Unique and Enhanced Abilities

 Demon Sight/Mystic Eyes

As a result from being saved by Vergil (though he thought that the child would be dead) by the attacking demon that scratched her eyes and carrying an experimental Golden Orb she had taken from her parents' research, Claudia developed a sort of sight that allows her to tell if someone has demon blood in them. This is mostly the result of parts of Yamato's essence seeping into her as she was recovering from the attack. Though not quite exactly a sense (like Nero's Devil Bringer), it simply shows her auras and colors if a person talking to her is of demon-kin. This ability had most likely saved her a few times when she was going around on her own before her arrival in Fortuna City. The downside is that her eyes have an unnatural and uncanny color and pupil, making her self-conscious towards them. At the end of DMC5, as Yamato reunited with Vergil, so did the essence from her eyes and without it, Claudia turns weak and blind. Nero instead substituted the essence with his own Devil Trigger, thereby restoring them back to their original strength and color.

 Enhanced Sight, Strength, and Endurance

Though not as tough as any of the hybrids, it's enough to make sure she is not bothered by walking and running fifty flights of stairs or carrying something that would normally make many people strain themselves, without any sweat. Her sight has also gotten much better as she had Myopia originally and would wear glasses. She could spot something from a quite a distance without any aid of binoculars or scope. However, due to people giving her weird looks for her eyes, she wears fake glasses up until Nero asked her to stop wearing them at the end of DMC4.

Weapons

Creed [M107 (or Barrett M82) Sniper Rifle]

Originally a failed weapon made but hidden (and discarded) from the Order of the Sword, she ends up using it in the final battle against some demons while Nero fights the Savior. She ends up carrying it with them as a memento of sorts before eventually running out of bullets. Upon meeting Nico, the other pleaded to fix and upgrade the weapon. She caves in and the result is her current demon piercing war machine. The bullets Nico provided her are especially imbued with Demonic Essence, making it highly effective against demons. She also made it more durable, letting Claudia drag it around and set up without much need to be careful at handling it. Creed's original creator is unknown but according to Nico in the events of Creed, the creator must have been someone originally outside of Fortuna City.

 Menace [The Bat]

Menace was Claudia's first weapon in DMC4, as she had only obtained Creed near the end of the battle. Nero jokingly calls the weapon "a menace to demons" or "Menace" for short, as it had probably tasted and absorbed blood from all the battle it went through. They find out later that the durablity and ability to withstand various pressure (and even a laser) is due to the fact that it absorbed many demonic essences. Later on, Nico also upgrades it with now having the ability to summon spikes and even turn it into a chainsaw if Claudia needs it to.

Misc. Info

  • The first name considered for her is 'Cassia', meaning 'Empty'. However, the whole Emperor Nero and his wife Claudia in-joke stuck and thus, her name.
  • Her headcanon voice actress is Alexis Tipton
  • Claudia's eye color was originally deep maroon. However, Yamato's essence made her eyes turn into an uncanny pink. Combined with her scar, many people found her face off-putting, sometimes unattractive and 'dangerous'.
  • In the events of DMC4, Claudia originally wanted to fade in the background, probably finish whatever research is required of her, and then leave Fortuna City. Her being tangled with Nero was purely coincidental, but fortunate as that very incident caused her to form bonds with Kyrie (and Tasha, once they find her later on) and even a romantic relationship with Nero himself.
  • Claudia's first words to Nero is 'So, who's this jackass?' which is why that is her chosen nickname for him.
  • At the end of DMC4, Nero gives her the cross hairclip she has in her DMC5 look. It is also implied in between DMC4 and DMC5 that Claudia was the one who cut Nero's hair.
  • Her diligence and well-written research work towards demons (as she was helping out Nero to find the demons' various weaknesses) earned her a credible reputation as a demon info broker. It even got to the point that Morrison even began seeking her out (and recommending her to other solo hunters) for when an unusual demon strikes out. This earned her a nice extra cash to help out with their daily expenses.
  • Her outfit colors are meant to be the opposite of Nero's, with blue being her top and maroon/dark red being her jacket.
  • She is prone to give strangers and people she doesn't trust the 'death stare' and coupled with her scar and uncanny eyes, it makes quite an intimidating sight. However, Claudia is a big softie towards people she bears her heart to.
  • Despite her hesitance towards too much PDA or near-tsundere-like tendencies towards the subject of love and for physical comfort in general, Claudia is very much touch-starved and crave Nero's touch when they are alone together.
  • She doesn't show it outwardly but Claudia is deathly afraid of needles and getting injected. It's why she doesn't want to get tattoos or asks to be put asleep if she ever does need to be pierced. She doesn't scream but she freezes and her face pales when confronted with one.

