A Quick Summary

1976581_3tr0F1L4g.png?1641115743

Zebbie is the mother and guardian of the heavily overgrown Forever and Everglades. She is a powerful Nature elemental who takes the form of a giant fox. Her plant-like body changes according to the seasons, as does her mood. She has nature magic and moderate healing powers. With a simple touch of her paws, she can grow entire patches of flowers and wrap everything in vines. Those in her presence will feel much more younger and energetic.

She has a loving and merciful heart, even willing to forgive those who have crossed her as long as they don't repeat it. She is passive and prefers to avoid potential conflict. Even in battles, she will take a pacifist option if possible. She believes that death is a necessary part of life and fully accepts it.

During the spring, she is active and spends most of her time replacing plants that were lost.

During the winter, she becomes dormant and may hibernate the entire season.

All inhabitants and visitors of her domain are considered her children unless otherwise stated. Most of her "children" call her "Mother" with the exception of her few druids. It is very ill-advised to hurt or attempt to hurt any of her children, unless one seeks to face the Mother's wrath.

"Hello, my dear child. You may call me 'Mother' if you'd like."

Design Notes

  • Zebbie has sectoral heterochromia! Her eyes have a tiny hint of purple at the top.
  • The small blue speckles of lichen on her body are bioluminescent. They glow in the dark!
  • During autumn, she has less flowers.
  • During winter, she has no flowers.

Trivia

  • Zebbie is 50% leafy greens, 50% magic, and 0% meat.
  • She was named by a young girl who always visited the forest where she lived years ago.
  • She does not bleed any form of blood if injured.
  • Her purple flowers don't produce natural pollen. Instead, they emit magical energy.
  • Because of this, Zebbie herself doesn't cause allergies. (Yay!)
  • ...but the flowers and plants that grow around her still do. (Aw.)

Appearance

1976576_yNb6rWoUBcUsRgC.png?1479244968

Zebbie is a Nature elemental, who takes on the form of a giant fox. She measures to around 6' at the shoulders and 9' if up to her ears are included. If necessary, she can change to the average size of a fox. Her eyes are a deep blue with a tiny bit of purple, and she has tall curled leaf-like ears that are jagged in appearance. She has soft green fur with a light grey underbelly, pale green toes, and speckles of varying shades of green. Her fur has a moss-like texture to it - mostly dry to the touch but damp during humid and wet weather. She has clusters of glowing light blue lichen over her nose, under her eyes, on the top of her head, and on her paws. The lichen does not emit enough light to illuminate an area but does look impressive in the dark. She has a very curly and vine-like mane extending down from the back of her head to over her neck and back; it hangs loosely over her body. Her tail is a singular strong branch-like vine with a bushy covering of short but plentiful leaves.

The small purple flowers that grow on Zebbie's mane and tail are an incidator of her health for all seasons except winter. At full strength, there are plenty of flowers; if weak, there are less flowers as they begin to wither away. After her flowers are gone, Zebbie begins to take on a sickly appearance, changing from a nice green to a sickly and dry yellow or black, like a dying plant.
During winter, her appearance and color is the only indicator of health, because she loses all her flowers in the cold season.

Because Zebbie is part plant, she stays around sources of water to remain hydrated at all times. It helps her heal faster should she be injured. Without water, she heals very slowly.

Apparel

Zebbie does not wear any accessories or clothing, unless you count all the random flowers and plant bits that get stuck to her fur sometimes.

Powers & Abilities

Zebbie has nature magic and moderate healing powers. She specializes in plants and rejuvenation.

She passively causes fields of flowers to bloom and plants to overgrow. Trails of new plant life appear in her wake, sprouting in her footsteps. Her presence also grants rejuvenation to others. Those who stay in her presence will find themselves feeling energized and younger.

Nature Magic
  • Zebbie can summon walls of roots and vines to block and trap her opponents.
  • These roots are heavily fortified and can withstand plenty of physical damage.
  • She can summon special flowers that spread a sleep-inducing pollen that also clouds enemy vision.
  • Just her presence alone causes any plants to overgrow faster than usual.
Healing Magic
  • Zebbie passively rejuvenates people in her presence and alleviates any feeling of illness.
  • She can heal minor to moderate wounds.
  • She can also extend lifespans for a little longer, but it is not a power to be abused.
  • There is only so much she can for mortals.
Shapeshifting
  • Zebbie can change sizes between a small, standard fox to her more common massive form.
Regeneration
  • Zebbie can regenerate by staying hydrated and gathering nutrients just like a plant.
Personality

1976589_mULK3deQXdT9QKM.png

Zebbie is the motherly and wise guardian of the Forever and Everglades and beloved by many. The inhabitants look up to her for her protection and guidance. She watches over everyone and addresses each and every one as her "child." With her powers, she keeps the monsters at bay and prevents them from entering and wreaking havoc upon the glade. She maintains a close relationship with all of her "children" and the death of any one would greatly affect her. Whenever a "child" dies, she has been known to retreat to her glade in silence to mourn for a few days. She is passive and will not attack unless provoked. If she does attack, it's generally done in self-defense or to protect the glade. Most of her magic spells are geared towards defense and restraint; she tries to stop the opponent instead of killing them. In more serious situations, as much as she hates it, she may inflict wounds if simply restaining a target with vines or putting them to sleep with some pollen doesn't work, but she'll be quick to heal them up as an apology later. She prefers not to use her powers to cause harm and does not plan to do so any time soon. If anyone crosses her, she is willing to forgive them as long as they are willing to change as well.

