positive >
    >> Dignified > Full of class and sophistication, she's not like those other kits, she's got more dignity than that. Poppy holds her head high and acts very much the part of a mature young cat.

    >> Attentive> Nothing gets passed her, Poppy pays close attention to those around her. She doesn't like to miss out or ask others to repeat themselves and so makes sure to block out distractions and focus on whatever is happening in front of her.

    >> Honest > Values the truth and believes that only guilty and evil cats have things to hide. There's no reason for a good and noble cat like herself to be anything but truthful.

    >> Headstrong > She is often described as stubborn and hard-headed. Poppy never cares to reconsider her stance and won't back down from a fight.

    >> Skeptical > Questions everything and everyone. Everyone has an ulterior motive and nothing can be accepted at face value alone.

    >> Introverted > Prefers spending time alone rather than in the company of others. Will often avoid large gatherings but doesn't mind smaller more personal conversations.

    >> Unforgiving > Holds onto grudges and simply doesn't let things go. Poppy makes herself a mental list of all the things wrong with the cats around her and it'll be difficult for her to let any of those faults slide.

    >> Judgemental > Is quick to pass judgment on others, often based on first impressions. She can be rather harsh in this aspect, especially towards those who break the rules.

    >> Petty > Very passive-aggressive and spiteful towards those around her at times. Poppy often seeks out ways to inconvenience others when she feels that they deserve it.

kithood [ 0 - 6 moons ] >
Poppykit was born to Deerhop in early Leaf-bare. She has three siblings, Rootkit, Thistlekit, and Lilykit. She has a doting grandmother named Owlheart and many uncles around. But for some reason, her dad is nowhere to be found. Oh well, they're doing just fine without him.
The cloudclan nursery always had cats coming and going, she had to share a den with so many noisy kits. Poppykit didn't really want to be their friends, at least not all at once anyway. It felt like too much was going on all the time and Poppykit just wanted to sleep or do something quiet most the day instead.

Over the moons Poppykit grew to understand how complicated her family's situation was. Deerhop was a loving mother, but was unable to really keep up with all four of them. They had relatives in other clans and even some who became kittypets. Her family was wrought with traitors and cowards. Rootkit agreed with her on this and made it a point to say that the most outrageous offenders had been males. Poppykit wasn't sure she believed in that sort of bias, but she couldn't really see their brother Thistlekit in the same light after this discussion and discovery.
After an argument with Thistlekit one day, Poppykit and her brother would take to opposite ends of their shared nest to mope and stay away from the other kit's play. It was annoying being around Thistlekit sometimes, he was so angry at everything, but Poppykit didn't really know where else to go when everything was so cramped and loud still.
Things might be better if they learned to get along, but so far that seemed impossible.

During a festival, Poppykit got to meet many kits from other clans. She absolutely hated the loud and noisy crowd of squealing kits, but it was her only chance to meet these cats before she'd become an apprentice, so she stuck it out anyway. She was very glad she did after meeting a she-cat named Mantiskit. Despite being a few moons younger than her, and surrounded by her rowdy and strange littermates, Mantiskit's maturity stood out. Poppykit was looking forward to meeting Mantiskit again... She'd have to find her some nice looking flowers like she promised.

Poppykit's cousin, a kittypet named Peanut one day came and asked to join the clan. Poppykit was beyond stunned when Goldenstar allowed it, welcoming the she-cat and giving her the name of her request, Thrasherpaw. Soon Poppykit and her littermates would have to train alongside this cat.

Goldenstar stepped down and retired, leaving Ashspark to step up and take his place. Ashstar was more stern on traitors, being protective of his clan and his remaining daughter Sleepypaw. Poppykit may only be a kit, but she was sure that Ashstar would be a brilliant leader.

apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] >

Poppypaw was given her new rank and assigned to a tom named Egretfrost. She was familiar with him a bit already, he was the dad of Acrontail's kits. Poppypaw was a bit skeptical about whether or not he'd be a good mentor for her, he seemed like a decent dad but if he was anything like his kits or mate... Thankfully that was not the case, Egretfrost proved to be an admirable warrior and a great mentor. Poppypaw was honestly happy to have such a tom help guide her to warriorhood. How could two fathers of the same clan and sharing the suffix frost be so different?

The war against Marshclan and Emberclan really started up and set the stage for disaster. Poppypaw wasn't scared of battle, although it did put a strain on the... friendship she hoped to kindle with Mantiskit. But it shouldn't be too major a loss anyway, since being from different clans their friendship was doomed from the start.

Ravenfrost. Just Ravenfrost. Why was this rat back all of a sudden? Why did everyone just instantly forgive him? Deerhop was upset, Thistlepaw was livid, and Poppypaw was right there with them. How could anyone think about trusting this waste of space rogue after her broke the code and abandoned his own kin? He was no Cloudclanner. He was a freakin coward. Things would have been better for everyone if he had just starved to death out there.
And now Poppypaw couldn't even trust Owlheart or the rest of her "dad's" family anymore. They all chose his side as if she and Deerhop didn't even matter. The betrayal stung like nothing else. But she was sure that someday they'd get what they deserved.

Poppypaw met Mantispaw again at the next festival as promised, they both even remembered to bring the flowers. Poppypaw was absolutely giddy about receiving water lilies from the other apprentice. But their conversation took a more serious turn. Poppypaw was glad that she and Mantispaw were on the same page, they would be enemies and... that was all. Poppypaw couldn't understand why she felt so disappointed by that when... wasn't that what she wanted? Why she liked Mantispaw so much?
They both knew their place and Poppypaw respected that. She really really did. So there was nothing to be disappointed about. Nothing at all. So why was she still like this?

Poppypaw went back to just focusing on herself and her own clan, as messy and uncultured as they were. She'd never thought she'd grow to resent being born in Cloudclan, but here she was. They were all suffering for Ravenfrost's crimes and it just wasn't fair.

