with mortals, strong adventurers working to bring the Gods home, has inspired Dyzek, made them a bit braver, eager to prevent Hapoc from winning again. Despite it all, though, they could never bring themselves to hate their brother. They wish they could have helped him more, been there more. It’s in their nature to care, extremely.
Dyzek has the ability to raise the dead, to send spirits back to the Material Plane if it is not yet their time. As well, as with all of Divita’s Gods, they have a primal Beast Form—in their case, a miles-long Death Worm with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. In Divitan myth, Dyzek is described as “The Worm at the End of the World,” who will one day swallow the planet and bring about the end of days. Nobody told Dyz about this though, and the pressure of one day being a World-Ending Monster really stresses them out. :,(