Despite having the ability to extend lifespans, she rarely uses it, because she believes that its not natural to extend something beyond its given time. It is only used on very special requests (like a final request for the dying to stay alive long enough to say goodbye to their loved ones) and will only be granted to her "children." Strangers from beyond the glade are not given this treatment. She believes that death is a beautiful and necessary thing - that people should not fear it, for it is a part of life. After all, there is no life without death.

During the spring, she spends a lot of time regrowing new patches of plants to replace the ones that are gone.

During the winter, she grows inactive and spends most of her time sleeping. She can still be awakened in emergency cases but might not appreciate it very much.

She loves nature (if it wasn't obvious enough) and all plant life, especially flowers. The blue and purple ones are her favorites. She has a soft spot for children and the elderly and always tries to keep a closer eye on them. Oddly enough, she does in fact like insects and bugs, as long as they aren't harmful to her. She refuses to kill spiders if their only crime happens to be looking scary; she feels that's not an adequate reason to murder them. Butterflies and moths are among her favorite insects. Spring is her favorite season, because it's also her main working season. Of course, her favorite drink is just water. Only water and nothing else.

She has grown a fear towards axes, pruning shears, and lawnmowers, due to being part plant and all. While a little trim here and there doesn't actually hurt her, she doesn't take lightly to sudden and unwanted haircuts. It's a good thing that all three of those tools don't exist in the glade, and she won't take lightly to strangers bringing them in. She might be a walking salad, but she doesn't enjoy being chewed or nibbled on by other creatures, and she doesn't like it when people pluck out her fur and leaves or tug on them.

Residence

Zebbie rules over the Forever and Everglades, a beautifully overgrown glade that has remained mostly undisturbed for many years. As long as she remains present, the glade continues to thrive under even the harshest of conditions. Every corner is filled with foliage and magical arrangements of exotic and common flowers alike. Even during the winter, the glade is always bursting at the seams with bright and colorful plant and animal life.

The entire domain suffers from overgrowth due to her influence to the point where it overcrowds, but Vulcan takes care of that for her by cleaning up older and dead plants.

Her favorite places are the small lake and stream that runs through the glade. She can be found sitting next to it for most of the day, watching the fish swim by.

Backstory

1976601_hexKhotXDOUEWly.png

When Zebbie was a very young and small elemental, the Forever and Everglades that she called home was just a simple forest. The many gods still reigned over the land, and the council's towers overseeing the different regions of the continent. She can still recall how different the world seemed before - how vibrant it was with the colors of magic that would often trace the skies. At the time, like many elementals, Zebbie didn't have a name and was only created to keep the balance.

A young girl wandered into Zebbie's forest one day to pick flowers and accidentally discovered where the elemental was hiding. This was the first time Zebbie ever encountered a non-magic mortal. Before then, her only friends were the fairies and insects of the nearby fields. Zebbie and the young girl became friends, and the girl would often visit Zebbie in the forest.

The young girl would start calling her "Zebbie," and Zebbie has taken that as her name since. It was from the girl that Zebbie eventually learned how to read, as she would often bring books from school to share, and the girl would share stories about the world outside of the forest. As Zebbie's powers grew, so did the forest, too. They would have fun discovering new plants that sprung up every season.

Many years passed, Zebbie and the girl continued to be friends, unknown to the nearby town. The girl, however, would continue to grow older, while Zebbie remained "young." Being an elemental, Zebbie would only grow in size and power, but she would never die of old age. It was through her old friend, years down the road, that Zebbie would also experience loss for the first time, when the lady stopped visiting one day.

...but after that tragic loss, Zebbie was soon visited by a young man - the son of her old friend. He began to visit in his mother's stead, having learned about Zebbie through stories he'd heard as a child. It became family tradition afterwards for the descendants of that family to visit Zebbie and bring her gifts from the outside world.

A generation before the current day, the recent descendants chose to leave their homes in town and move into the now overgrown Forever and Everglades. They committed to becoming her followers in the form of druids to help protect the forest from corruption.

"What did you...*sighs*"

Vulcan doesn't visit the glade often, but, when he does, Zebbie's never too pleased with any new chaos he happens to spur with his love for flames. Despite all the arguing, she does care about his well-being and treats him like a younger brother.

Zebbie tends to butt heads with him over the silliest things and even gets a little snarky when he's around. She worries about him when he's away for too long and would be incredibly sad if he stopped visiting one day.

A lot of people in the glade think they're related - they're definitely not. Elementals don't have relatives.

"My child - so sweet and kind. If only I could grant you your sight back..."

Zebbie's beloved daughter. Zebbie trusts the important tasks to Nyllia and places her in charge when she leaves to hibernate for the winter. They share a close mother-and-daughter relationship.

Zebbie first met Nyllia when she stumbled upon the young lady in her glade, lost, afraid, and confused. She took Nyllia in and cared for her, until the Human was able to stand on her own two feet again.

Upon learning that Nyllia was slowly going blind, she began to teach Nyllia how to guide herself around with the use of the surrounding plantlife and magic.

After a few years, Nyllia became the druid for the Forever and Everglades and chose to remain there with Zebbie.

"Do not wander too far, child."

Beepop is one of the fairies who runs small errands around the glade for Zebbie. Zebbie loves little Beepop with all her heart. She always keeps the flower fields replenished with new varieties of flora just for him to make his flower crowns out of. She has a small tree covered in all the preserved flower crowns that he's made for her over the past few years.