Another battle came and went, and finally, Poppypaw had the chance to see some action. Leafdrift came running back from patrol one day covered in fresh wounds, he called for reinforcements. Poppypaw went along and joined the battle.
She met one of Mantispaw's littermates on the battlefield, a timid little molly. Poppypaw pinned her opponent and hissed harsh words at her, digging her claws in the strengthen her point. The molly claimed to be there, not for her clan, but to help her littermates. How ridiculous. This was a battle, she shouldn't have come at all if she wasn't prepared to fight. Poppypaw sent the pathetic girl running home and went back to trying to find an opponent who was actually worth her time.
But retreat was called, and Poppypaw wasn't one to disobey orders.
Later it was discovered that Thistlepaw's mentor had been killed and that Rabbitpaw died a few days later of her wounds. Thistlepaw seemed angrier than ever. Good, even more reason for her not to speak to him ever again. She didn't need that emotional mess anywhere near the perfect life she was trying so hard to build for herself.

warriorhood [ 12 - 60 moons ] >

Poppysnap was made a warrior, named for her fierce nature and combat abilities. She took pride in her name and dutifully accepted her new role. She worked hard to toss aside her feelings of resentful for her position and just work towards making things better instead. There was still the matter of her traitorous kin to deal with, but maybe someday she'd finally get the kind of life she deserved.

Shortly after she and her littermates were named warriors, another border scuffle happened and revealed that Ravenfrost- yes that rat of a tom again- had been the cause of the war. While living as a rogue, Ravenfrost stole from the other clans. He was why Marshclan and Emberclan insisted so greatly that their prey was being stolen and Cloudclan was to blame.
They never should have let that rat back into the clan- he would have been better off starving to death. Things would have been much easier that way.
Poppysnap still fought against the Marshclanners when they attacked though. She had a duty no matter how much it upset her to be defending such a dishonorable cat.
Poppysnap get several new scars, but when her opponent started spouting nonsense and lies about her- How could anyone think those things? She was as great a warrior as they came! She was no traitor or spy! She was the real deal! Poppysnap broke away from fighting to argue with the cat but for some reason, he refused to concede.

One day Poppysnap got her wish. Ravenfrost was found dead along the border, Marshclan scents around him.
There was no lost love between her and her father, but it was.. unsettling to find another Cloudclan cat killed (murdered?), even one as despicable as Ravenfrost.

Marshclan's forces were withdrawing from the war. Rumors stated that they were no longer party to it, claiming to now be neutral in the conflict. Poppysnap wasn't sure she believed this and would continue to be cautious of them. But the timing... It was very... strange. Ravenfrosts sudden death and Marshclan's withdrawal, surely the two were connected but dare she say they planned it like that? Punish the one cat responsible and then be done with the rest.
It made sense but Poppysnap wasn't sure how she felt about it. A warrior doesn't need to kill to win their battles and now Marshclan had gone out of their way to kill a Cloudclan warrior.
She wanted to just leave Ravenfrost's death alone- it was no more than he deserved- but it wasn't right.

Ashstar was gone and Sparkstar became leader. It was a rough transition for Cloudclan, Poppysnap had admired Ashstar's leadership. He hadn't been keen on allowing rulebreakers in the clan, and she didn't know enough about Sparkstar yet. Still, she'd follow her clan leader without question, because that was still of course, a part of her duty.

Poppysnap had to get Mantisdawn out of her head. She was... beginning to suspect she actually did feel something for the Marshclanner.  She enjoyed her company and wanted her approval. She wanted Mantisdawn to like her back or to see her the same way. But then- if Mantisdawn broke the code, or encouraged Poppysnap too- the two other them could never be anything more than... passing friends. It hurt a lot. Over the moons these feelings hadn't disappeared but Poppysnap couldn't ever act on them. To do so would be... a betrayal of everything she stood for.
She needed a distraction. She needed a purpose. Something within her own clan so she could maybe just- forget Mantisdawn. Forget how her heartbeat so fast and she melted at the sight of her.
Was this what love was?

Sparkstar was gone as quickly as she came, soon replaced by Starlingstar. And then her "cousin" Thrasherwing was named deputy. It was a harsh reminder that real loyalty was valued so little. That all her efforts to be a proud and honorable warrior despite her blood were passed over for the efforts of a kittypet or a clan traitor. That cats like those managed to fit in while she was outcasted.
A part of her wondered why she was trying so hard. Her efforts weren't rewarded or even really acknowledged. Or was she- really doing her best? She'd still kept the old flower that Mantisdawn had given her. Though it had long since wilted, the petals had decorated her nest for so long. It was time she give it up.

She was surprised one day when she crossed paths with Daisyspring. Daisyspring had always been her denmate growing up and was the daughter of an elder Poppysnap actually did look up to. She liked Daisyspring well enough but also knew the cat was forgetful and clumsy. Poppysnap had certainly never gone out of her way to be friendly towards her but had no reason not to be polite.
It was a very awkward encounter and it turned into a hunting trip. Poppysnap would have rather gone alone but... She didn't want to be isolated from her clanmates anymore either, and Daisyspring was a safe enough cat to start with.
The hunt was successful, they'd each managed to catch something. Though Daisyspring was still Daisyspring and forgot her mouse and went off to pick flowers at one point. Still, they made it back with their catches and even though she was irritated, Poppysnap made sure Daisyspring brought back both the mouse she'd caught and the flowers. No reason to waste that effort.
And then Daisyspring gave Poppysnap the flowers to decorate her nest with and Poppysnap forgot how to think.

It was such a random and kind gesture- and Poppysnap really didn't know what to do. She thanked Daisyspring and the two separated.
Poppysnap carefully wove the wildflowers into her nest. They were already a bit wilted from the cold, but that didn't matter much to her. She often would find herself staring at the petals curiously, it was such a small gesture but to her, it felt like it meant something.

