Whether you're born in The Underworld, or The Overworld, everyone is born with a friend. They can only be seen by their owners, but the roam the land as they please, either following the one they are bound to, or running around freely. Familiars can take any shape, size or color, matching closely to the bound individual's soul. Although they cannot be seen by anyone other than their owners, they still play an important role in the land. They help (or harm) when they can. Their roles are called their duties, and their sole purpose of living is to fulfill them.

• Bursa loves hugs and food. His favorite drink is hot chocolate, and he collects sweaters, wearing a different one everyday. He is usually seen following Aniela around wherever she goes. •

•Lives in: The Underworld
•Bound to: Bast
•Duties: To harbor The Shadow Cat, and to cause mischief wherever she can
• Skreepea thrives in the shadows and loves to come out and make wise cracks. Her favorite thing to do is to grab food and drag it into her shadow only to put it back with only a bite or two taken out. Her fire comes out when she's feeling tricksy. It's also perfectly warm for smores. •

•Duties: To help with the annual Balloon Festival
• Skouse helps manage the yearly Balloon Festival. This year, he met Bursa and they became good friends. He hasn't seen him since, and has been trying to find him again. He can hear the future and loves peppermint. •