History (Childhood to DMC4)

Not much is known about Claudia's childhood save for the fact that both her parents were killed in a demon swarm (she never specifies where she came from) and the most that Nero could get out of her is that the scar is due to a traumatizing near death encounter with a demon. Later on in Anamnesis, they find out that Claudia is one of the few survivors of the once grand Libera City and that her parents were fast growing researchers that were killed in the Libera City Massacre nearly ten years ago.

As a child, Claudia is very petulant and awkward, craving love and attention but not getting enough of it from her parents. Due to her parents' positions in her city, Claudia was almost always excluded and outcasted, though it is more of apathy than outright malicious bullying. This has caused her to become extremely wary and distrustful of new people she meets, often voluntarily distancing herself to avoid getting attached and hurt. Despite not receiving much love and care, however, Claudia loves her parents and wanted their approval and attention. This had led to her participating in most of their research towards Project CASS and is part of the reason why Libera City falls to a demon siege.

During the fall of Libera City, Claudia was tasked by her dying mother to leave their home with an experimental Golden Orb. With her father dead and mother at death's door, she obeys and runs away, not looking back. A demon manages to catch her off guard as she was escaping the city walls and slashes her face, hence the scar. The demon would have finished her off if not for a passing Vergil examining the ruckus happening in the city. He unintentionally saves her from the raging demon to sate his curiosity but leaves her nonetheless once the job is done. The subsequent release of his devil trigger along with the experimental golden orb's activation fused itself onto Claudia's scar and eyes, reviving her and enhancing her marginally. Her myopia disappears and her stamina and strength received a boost, though it would be some time before she realizes this.

Leaving Libera City, Claudia is passed from various different orphanages in different cities. She never stays long due to her 'creeping out' most of he kids and facility from her unnatural eyes, scar, and indifferent attitude. They found her off-putting and terrifying, therefore ostracizing her and isolating her. This continued on up until she reached fifteen years old, as she runs away from the last orphanage she is transferred to and applies herself to a local research institute specializing in demonology. A kind man realizes her potential and allowed her to work for two to three months. The man then connects her to Agnus in Fortuna City, knowing that she'll develop much further in research there. Agnus realizes who her parents were and their research coincides with his so he accepts her and sponsors her stay in Fortuna City, two years before the start of the events in DMC4. She meets Nero there as he was originally the assigned escort and guard to her by Credo. Claudia didn't want to interact with her 'bodyguard' more than what was necessary but his aura intrigued her and she realizes the familiarity of it compared to her savior. She never says anything about it to Nero, thought she subtly lets him know that it doesn't matter what or who he is once they became actual friends.

During the events DMC4, Claudia simply acts as Nero's NPC support and follows through his story. When Nero fully gets his arm merged with Yamato, however, Claudia adamantly tells him that he will follow him despite the danger lurking (and quite frankly, her boss is more likely crazy at that point, so she's really much safer with him). She says that because they are friends and that the arm is an important research material that could potentially help others. Later on, she does meet Dante in the forest and also realizing how similar his aura is to her savior (and to Nero) back in Libera City, she questions him. To her dismay, he deflects her questions and simply comments on Nero "taking care of his nerdy girlfriend" to their embarrassment. After the Order's downfall and Nero's defection, Claudia follows him and Kyrie to their new home, defecting from the Order as well.

Her escapade with Nico in finding certain Order documents has her learn that the man who took her in during the few months she ran away from the orphanage has passed away from a demon attack.