The two of them continued to find each other and chat every now and then, it was becoming something of a habit. Though Poppysnap was often perhaps a little standoffish, Daisyspring wasn't bad company.
Daisyspring and her made plans to go out together sometime in new-leaf to pick more flowers for their nests. It definitely wasn't something Poppysnap would usually do, but... She found herself looking forward to it.

New-leaf came, and with it, new problems. Flooding happened in Hailclan, leading them to come to Cloudclan camp for shelter. Starlingstar made the decision to let them stay, he didn't even hesitate to be far too generous. But Poppysnap would respect his decision anyway, she'd just have to be vigilant in watching for trouble.
It was difficult adjusting to camp with so many more cats around. It was hard for her to find any space to herself and it was draining.
She and Daisyspring spent time together, and despite how outgoing the calico was, it seemed even she was having trouble adjusting to the crowded spaces.

Poppysnap learned that the illness had taken the life of her long-time crush Mantisdawn. It was- well... There were so many emotions stirred up. She missed her dearly. She felt guilty about her feelings, and how she was mourning her more than her own clanmates. And that she found out so late after the fact- it shouldn't hurt so much. They could hardly even call each other their friends. And yet, it did.
A part of her would always wonder 'what if'. What if things could have been different and she could have confessed? But it wasn't possible- it was never possible and never will be. She felt so stupid for wanting anything like that. Why was she so stupid?

Poppysnap ended up confining in Daisyspring of all cats- or maybe of course it'd be her. Daisyspring was among the few cats Poppysnap really spoke to now, and the only one she had starting making a habit of seeking out. And despite her hostility and flaws, Daisyspring never once turned her away.

Kitestar was murdered in Cloudclan camp, raising suspicion from everyone. But with no clues, there were no suspects. Hailclan just had to deal with the loss on top of everything else. Swantuft became their new leader and made Robinear his deputy, Poppysnap worried that the rest of their time in Cloudclan would be just as dramatic and chaotic. But soon the clan gathered together again and went back home.
It was nice to have the camp so free again. Like she could actually breathe again.

Thistleflame was assigned an apprentice. Poppysnap was skeptical, she knew her brother- or at least she thought she had. He was reckless and brash, too angry to control himself. And now he was being assigned to work with a young apprentice? But... seeing them leave together, Poppysnap couldn't ignore how in synch they seemed. How Thistleflame wasn't just lashing out at the new responsibility.
Was it possible Thistleflame had changed? He seemed so different now.

Rootcry succumbed to Greencough, like so many other clanmates she was gone. She hadn't agreed with everything Rootcry did, but the two of them had always said they'd have each other's backs. And now her sister was dead.

Reports came in of dogs in the territory. Apparently, her brother had seen them himself. Apparently their traitorous kittypet uncle died too. The dogs remained in the territory, terrorizing patrols and injuring or even killed several cats. Poppysnap herself made sure not to leave camp needlessly, and to be vigilant on patrols.
She tried to stay with Daisyspring a lot- someone had to make sure she didn't wander off on patrol and get attacked while alone. She was honestly concerned something like that may happen to her.

Her cousin and deputy Thrasherwing never returned. No one knew what became of her, but Starlingstar had to appoint a new deputy. He chose Brookshine.

Poppysnap was assigned her first apprentice, a young brown tabby named Pantherpaw. She wasn't sure how this would go, but she was honored to have an apprentice at all. As prideful as she could be sometimes, the tortie wondered if Daisyspring would give her some tips if asked.
For a while training was difficult, with the threat of dogs lingering they couldn't just wander the territory as they pleased. But Pantherpaw was a hardworking young cat and had quickly become quite determined to learn all that she had to teach him. It was a fun challenge, trying to keep training difficult and worthwhile for this ambitious cat.

Swansong appeared, bringing with her a rogue. The rogue had apparently saved her life, and while Poppysnap was hesitant to trust him, Daisyspring pointed out just how happy the two of them looked. Swansong trusted him, she had been saved and brought home thanks to his help. While Poppysnap looked down upon such relationships, she had to admit the circumstances were a lot different than a cat looking for such things across the border. She had risked her life to save Cloudclan's kits and been brought so very far from home. There was honor in that much, and it should be respected.
Foxy was allowed to stay in the clan and after a few moons of observation and mentorship would even be given the rank of warrior.
Poppysnap chose not to think on this matter any further. It wasn't much concern for her.

The dogs threat was finally gone.
But things just continued to change for the clan, hardly giving them time to catch their breath.
Brookshine had died and Grasshopperhill had been made deputy for reasons still unknown to the clan.
Hailclan cats began to run to Cloudclan again for refuge. Their own clan in such a desperate state yet again, but this time not from natural disaster, but from their own poor leadership. Well, it couldn't really be blamed on Swanstar, apparently, he had taken ill and had not been awake for some time. Instead, it was their deputy who was taking matters into her own paws.
Poppysnap didn't disagree with exiling cats who had broken the code. But she at least saw the reason to listen to her clanmates and their concerns. If you couldn't keep their trust and best interests at heart, could you ever call yourself a leader?
Rumors started that Marshclan was in similar distress. And suddenly everything in Cloudclan had seemed so much smaller in comparison. They really were doing quite well for themselves, weren't they? Or at least, they weren't tearing themselves apart from the inside. Although... There were plenty of suspicious happenings within Cloudclan as well. Maybe they should really look into those.

