STORY

Dearest Elizabeth; Taken too soon, with no family to mourn her / May she find companionship with those who passed before her / RIP 1879-1895

  • Died in 1800s, age 16 (same time period as Hatty + Emily)
  • Orphan, sort of lived on her own
  • Started (at age 15) working at the same shop Horace (hatbox) worked at, as first a maid of sorts then later an apprentice
  • Became good friends with Horace, saw him as a father figure
  • Also got to know Emily pretty well, since she was a regular
  • Eventually, she was killed by an “unknown serial killer” (constance) for unknown reasons (likely as a warning for Horace, whom she suspected was having an affair with Emily + generally disliked). She was drowned but ended up barely holding on to life, so was beheaded as well. Her body was later found washed up on the riverbanks near where her attempted drowning took place.
  • Horace was distraught at this, since he had grown quite fond of her & almost saw her as his daughter
  • A small funeral was held by her former caretakers at the orphanage she was living at, and she was buried in the Gracey graveyard at Horace’s anonymous request
  • Her soul wandered the bayou & city outskirts for a while, in shock from her sudden demise and eventually she pretty much forgot her past; during this time several mortals later reported seeing a pale figure out in the forest, with some claiming it looked like a young girl
  • After several years, both Horace and Emily passed away as well, and their souls stayed in the attic of the soon abandoned Gracey Manor
  • Eliza’s spirit eventually ended up at Gracey Manor, though quite some time after Horace (now Hatbox) and Emily had moved in
  • Emily & Hatty didn’t recognize her at first, nor did she recognize them; both parties thought the other was vaguely familiar but couldn’t place why, but after some time they did remember

Trivia

  • She can't swim, and is pretty scared of water, particularly rivers/swamps

Dislikes: water/swimming, Constance, getting in trouble, having to brush her hair

When exposed to too much light or when experiencing intense negative emotions (fear, sadness, anger), Eliza's ghostly form decays; she becomes more skeletal, her "mortal" disguise withering into her true, dead form.

Eliza has no blood in her body; she cannot bleed (not even ectoplasm, like most ghosts) or blush. However, her tears are made of dark red ectoplasm; this is the only time she "bleeds".

Though it's usually not visible, Eliza posesses a glowing, beating heart similar to her mother's, which glows brighter and beats louder when she is scared or excited.
