Temp story: "Element" is the prince to a kingdom of horned people. The signature of royals is dark, almost black horns that reflect every color. As the horned people grow (from birth to about adulthood), they have a chance of being touched by an element. This can appear in many ways, such as different body parts, or may appear in more subtle ways, like high defense or fast growth. When element touched, the magic corresponding to that element gets a large boost and easier control. This can be the difference of no magic, to a great mage. The horned people are primarily magic users.
"Element" was touched by every element, all at once, an unprecedented occurrence. And, although he was not next in line to be king, many argued that he should be, given his natural raw power. "Element" disagreed; his brothers were more suited and well groomed into the position. So he fled, leaving his kingdom in the dust.