Pantherpaw died. They had been out in the territory, and Poppysnap hadn't even noticed anything was wrong. But then- he just- collapsed. He died of heatstroke. And- she should have noticed. She should have realized he needed a break and to cool off somehow, no matter if he protested.
This- this moment. Failing her apprentice in such a careless way, was her greatest failing. Not crushing on a cat from another clan, not losing a battle, or being overly snappy with her clanmates. Failing her apprentice, letting him die like that- this was her worst failure and she would never live this day down.  Pantherpaw deserved better, he would have been a wonderful warrior someday and now-
He was gone.

Poppysnap was glad to hear the hopeful Hailclan cats talking about returning home soon. With Swanstar waking up, it was just a matter of time before they would get their camp to themselves. Still wouldn't solve the issues that were cropping up left and right, but it was a bit of good news for everyone.

Swanstar was killed suddenly, just two days after he'd finally woken up. There was a clear sign of a struggle, like Kitestar before, Swanstar had been murdered. But was this planned or impulse?
The only clue was a tuft of grey fur caught in the Hailclan leader's claws. The one who had discovered the body, had been Thistleflame. And just from that much, knowing who Thistleflame was growing up and everything- she knew dreadful deed had to have been his work.
How could she have been so stupid to hope that he'd grown up? Even though she never planned to associate with him or the rest of their 'family' again she still had hoped her clanmate wouldn't be so dumb and violent. That maybe after getting mated and mentoring his first apprentice, that he'd stop being that kind of tom who rushed head-first into battles based only on emotional outbursts.
But she's been wrong.
He was going to ruin things for all of them, drag Cloudclan down again as their 'father' did. He was going to cause a war.
She didn't know why he killed the Hailclan leader, or why he made such a weak effort to cover things up. But things couldn't continue like this.

Poppysnap had to tell Starlingstar her suspicions, she needed to bring this matter to him and solve things for Cloudclan.
A part of her wanted to handle things once and for all. Get rid of the issue before he could do any more damage. But vigilante justice... She needed to do this the right way.
Starlingstar didn't believe her. He wasn't going to do anything about it, he didn't think Thistleflame killed Swanstar. But he was wrong. He was being naive. Poppysnap never liked questioning her leader but- come on! This was- this was too much. Thistleflame can't be allowed to just- just lash out and murder Hailclan's leader. Hailclan needed justice, and if a war broke out then not just Thistleflame, but every cat who defended him would be to blame.
She didn't want that to happen to her clan. Not again.

Poppysnap was made to stay back from the gathering, and she at least agreed that was fair. Her emotional state was not up to properly represent Cloudclan as she was now, but she couldn't get past this. How could no one believe her? How could no one do anything about this? Were they really okay sharing their den and camp with a murderer?
Daisyspring was worried, and Poppysnap apologized to her quite a bit for getting loud and angry. It's just- she couldn't understand how Thistleflame was going to get away with killing another clan's leader like it was nothing.
A mid-day storm didn't seem like a lot to worry about at the time, but when she learned what happened... Well, it was awful. The hope bridge was gone and a ghost cat claimed she had spies in all four clans?
Poppysnap only believed half of it. No, more likely... Wild had gotten a rogue to help her trick the clans again. This was all just more lies and it had been planned out from the start. The storm and the hope bridge catching fire was just a coincidence that helped sell the lie to the gathering. Everyone was already freaking out over the fire, so giving them such an unbelievable story was easy.
What were Wild and this other rogue planning? Was she going to try and rejoin the clans again? Take control again after everything that had happened?

It wasn't long after that she would have to eat her words.
Poppysnap had joined a group for a hunting patrol. It was a rather large group, but she supposed they needed all the un-poisoned prey they could get after that morning's incident. She wasn't going to let any more of her clanmates become victims like that.
Daisyspring was there and when she and Daisy split off from the group, they were joined by a jittery young apprentice named Claypaw. They hadn't yet managed to find anything when a commotion started up, sending all thoughts of hunting from their minds. They went to investigate and-
There was a Cloudclan warrior, Drakefeather, standing over the corpse of another. Rosecry.
The shouting and arguing intensified, and Poppysnap dug her claws into the ground, wanting to lash out and attack these code-breakers, these traitors, these rats. But she stayed glued in place. Clinging close to Daisyspring who saw a cat she'd admired covered in blood, confessing his sins as a murderer and monster.
Justice was important, and these cats, the deputy, and warrior both, would reap what they had sown. But Daisyspring... She was more important than seeking vengeance, she didn't need to see any more of this.

Drakefeather and Grasshopperhill were killed. The details don't really matter anymore, but it confirmed the existence of Blizzardfang and in Poppysnap's mind, it meant her brother had not been Swanstar's killer. Could he have? Sure. But would he ever work with these cats? No, never. Or at least... that's what she believed.

Poppysnap stayed with Daisyspring and even in the rain, they went to check on the ducks. Apparently, Drakefeather used to take care of them, and now that he was gone, Daisyspring thought she might need to take up the mantel.
The incident was awful but it put a lot of things into perspective. And it made Poppysnap reevaluate her values.
She promised then and there that she'd stay by Daisyspring's side, she'd give anything to make this adorable molly happy and keep a smile on her face. The world... didn't seem so dark when Daisy was around.
They confessed their love to each other. But they held off on announcing their mateship for a little while. It was... The clan needed time to get through the recent events, for the next deputy to be named, and for them all to reevaluate what they wanted to do next.

Halfbranch was named Starlingstar's fourth deputy, and Poppysnap was hopeful this cat would know what she was doing.
During a festival, Poppysnap was surprised to be made the hunting proctor. She took the honor gracefully and set about running the first hunting competition on Cloudclan's territory. It was... in the same place that held such terrible and recent memories, but they all had to move on and continue.

Poppysnap was given her second apprentice. A stern young molly named Cobblepaw, and Poppysnap knew right away she'd be a remarkable warrior someday. And... Poppysnap would never make the same mistakes again, she wouldn't let the same fate that took Pantherpaw to take another bright young life like this.