Present (Post-DMC4 until DMC5)

With the addition of Nico and the van, Nero, Kyrie, Claudia, and Tasha all establish the Fortuna City Mobile Branch of Devil May Cry. This is also when Claudia tries to be more proactive in missions and joins Nero and Nico in most of them. As Nico upgraded the M107 and Bat she used previously, her combat capabilites have improved a lot (though still not within Nero's level)

A few months before DMC5, a hooded man cuts off Nero's arm (with it, Yamato) and rather than stay back, Claudia enters the garage and is shocked at the sight of Nero bleeding out. She turns to look up at the enemy but is even more bewildered at realizing it was the same man who saved her all those years ago. The man seemed to have realized she knows so to prevent her from interfering, he wipes the memory of his aura from her eyes, making her faint alongside a distressed Nero (who saw it happened but couldn't prevent it) Later on when Nero is stuck in a coma, Claudia visits his room everyday and dutifully takes care of him until he wakes up.

At the start of DMC5, Nero and V come back (with V separating from the group and Tasha following him) from their defeat against Urizen. Claudia supports Nero and during the one month training Nero went through. During this period, Claudia also began searching for info on the different demons they could potentially face, giving Nero the prep-work he needs to be ready. At around June 15th, they met back with Tasha and V, as Claudia also realizes that the two had become a couple during the one month they spent together.

Like Tasha, Claudia stays back with Nico in the van and around certain areas (and difficulties) Nero can ask her for assistance via sniping. If Nero talks to her before departing, Claudia can provide advice on demons that would appear and how to take them down more efficiently. In very rare instances (mostly when players reach S rank before the boss) Nero can ask for a kiss that would temporily grant him a strength buff for a minute.

When they reunite back in the van after Nero finds out about his father, Nero would inform Tasha about V's fate (though a month later, he arrives with Dante and Vergil) and gets angry at Lady and Trish's well-meaning but misplaced advices. Claudia will attempt to say words of comfort and platitudes as well but will change midway through. She will instead ask Nero what he wants to do about it, whether he wants to let it be, to stop them, or to kill him.

Claudia: Nero... I--No. [She looks at Nero dead in the eye before continuing] So, what will it be then?
Nero: Huh?
Claudia: I'm asking you what you want. Do you want to just leave them?
Nero: No--
Claudia: Then to kill him?
Nero: ...
Claudia: Or do you want to stop them? [Nero looks lost for a second but the reassurance in Claudia's eyes give him the support he needs]
Nero: Yeah... sounds about right. Can't let them have all the fun. [Nero smirks] Give me a kiss?
Claudia leans in without hesitation. Nero smiles as he hears Claudia's parting words when he jumps out of the van
Claudia: Go get them, Nero!
Nero: Just hang tight, Claudia... I'll be back real soon...

Upon Vergil and Dante's retreat in the underworld, Nero comes back with his arm fully grown. A week later, Nero notes that the 'Never Miss' Claudia has begun missing a lot of her shots recently. A few days later and Claudia has lost most of her strength, as well as her endurance and sight. Nero begins panicking, wanting to go get his father as they all figured it had something to do with Vergil and Yamato reuniting once more. Instead, Trish and Aradia suggests that rather than go after the father, the son can probably try it instead. Reese agrees to help out if anything goes wrong and Nero simply let parts of his Devil Trigger's essence seep into Claudia's eyes and scar. Instantly, she regains her sight and strength, as she thanks Nero with a shy kiss. She apologizes to Tasha for making her carry most of the work as the scene ends with Morrison appearing, requesting for some info on some demons and the entirety of DMC squad stands. Nero asks 'What do you need?' before he scene fades to black.

The last scene is of Nero, Nico, and Claudia in the van as Nico teases Nero about wanting to cry. Claudia rolls her eyes at the two bickering idiots. Nico comments that if Nero doesn't want to cry, Claudia can do all the crying for him (which earned her a protesting 'What!?' from Claudia and a spluttering noise from Nero) The phone rings and it's revealed from Kyrie (with Tasha in the background) as Nero accidentally swears at them earning him a "HEY JACKASS, YOUR LANGUAGE!" from Claudia. The van screeches to a hault as they were surrounded by demons and Nero hangs up to fight them. Claudia sets up her sniper on the roof of the van, providing support as the credits roll and the game ends.

As an extra post-game scene, it shows Claudia and Nero visiting Red Grave City, supposedly after being told by Nico and Tasha to cool off. As they head out to the building, Dante shows up in all his glory with a very much alive and healthy V in tow. It ends with Claudia holding up her phone as it connects with Tasha's. "Hey Tasha? We have a surprise for you."

