Yamato Ito was a japanese man who grew up during the Sengoku Period, a time of constant conflict. His bloodline has been handed down the title and role of Samurais for generations towards different groups and empires that have been lost to history. Trained at birth, swept in the stories told by his father and grandfather, he was soon enlisted and armored up for his first time. Only to be awaken in a large area of mud during a rainstorm, his armor damaged and wound decorated his body, as he emerged from a pile of other bodies who have fallen in combat. His first battle was a failure, his mind shattered as he drag his body to a safer area, clutching his katana as he goes into the forest.

The sun and moon danced across the sky for days, with the days turning into weeks, and Yamato's will growing weaker and his will feeling more shattered with every waking moment. When he arrives home, he is greeted with a several dead soldiers, and an abandoned home much to his horror. He traveled more and more, his stomach shrinking with starvation, and his armor falling apart from being stuck to his skin. His salvation came when he went over to a river, as he began drinking the water from the river like a man who struck gold, before passing out. He woke up in the arms of a siren, holding him and comforting him while his body feels weak. Her name lost on him through time but she was his salvation, feeding him and making sure he could stand with confidence on two feet again. Time went by and the siren was dying of an illness, her last gift was a wish for anything, and he wish to be like her, one of the people of the sea.

With a sip of water, his legs formed into a koi fish tail as he flopped on the ground a bit. The siren gave him a kiss before passing, as he dragged himself into the river and began trying to get use to his tail and get use to fishing for his meals. He soon began heading out into the ocean, and then arrives not too far from Japan's shores. He would have left further, but he ended up staying close and building a home similar to the one he use to live in.

As time moves on, he witnessed the world changing through the flow of the ocean and through the ships coming to and from. Around the 1970s, a group of men found him while fishing, as he was also gathering food for eating. After long conversations that ended up befriending the crew, he was taken to the Tokyo to see how much the world has changed since his centries of deep sea living. There was both rejoicing over the feeling of peace and progress his country has made, but also a shock of how much time has exactly past since his change. He did not emerge again until 2018, his friend of the past was now in charged of the most popular fish market, Tsukiji Fish Market. He offered Yamato a job, to be an "enforcer" he called it, someone who shouted to keep people in line as they pick their fish and to enforce the rules to everyone. He agreed and ended up becoming a popular person over the years after some practice. By 2022, he agreed to become a part of the reformed The Order, as an ambassador to the merfolk and the humans of Japan, shaken up from the conflict that happened not too recently.

By the time the 2050s came around, Yamato was known almost as a mascot of the Tsukiji Market, while also being someone to have helped mend the bridges between the merfolk and humans which was rocky thanks to centries of conflict. His life has become more busy, and he realizes that he maybe living much, much longer than he initializes, but he spends time slowly and patiently creating art and poetry in his sparetime, as he listens to the sounds of the currents.

TL;DR - He was a former samurai who was left for dead until he was found by a mermaid. He took care of him and changed him into a merman as he wishes, as he went into the ocean to live. In 2018, he became an enforcer at the Tsukiji Fish Market, then an Amasador for the Japanese Merpeople in 2022.