Finally, Poppysnap and Daisyspring announced their mateship. It was a little awkward, but it was nice. Her old mentor was now her father-in-law, and really was the closest thing to a father figure she'd ever know. She was happy.

When news of Blizzardfang's passing spread throughout the clans, Poppysnap held a bit of hope that it meant things would be getting back to normal again soon. Sure, things were definitely strained between the clans, and even some interpersonal relationships were rough now given past accusations but... maybe it was just her optimistic mate rubbing off on her, but things were looking brighter than they had in a long while.
Two-legs had built a new bridge where the old one once had been. The Hailclan refugees gathered together and returned to their camp. The four clans were right again at last.

Some of the clans elected to keep former dark forest spies within their camps. This was a decision Poppysnap couldn't understand, would never understand. These were cats who willingly betrayed their clans and worked to bring them harm. And yet, Emberclan gave Sleetpuddle a brief slap on the wrist and Hailclan housed Rippletide as a prisoner with the intent to try and rehabilitate her back into the clan- you know despite that she'd been behind killing two of their leaders.
She wasn't the only one to disagree with this it seemed, as two Hailclan warriors returned to join Cloudclan's ranks shortly after the decision was made.
Seeing her grandmother welcome Littlestrike, now Blackstrike with open arms brought a growl to her throat. What happened in Hailclan wasn't her cousin's fault, but no matter the circumstances, he chose to abandon his clan for another. Cats who did that weren't much better than the spies themselves, willing to abandon everything for the sake of their own selfish whims. But regardless of her feelings, Blackstrike and Whitetalon were here to stay.
Poppysnap had to hope that Sleetpuddle had been truthful in his confessions, that there were no more spies hiding within Cloudclan.
Marshclan continued sending escorts along with their medicine cats and behaving in a cautious manner, though they had opened the border again and were slowly working to rebuild the relationships they once had. Poppysnap couldn't blame them for the distrust they showed after everything that had happened, but her fur would bristle anytime that distrust was directed at one of her own.

A regular half-moon meeting ended in disaster, Bramblewhisper returning without Waverose, bringing the news of the older medicine cat's murder at the paws of Drakefeather-
The traitorous killer had returned from the dark forest as a ghost and he and Snakeheart set out to attack the medicine cats at crystal falls. Drakefeather was killed, hopefully for good this time, by the guard Marshclan had sent alone. The guard however had lost his own life in the battle.
Blood being spilled in their sacred space didn't bode well for anyone, but losing their senior medicine cat was a difficult blow for Cloudclan.
Poppysnap wasn't really sure how to comfort Daisyspring who was feeling Drakefeather's betrayal all over again at the news. If he wasn't dead, Poppysnap would love to shred him apart with her own claws.

The clan's situation only grew worse as Bramblewhisper's body was found near the Marshclan border. Investigating the death became a high priority, and Starlingstar had several discussions with Sandstar about being allowed to investigate in Marshclan's territory.
Marshclan had been hesitant, but after a while agreed to allow the investigation with some limitations. Several Cloudclan and Marshclan cats went to investigate together.
Something must have happened, as Cloudclan warriors were being returned to camp battered and wounded. Two more warriors had been taken to Marshclan with even more severe injuries. Without a medicine cat, it was anyone's guess if the cats brought back would live or die.
It was a day later that the younger Marshclan medicine cat, Creamytail had come to their aid, agreeing to help Cloudclan in their time of need and help train a new medicine cat for Cloudclan.

Discussions continued between Marshclan and Cloudclan. The culprit, both for the incident in the tunnels and for Bramblewhisper's death; was a bobcat. The large predator had taken up residence and were picking off lone cats as prey.
This could not be allowed to continue, and for the justice of Bramblewhisper's death and all the injuries her clan had suffered, Poppysnap would eagerly join the mission to drive the beast from the territories for good.

Poppysnap was assigned to a flanking group positioned near the lilypad lagoon. Her role was to ensure the bobcat couldn't escape from this direction, so they could drive the beast from it's den and away from the clans entirely.
Daisyspring was in the group next to hers, she had the role of support, acting as back up should any of the cats need it.
It was both thrilling to work alongside her mate like this, and also terrifying as she in no way wanted to see the calico hurt.
Alongside her in group was her brother. She knew she had been wrong about him before but... she couldn't find it in her to trust him. She recognized she hardly knew the tom she'd been raised alongside at all. Hopefully, this strain wouldn't jeopardize their mission, they would have to work together here.
Thistleflame had been attacked but they successfully got the bobcat running in the right direction. Some cats broke formation and charged-
A call for support was made when cats on the frontlines had been wounded and started to tire- Poppysnap held her position but dread flared within her at Daisyspring being called to help in a more exposed role.
Seeing her mate go after the bobcat- Poppysnap lost all thought of following orders and maintaining the ground. She found herself breaking position to go to the calico's aid. It was wrong but, letting Daisyspring be hurt like this would be far worse.
Poppysnap let out a cry when Daisyspring was suddenly struck and thrown backward- she rushed to her side and saw the bleeding and-Daisyspring wasn't conscious.
Poppysnap called out for help, and it was Thistleflame who came. Though injured himself, he had her get Daisyspring onto his back so he could carry her to safety, back to Creamytail were she would be healed.

This whole day felt like a disaster, and yet, the clans had been successful in driving out the bobcat. And Poppysnap was left with a new perspective on her brother. Thistleflame hadn't had to help her, but he stepped forward and offered without hesitating. Thistleflame had always been the one to carry the wounded or the deceased back to camp- a job awarded to him thanks to his large stature.