Devil May Cry 5.5: Anamnesis

Anamnesis occurs two months after the events of Devil May Cry 5. It tells the in-depth story of Claudia's past, as the events in this game will happen in the ruined city of Libera, Claudia's now revealed previous unknown home. Parts of some missing info from Tasha's history during the events of DMC4 are also hinted and explained as well.

The DLC-sequel shows the story of Claudia's childhood and what happened during the fall of Libera City. There are also segments wherein the players may explore odd notes and random papers from an unknown scientist (assumed to be Agnus' former henchman, possibly investigating the lost research found in the ruined city) detailing parts of Tasha's past. Most of the missions are fast-paced and the story-driven parts are given through various flashbacks from each hidden Golden Orb found and acquired. This also marks the return of Claudia and Tasha as playable characters from the Mission Interlude: Left Behind DLC of DMC5. Compared to the previous DLC, they are now a more proactive playable character in the game with taunts and a new mechanic present.

The main story and other information regarding Anamnesis can be found here. Be wary of spoilers as the DLC is post-DMC5 and will therefore mention spoilers from it.

Nero

The Jackass

"Man, you should've seen her when she was still working for the Order. Didn't know I was into the fierce-nerdy type until she outright called me a jackass."

f05077e2-8cb0-4403-98b1-0f52b4137916.jpg

Claudia's love interest both for DMC4 and DMC5. When Claudia and Nero first met, her initial impression of him was a cocky jackass (hence her nickname for him). It doesn't help that Nero gives off nearly the same 'aura' as Claudia's savior, meaning that she knows Nero is not just an ordinary human. She was wary of him first, trying her best not to get too close at the holy knight. Naturally, Nero takes this as a challenge and begins teasing her endlessly because he refuses to be one-upped by her (and he didn't like how she keeps calling him jackass).

Most of their relationship and interaction stems from light bickering and nickname calling (both starting out as something to annoy the other while slowly turning into somewhat of a fond nickname). Most of the time, Claudia is the one who tends to get flustered first, not knowing how to deal with Nero's brash, smug attitude though she also loses steam when the other laughs at her attempts to counter whatever response she got. That isn't to say that in certain bursts of courage and sincerity from Claudia, Nero ends up being the one flustered. If they're both teamed up against another party, however, be prepared to get tag-teamed hard from the two as they're both stubborn enough to never surrender in the face of adversary (jokingly or not)

As the years go by, they naturally become accustomed towards the other's presence, managing to read the others' mood better, and they also learn the boundaries for their bickering (Nero finding out about straying away from the topic of her scar and eyes and Claudia finding out about not calling him useless or deadweight) Soon enough, they start taking things to the next level, as Nero's taunts add in a flirty tone to it and Claudia slowly responds in return. Two years before the start of DMC5 marks the start of them officially dating. By the start of DMC5, their relationship is solid and going strong.

More of their NSFW headcanons and in-depth relationship can be read here.

"Oh and by the way," Nero turns back, eyebrow raised at her tone, "watch out for the spikes, jackass."

"What? Don't you have any faith in me, Lame-dia?"

"Faith in your fighting abilities, yes. Faith in keeping your head intact? Nope, absolutely none." Nero shakes his head, an amused smirk spreading onto his face.

"I'm sure I'll hold on long enough to not get myself killed."

"Good. Because if you die, I'm personally bringing you back just to kill you myself." She huffs at Nero's laughter, letting herself check out her ammo instead.

Other Relationships

Found Family

"Family don't end with blood."

Tasha

A few years after Claudia's migration and sponsor into Fortuna City (and the Order of the Swords), she met one of the residents, Tasha. At first, Claudia didn't exactly know how to respond to Tasha's general mother-hen-like tendencies, letting her get swept away by the other's kindness and generosity. After a while, she begins opening up and trusting the other girl, and at one point, had even confided in her with her growing feelings for Nero. In DMC5, along with Nico, she and Tasha go on adventures and sometimes scouting missions as Claudia provides intel while Tasha provides the meals.

