All demons live as long as it takes for them to work off their debt so while some may be fine with living as a demon, they usually have enough time to gather up resentment or restlessness about it. Their typing correspond to the sin that most aligns with the way they had been living until death which has certain traits aligned with it, Contracteds take on the sin of their Contractors.

The debts themselves are paid off by getting humans to commit minor sins, dragging people down to their level essentially. This does honestly take forever though as trying to incite anything major can be a fast track to being pulled back to Hell. The point of working off the debts is to pay their way back into the reincarnation cycle, nobody really knows how the deal works. Younger demons tend to think it’s meant to just make more demons in the long run. But more longtime demons theorize that their use is to test humans on their virtues in place of any direct divine challenges as they don’t actually end up causing that many new demons in the end, more just passing around the same piles of debt to different people. Certain angels will just tell you time and experiences are a valuable thing.

Somehow, things were sorted pretty quickly. There wasn’t a whole lot of ill-will for anyone and everyone was thrown so off-kilter that they clung together for support and to figure out how things worked. Humans led the charge into taking stock, scouting around, gathering up as many people as they could, figuring out what was the same, etc. The big part of this they pushed for was documenting different species and what they were capable of, wanting transparency about what non-magical folk had to possibly worry about. Most species came forward on their own, wanting to keep things on even ground and peaceful, there was also some excitement about the kind of collaboration this information could inspire as there were many in the magical plane that had been in awe of what humans were capable of.

There was, however, hesitation from species that were more on the “monstrous” end of things. The first group in this category to come forward were vampires, there was some tension but quickly things were sorted out as how best to integrate them and they were quickly held up as an example of why it was safe for everyone to come forward. Currently, most of the world is unsettled, slowly being explored and mapped. There are plenty of cities and towns though, with plenty of interesting innovations. Things are peaceful and going great! (Mostly.) .

The species classification system is fairly fluid becuase of years of interbreeding. Individuals are usually classified based on what major traits they exhibit. There are also "Pure" types which are individuals with no interbreeding, they're extremely rare and usually are created rather than born.

Aspiring detective journalist Yuuto leaves home to move to a mysterious town named Fogboroughs. She hears of the town after a customer of her family's business, Lana, brought up that the smell of blood is becoming a more frequent occurrence. She comes back with Lana and ends up entrenched in the middle of it all. Months prior, a young changeling is sent away to Fogborough for zir uncontrollable behavior. Eclipse is unhappy with the decision and immediately sneaks out, meeting and befriending Ryley. The two bond and become close, happily causing problems. Ryley’s younger sister Allison takes notice of this and watches the two closely, eventually becoming wildly infatuated with Eclipse.

Yuuto, with Lana’s help, eventually narrows her focus to Eclipse and befriends Ryley to help enter the group. Unfortunately, Ryley develops a huge crush on her which also attracts Allison’s attention. Something she comes to realize is dangerous. Over time, Yuuto uncovers what the hell is going on and with unexpected help manages to put a stop to it.