Daisyspring was on the road to recovery and was soon back to being her cheerful self again, though there was certainly a lot on their minds after everything. They'd heard later that the Marshclan leader had died shortly after the mission. But most cats involved were making good recoveries.
Thistleflame had to be dragged back to the medicine den after ignoring his own internal injuries from the ordeal. It was strange seeing them and his mate there, but Poppysnap was sure to be polite and cordial towards them when they crossed paths. It was likely too late to salvage anything from the sibling relationship, they'd never been close even as kits, not like Daisyspring and her siblings. But she didn't have to hate him. Thistleflame was a Cloudclan warrior and had proved himself time and time again, Poppysnap had just... never let herself see it.

A new medicine cat apprentice was appointed, Cirruspaw was still quite young but being chosen by Starlingstar and Halfbranch, they had to hope she'd take to the role well.
Soon everyone who had been injured were released. They had a lot to celebrate, with Daisyspring's good health, and Cobblepaw passing her warrior assessment. Her apprentice was given the name Cobblestep. Poppysnap was thrilled to see the young cat thrive- she still grieved the loss of young Pantherpaw.

When leaf-bare arrived, the nursery was practically bursting with kits. The thought of having kits of her own crossed her mind once or twice, but she couldn't imagine doing so now-. She did her best to keep the camp stocked with fresh-kill. The clan would certainly need it.

Towards the end of the long leaf-bare, Daisyspring's nephew was expecting his first litter. It was still rather poor timing, but could have been worse. And Poppysnap looked forward to seeing Daisyspring's eyes light up at meeting her new family members.

Deerhop retired and was moved to the elder's den. Poppysnap was glad for her mother to find rest there, and she was more than happy to spend time visiting her there along with Acorntail and Egretbranch.
Several young warriors died of starvation- Cobblestep among them. The clan grieved, and it hit them all hard. The loss of lives, and the loss of such healthy young warriors at that.
Leaf-bare couldn't end soon enough.
A kittypet kit was found on the territory by a patrol and brought back to camp for a bit when they were unable to locate the kit's home and family. But with how much was going on, the kit couldn't stay, but luckily she seemed enthralled with the idea of going to Hailclan anyway.
So Thistleflame and Martenfang took it upon themselves to bring the kit there and see if the clan would take her in. It was a good thing Hailclan did- Cloudclan wouldn't turn away a kit in need, but they really couldn't handle the extra mouth to feed right now.

Daisyspring's brother Warrenpath announced he'd be having kits and- Poppysnap couldn't help but feel furious with him for it. No one was getting enough to eat, his own grandkids were on the way already and he just chooses to have another litter-
Poppysnap held her tongue, but she couldn't help how she fumed when thinking about the situation. She understood the family had been through a lot, Warrenpatch losing his mate must have hit him hard but- more kits? Now?
She couldn't understand how irresponsible her clanmates could be sometimes.

More cats starved to death, and several others caught green-cough. Rabbitlily's kits were born healthy, a whole four of them. That shouldn't be a bad thing. It wasn't a bad thing. It was just- bad timing.
Then Acorntail and Egretbranch both died of starvation. Daisyspring's darling parents were gone, sacrificing their own meals for their kin's sake.
A more vindictive part of her would look at the cats expecting kits and say 'look, see what you've done to your own parents' but she wasn't that cat. She wouldn't be that cruel.
She just wanted to hold Daisyspring close and grieve the loss alongside her. Poppysnap had adored Egretbranch, and she admired how much Daisyspring's family all loved each other. They didn't deserve so much loss and tragedy.

One of Rabbitlily's kits had to be brought to the medicine den after an accident had injured the little thing. Warrenpath had three kits, Daisyspring's new niece and nephews, all seemed perfectly healthy despite the season.

Martenfang left the clan, moving back to Hailclan again. Poppysnap would turn up her nose at mention of it, but stopped herself from saying something like 'good riddance' in response. In the wake of Blackstrike's death, it wasn't that surprising Martenfang would choose to return to Hailclan and be with their mother. But Poppysnap would never have any love for the family that continued to make and stand by these choices.

New-leaf finally arrived, and Poppysnap couldn't be happier. It wasn't long before she and Daisyspring were at the pond to welcome the ducks home again and out looking at the newly budding flowers.
The season was a truly wonderful one, and sharing these moments with her mate was precious to her.

Cirrusflight finished her training and Creamytail returned to Marshclan once again. But it was hardly a day later when several cats suddenly became ill. Diseased prey. With so many falling ill, including Juniperfern another of Daisyspring's littermates, it seemed this new-leaf wasn't going to be as peaceful as Poppysnap had hoped.
After Juniperfern succumbed to the illness as well, Starlingstar lead a group to investigate the source of the diseased prey, a strange new two-leg settlement in the middle of Cloudclan's territory.
Poppysnap hadn't gone, but Daisyspring had. Because of this, Poppysnap had been unable to relax in camp. She knew it was just an information-gathering mission, nothing should go wrong and Daisyspring wouldn't eat anything from that place... She had a whole patrol of cats with her if anything did happen.
But her nerves didn't settle until she caught sight of Daisyspring returning to camp and- oh did things look bad.
The mission had been a disaster. Poppysnap regretted horribly that she hadn't been there to help and... A strange animal belonging to the two-legs had greatly wounded Starlingstar. The tom had called for his clans attention one last time before he was gone.
Their former kittypet turned deputy was now a kittypet once again, but Peanut did her best to try and explain things to the clan. Halfbranch told the clan that they weren't to go near the new dwelling, that it had proved to be too dangerous.
Daisyspring had been so traumatized by the events but was thankfully unharmed. So many others were, and Thistleflame seemed furious, losing his mentor and his former apprentice being trapped and stolen from them by two-legs during the event. He left camp again shortly after the vigil for Starlingstar.

Gloomthorn's family and Thistleflame had all slipped out of camp without Halfstar's knowledge or permission, and when they returned with Gloomthorn the cats had been punished for their actions. It made perfect sense to Poppysnap, and she was glad her brother recognized that as well. But it didn't bode well for Cloudclan's future to have so many rebellious young warriors and apprentices who went behind their leader's back without even attempting to work with their clan first.

