Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me- Low

"The story is old - I know.
But it goes on.

Oh and it goes on."

Physical Description

Long straight greyed/black hair, brown eyes, short beard, he thin-thicc build. Side eye stress wrinkles.         Strong, but also a dipped waist. His boots and gloves are made from seal leather, and the front loin              cover is made from whale leather.

Mental + Emotional

Weighed down with guilt over past mistakes, Onen does his best to better than he was yesterday, but he's human. And flawed. He has become an extremely self-critical person, and takes the opinions of others a bit too seriously. He has grown into gentleness though, and thinks over his actions more now than ever before. Especially when his actions effect others, as they rarely don't.

Speech

Fluent common tongue, familiar with Dwarvish. Light accent. He also knows what quite a bit of what the Ancient Language means, but is incapable of using magic.

Powers

He possesses some masterful skills with a war axe, and is very skilled with a long bow. Onen is also a talented hunter, tracker, fisherman, and sailor. However, his strongest skills are with him at sea; he was known in Teirm for his whaling excursions as a young man.

Relationships

Brom Holcombsson- former friend; there is much to be made up for, and though Brom will never forgive Onen for his past actions, he is learning to tolerate him again. Onen on the other hand, has tried to leave his past with Brom behind him and be a better man, and hopefully, he and Brom may be friends once more. Maybe.

History

Onen was born and raised in Teirm, where he spent much of his early life as a fisherman on his father's whaling ship. Due to a sense of duty and wanderlust, eventually he traveled to Surda and became one of their scouts; there he met a man named Brom Holcombsson. A man who's dragon had died recently, but who served the Varden in their effort to find the a certain dragon rider, then a mystery to the world but who would later be revealed as Brom's son, Eragon. From the beginning, Onen found Brom to be a sour and frustrating individual. But they managed to get along, and after many trials, became reluctant friends, and then brothers.

But Onen felt homesick, and chose to visit his family back in Teirm during an unfavorable political uproar in the city. He ended up drinking, and saying too much to the wrong person, having felt very comfortable in his birthplace. Someone told of his allegiance, and his whereabouts. Galbatorix's army chose to slaughter his family, and then come for Onen; but when he found his family dead in their seaside house, he turned on the Varden in despair and fear, effectively causing the destruction of a camp of scouts for the Varden, and perhaps most importantly, throwing Brom under the bus. However, it wasn't the last mistake he would make, as there was a second egg, of which only Brom, his dead dragon, and Onen knew of. Fearing that Galbatorix could have two more dragons, as he didn't believe the other egg was safe with Brom, Onen had a spellcaster destroy the egg before Brom could save it. As the egg crumbled into dust, Onen began to wonder if he had done the wrong thing. But fear drove him, as it does many men. Even from miles away, Brom sensed that the egg was gone and knew whose fault it was.

Brom did not forgive him. A bitter hate filled the void between them. So much that Onen was terrified of Brom's wrath, knowing he would kill him for his cowardice if he could catch him. So he disappeared. It was thought that he'd died; as Brom had searched for the traitor, but couldn't find him. And the last egg required his attention. While
Onen had gone into hiding under the Hadarac desert, where a band of miscreants, thieves, and other criminals who were hiding from the guard. Out of this mess, he formed the Burning Banners in his guilt. A rebellion against corruption, who later surfaced when the war of Galbatorix had ended. It became the only family he would know henceforth.

Beliefs

As a strong believer in deities, he tends to pray before a battle, sleep, or a meal. He believes in mostly Dwarven religion, but takes bits and pieces from the common beliefs of most folk. Aside from that, Onen also believes strongly in freedom of opinion, and thinks that the majority of, if not all governments are corrupt. With the reluctant exception of Nasuada and The Varden. He leads the Burning Banners, made up of bandits and outcasts, into vigilante justice to prevent the likes of Galbatorix from ever happening again; he hopes desperately that he has suffered enough for the mistakes of his younger self, but still fights to redeem what honor he has left.

Daily Life

He spends his free time building mini sailboats in bottles and writing shanties and poems to read to his men; always a captive audience. And though he hates the desert, he spends a lot of time in it reconstructing old caverns into extra rooms for the hideout. This allows him plenty of conversation with the many banished Dwarves that follow him.

Trivia

Onen has been called many things, mostly unseemly and dishonorable things, but many nonetheless. However, one name that stuck with him was given to him jokingly by Brom, who often called him 'Lilac' for the lilac blooms he would tuck behind his ears to grind up later for their useful oil, which served as an astringent in several medicinal and cosmetic ways.
Simply, the nickname was out of fondness; it remains a good and sad memory but little more. He still uses lilacs often to this day.

"The most passionate love is betrayed and becomes the most bitter hate."