18656781_dGzrd0DTQINVSnp.png

Julius

As her only son, she loves and dotes on Julius constantly. Eventually, Claudia calms down on her motherhood-fever but her support and complete adoration of her son remains. She bonds with him through their shared fascination with Demonology and research, and with him also inheriting her enhanced eyesight, she teaches him all she knows about sniping and support. Claudia is very soft on her boy and will literally go mama wolf on anyone mistreating him.

b7rOjJE.jpg?1

Kyrie

Claudia treats Kyrie like a little sister, a friend she must protect at all cost. This stems from the events of DMC4, with Kyrie getting constantly kidnapped and taken by demons. Back in the Order, she would meet up with Kyrie and exchange stories from outside Fortuna City and in return, Kyrie would perform some songs and a lullaby to help her get rest. If you touch Kyrie, be prepared to receive HELL from Claudia!

J85u8Aw.jpg?1

Nico

Nicoletta "Nico" Goldstein met with Claudia after the events of DMC4 and before the events of DMC5. As she was trying to get to the bottom of what happened in Fortuna City, she meets up with Nero and sure enough, also ends up associating with Claudia. Originally, the M107 sniper rifle Claudia carries was a remnant from the Order but with Nico's persistent pleas, she agrees and remakes the old rusty gun into a battle-ready war machine. Since then, they have remained friends and Claudia tags along for any demon hunting job Nico might find.

dYFcLL6.jpg?1

V

Claudia appreciates V, especially after saving and helping out Nero so many times. It helps that Tasha seems to like him, despite their rocky start. Though she does feel a slightly apprehensive (as she is with any new people) she does relax seeing as he doesn't have a definite 'aura' like those demons (though she is admittedly curious as to why he reminds him a bit of Nero in terms of the aura)

5489398?1575302461

Reese

After Anamnesis, Claudia was formally introduced to Reese Fusco, Dante's significant other. Despite being wary at the start, Claudia warms up to her especially seeing how she cleans up afer Dante. The two bond over their Sparda boys and their reckless and cocky attitudes getting them into trouble (and of course, helping and cleaning up after them)

5442709?1574746923

Aradia

At first, Claudia has no idea what to think or how to feel about Aradia. However, after being acquainted with her even more, Claudia eases up her guard and joins in Aradia's numerous trips to various shopping centers and karaoke bars. Most of the time, Tasha and Reese join in, especially after a heavy and strenous mission.

wq1thqb.jpg?1

Dante

As Nero's uncle, Claudia respects and even admires Dante to a point. However, remembering their interactions in DMC4, Claudia couldn't help but begrudge him a little (for keeping things from both her and Nero) As she grows closer to Reese however, her grudge from all those years ago slowly dissipates as Dante slowly worms his way towards Claudia's familial heart. Calls him 'gramps' in response to him calling her 'Nerd/Nero's nerdy girlfriend'.

Ox97Tgy.jpg?1

Trish

Claudia felt intimidated by Trish the first time they met in Fortuna City (when she was masquarading as Gloria) as Claudia could definitely tell that she is a demon. So it wouldn't be surprising to know how guarded she is when they met again in Red Grave City. Trish only seemed to find her wary nature amusing and when Aradia began mixing in with the group, that amusement turned to fondness. As Claudia interacts more with them, she slowly grows to respect and admire Trish greatly especially from all the good things Aradia has told about her.

Gdqf6Yx.png?1

Lady

As Dante's companion and one of Reese's friends, Claudia didn't feel the need to overly watch herself, as Lady's demeanor isn't as harsh as Trish's at the beginning. Nico does make jokes about Nero and Lady (which she has no idea what means exacly) and while it does make her doubt herself a bit, she still pays it no mind. Lady does inquire about her rifle which she tends to nerd out on and it has become one of their favorite topics to talk about (barring Reese and Dante's misadventures)

NxOGE9q.jpg?1

Vergil

Claudia will always have mixed feelings towards Vergil. There is a terrifying sense of respect and fear everytime she remembers him cutting off Nero's arm or him saving her from the demon siege. At the same time, there is anger and confusion as to where he stands now that the deal with the tree is over. Over all Claudia is rather indifferent towards him as she cares more for Nero's well-being (and seeing as Nero wants to get along with his few living relatives, she would rather see him happy rather than fight over something that had already happened)