Lupinestorm was named as the clan's new deputy.
During a gathering, the clan discussed all the strange things happening between them. A flood that had taken Emberclan's camp, a tree that had crushed several in Hailclan, mysterious murders and rumors of ghosts in Marshclan, giant fish that snatched cats from the shores, and tales of cats of all sorts having strange visions...
It was a lot, and Poppysnap was skeptical, but at the same time... It couldn't all be a coincidence. There were too many, too many witnesses, and too many events to chalk it up to nothing. Regardless of what it was, something was happening to the clans and they were all struggling with it.
To see three of the four clans all having new leaders was concerning, to say the least.
It was decided during this gathering that Dropletshine and some cats from each clan would attempt to follow 'clues' given to them in visions and go on a quest. It seemed like a fools errand, but it was better than doing nothing. In the meantime, they would continue to work on the Crystal falls and the medicine cats would continue to try to reach Starclan again.

Otterbounce, Gorsewing, Windpaw, and Jaypaw were all chosen to go on the quest. It was strange seeing cats so young being selected, but Poppysnap trusted Halfstar's judgment. And besides, while the quest was surely a good attempt, their warriors were needed in camp too.
Thistleflame seemed quite upset to see his apprentice off, and Poppysnap wondered what that was like. They all hope for the cat's safe return though.

Sometime after the cats had been sent off, a terrible earthquake shook the territories. Many cats lost their lives or went missing in the chaos.
The disaster left its scars on the territories and left a feeling of cold dread in just about everyone. If this too was connected to the events happening- were they ever going to recover?

This feeling didn't leave despite her best efforts to continue on as always. And as new-leaf turned to green-leaf and still no word of the quest cats or Starclan, it really did feel that things would remain this way forever.

Missing [60 -68 moons] >

A brush fire started in the territory, it was hard to tell the extent of it. It ended rather quickly and they had to hope no one had been caught in it and hurt.
The ducks had flown away in fear, Daisyspring was worried for them and so she and Poppysnap followed after. One of the ducks had been burned, and while it flew as far as it could, it wouldn't survive on its own.
Poppysnap was reluctant, but after everything, if they could just have this one good thing than maybe... She agreed to her mate's request to stay and watch over the bird until it was healed. They were quite far from the territory now.
Each day Poppysnap felt guilty not being there for her clan, for choosing to stay out here and watch over the injured bird but... She wasn't going to leave her wife in this unfamiliar place alone, and she wasn't going to tell Daisyspring to abandon something she cared about. The clan would survive a moon without them.

Truthfully Poppysnap wasn't sure the duck would recover even with them there to protect it. She had no idea how bad the injuries were and she didn't have any experience with medicine. But the duck was getting better.
Just another week or so and they could probably start looking for the way back to camp again.

Poppysnap awoke one morning to find Daisyspring missing from their nest. Worry bubbled in her chest as she wondered where the calico could be. They took turns hunting and staying with the duck, but usually, they would tell each other when they were leaving...
Poppysnap started pacing their makeshift camp, she waited another minute before her ears folded back and she started to actively search, looking for any sign of where her mate might have gone.
She tried to stay close to the camp and the duck but- the longer Daisyspring was gone the more Poppysnap expanded her search area and worried.

As morning turned to afternoon, then to evening... Poppysnap's concern continued to grow. Had something happened? Daisyspring should have come back by now, she should have found her by now. Now quite far from their makeshift camp, Poppysnap continued to search fearing the worst.
A sense of relief hit when Poppysnap saw the silhouette of another cat standing in the dusk. The tortie called out, believing this to be Daisyspring, they hadn't seen another can in almost a full moon, surely this was her beloved mate. But the cat didn't respond and Poppysnap grew wary.
She reached out, and the cat turned towards her. Poppysnap tried instead asking the stranger for help- only to be caught off guard when claws suddenly swiped at her.
Though she was startled, Poppysnap quickly took to the defense. She fought back and still attempted to reason with the cat- why did they attack her? She hadn't come here looking for a fight, and as far as she knew, no cat scent markers had been placed anywhere near here.
Her claws slipped through and she fell onto the ground- her opponent's form flickered and they seemed to grin at her.
The rumors of ghostly attacks resonated in her mind, but there was no time to reconsider the possibility- the cat lunged at her.
The tortie's vast battle experience served her well as she ducked and weaved, but no matter how much strength she put behind her counter-attacks, they meant nothing if they couldn't hit.
Poppysnap couldn't keep up fighting forever- she had to find some way out of this.
As her opponent continued on relentlessly, Poppysnap focused on increasing the distance between them. Each time the enemy disappeared and showed up again she had to start all over again, but eventually, she had an opening- Poppysnap couldn't hesitate, she feigned another counter-attack and darted off into the forest.

Poppysnap was on high alert as she raced through the woods, navigating through long stretches of thick brush and flinching at the sounds of branches breaking.
Ducking down into cover, she struggled to catch her breath and remain silent as she watched for the other cat's pursuit.
She wouldn't be sleeping that night, staring out into the dark forest, watching for the soft glow as the stranger passed by, still searching for her.
This stranger's persistence and aggression was terrifying, and Poppysnap was oddly grateful Daisyspring wasn't here with her. She had to hope that her mate was somewhere far away, safe, maybe already returned to their little campsite and waiting for her.
She had to hold onto that hope, not daring to even consider Daisyspring having to face danger like this on her own.

When the night ended and the sun had risen high into the sky, Poppysnap emerged from her hiding place. Exhaustion tore through her, but she had to try and get her barrings again.
The molly had a few new cuts and bruises from the ordeal, her ear now torn at the edge and an open wound where the cat's claws had grazed her chest. Thankfully it was all minor, she hoped she could pass them off as nothing when she got back to the campsite.
Poppysnap walked carefully, even as tired as she was she did her best to cover her tracks. But as she tried to search for the way back, she wasn't having much luck. Had she really gone that far? She should be close now, right? Or was she really that off-course?
She felt dizzy with exhaustion and like she might just collapse, but she refused to stop and take a break. Not when she'd already been gone for so long.

The sun slowly set behind her. The tortie sniffed the air again and frowned, nothing was looking familiar- it was all... Maybe she did need to rest and try again with a clearer head- she had to get back.
There was a soft glow of something- fear shot through her as she heard the cat's voice. She'd been found.

As the cat lunged for her, Poppysnap forced her legs to move, to run. She was in no state for a rematch against this spirit. She pushed herself to move- to duck, dodge, leap over obstacles and try and shake her attacker again. She had already pushed herself so far- how much longer could she keep it up?
Her front paw caught on a root and twisted painfully- she fell to the ground.
The ghost lunged towards her- and was attacked from the side by a dark-grey spirit. A cat that she'd recognize anywhere.

Stunned disbelief didn't quite cover the feelings Poppysnap felt seeing him of all cats, come to her defense. She didn't forgive him- she didn't know if she ever would though- there was once a time she would have rather died than accept help from him. But now, she felt like she could just about cry.

Ravenfrost fought the other spirit, even with the surprise attack he'd done, it was a struggle. But in the end, the tom came out on top. That familiar face that had previously caused her fur to bristle with anger had turned his gaze toward her.
When the tom opened his mouth to speak, she didn't interrupt. She'd once refused to speak to him or hear from him but now, she let him speak, listening to every word. "I'll always regret what I've done to you and your family in life. I could never accept forgiveness- I don't expect it anyways." Poppysnap didn't reply, but she kept her eyes on the ghost.
"Look after yourself, your clan, and your family, alright? For your sake."
He was saying goodbye, leaving again. "Thank you-" Poppysnap meowed, strangely soft in response. She'd cut herself off short, not quite willing to call the tom 'dad' but...
When Poppysnap let her exhaustion carry her to sleep, she felt lighter than she had in a long time.
She'd been a young warrior back when he had died, and was now nearly 65 moons. That resentment she'd felt back then, had she really carried it for all this time? It felt like closing a chapter finally, and while her father was hardly a good cat, he was there tonight and though she couldn't forgive, she could let go.
And... A part of her hoped that Ravenfrost would someday find his way into Starclan.

Poppysnap woke up sometime later, alone, uncomfortable, and still out in the open. She made to sit up- and promptly let out a hiss. Moving her paw or putting any pressure on it was not happening. There were a couple of nasty-looking gashes where the roots has scrapped up her leg and if it wasn't broken, it was definitely sprained.
She managed to pull herself up and limped a couple of tail lengths. She made a list of things she needed to do now- get her wound wrapped, find prey, get some rest, and get back to Daisysrping. Finding a small brook, Poppysnap took a drink of water before dipping her wounded paw with another hiss as it stung. Still, it needed to be cleaned.
Poppysnap found she couldn't walk for more than a few minutes at a time. She needed to find a way to keep her paw still so it could recover properly and she could move around to do what she needed. But with no one around to aid her and no real medical knowledge, she seemed rather stuck.

Still, she did what she could. She was a proud senior warrior, she could learn to manage the pain and loss of mobility. Her days started to blur together as she hunted small pieces of prey, rested, and did her best to adapt to her current circumstances.
As she started being able to walk further distances, she would keep searching for the campsite where she'd last seen her mate.
One night when she'd followed a rather promising trail, she spotted a soft glow of a ghost. The molly fell into a crouch. She didn't know this cat, but given the clan's previous experiences with the undead and her own close call, she wasn't taking any chances. Poppysnap lunged, aiming for the neck and making a swift kill.
The ghost was killed, and it was one less thing for her to worry about in the future, although... it didn't feel exactly right, killing outside of defense like that. But out here, so far from any possible allies and help, what else could she have done?

Sometime later, when her paw is able to handle her weight again and seems to be improved, she finds the campsite. At first- she is overjoyed, so ready to see her mate again and never let her out of her sight again. But as she looks around the campsite, it is deserted. The scents are all stale, everything abandoned. Even the duck is gone now, and with how long Poppysnap has been lost, it's no wonder. She feels despair, a feeling of utter hopelessness threatening to consume her.
She stays at the campsite for one night, but no longer. Daisyspring isn't here and isn't likely to return.
She'll search elsewhere.

Time continues to pass. Poppysnap lives like a rogue- no clanmates at her side, no nest to return to at night. She hunts for herself and fights for herself. She's so lost and struggling to see any way back from this.

She sees a bird, an odd duck with a burn scar. The bird takes to the sky and starts to fly. Poppysnap's breath stops as she stares in awe, then she races after it, trying to follow the bird as it flew higher and higher. The duck had survived, a little piece of Daisysprng still living alongside her. Poppysnap's eyes watered, but she tried to keep going even past it. She couldn't lose sight of the duck now-

Poppysnap came to a sudden stop, familiar scents all around her. This was- she was home. Somehow, someway, she'd found herself back at the Cloudclan border.

warriorhood [ 68 - present moons ] >

Poppysnap was met by a patrol and brought back to camp. She'd mournfully informed them about how she and Daisyspring had been separated. Eight moons... She had been gone for eight entire moons. It almost didn't feel real.
She wanted to go out searching for her mate again but- if she hadn't found her after this long... she needed to remain in Cloudclan and relearn how to hunt and fight for others, and to rely on them in turn, to feel like she belonged someplace again and really come back home.
It's what Daisyspring would have wanted.
