Name: The Concept of Zero (Zero) Alias: Jay Johnson Gender: Agender Age: Ageless (appears somewhere around 14 or 15)

Background:

The Concept of Zero was once completely omnipotent in the 10th dimension with the rest of the Concepts. The main difference between Zero and the other Concepts is that Zero could never sponsor a Magician. In part it was because they were already powerful through the glitches that any Magician made. They didn’t need to sponsor Ascended Magicians. And also in part, it’s generally not a good idea to knowingly sponsor someone to be a glitch.

However, due to Zero’s nature of existing, they glitched into the 9th dimension with Ascended Magicians. When exactly this happened exactly is a mystery, even to Zero, who has a sketchy understanding of time anyway, not being used to an existence that recognizes it. And made even sketchier when you realize time isn’t really a one way ticket.

While they weren’t a Magician themselves, they had the scope of understanding of one more or less. What they knew of about the 10th dimension was limited, as was what they knew from being there. It was like there was a block on their memory when they tried to remember anything from the 10th dimension, and getting back turned out to be impossible for them as well.

Now that they are stuck, they do their best to clean up Ascended Magicians’ messes glitches without glitching out themselves. They actively are taking out their own sources of power in an attempt to keep balance. This often ends up backfiring on them whether in the form of glitches or a form of weakness.

They have an interest in The Grande Library, and Uai in particular. While they rarely visit the Library for fear of screwing up worlds that may not have large scale glitches in them yet. They do come by occasionally when they want to familiarize themselves with some sort of world or aspect. Or when they want to visit Uai or Alyce. Mainly Uai. Uai caught their interest because he’s a sponsored glitch. A glitch that’s allowed to exist. Sort of. Ish. And that in itself is important to Zero.

Personality:

Zero is a little shit. They’re sassy and love to tease others mercilessly. They do honestly think themselves better than normal people. They often belittle other people’s feelings or use people as playthings to entertain themself with.

They’re also stubborn and impatient. Once they put their mind to something, they won’t stop...Even if they really should give up. At the same time, if they don’t get the results they want quick enough, they’re likely to get frustrated and throw a temper tantrum. Which in Zero’s case often means a lot of accidental glitches and occasional on purpose glitches, so….Whoops?

Lastly, they see themselves as different or less than the other concepts. They aren’t allowed to sponsor Ascended Magicians, and they can’t get to the 10th dimension. This leaves them with a need to constantly prove themselves as capable and better than others around them. It also leaves them feeling isolated and lonely. Which of course, they remedy by tormenting others! Because that’s how you make friends.

Powers/Abilities:

Difficult to Kill:

Can you destroy nothingness? Can you really believe that you can destroy nothing? You can’t. Even if you fill up an entire space there will still be nothing somewhere else. And because of that, to anyone’s knowledge, Zero can’t truly die. They can be forced out of a specific time and space. But that’s about it.

Moving Through Time and Space: Zero can move throughout all of time and space! They can go anywhere!....Except the 10th dimension where they belong. If you were to see Zero do this, they would look almost like a computer glitch before disappearing.

Creating/Destroying Things: They know how to will things into existence, much like a Magician, but they need to be in a time and place that already has an understanding of said thing in it. Take for example a chair. Zero can create any kind of chair out of nothing in this world. But if they were to go to a world where no one sits and try to create a chair, they’d probably end up with a glitch on their hands. This is because zero is the sum of all things, both positive and negative. You can’t take away an a lack of something that doesn’t exist at all in either a positive or negative form.

They can also destroy things at will, and occasionally just through glitching on accident. They prefer not to do so in a way that is irreversible if at all possible. They way they do it is the same way they create something.

Creating Glitches: Zero can create monster of the day type glitches in a world either on accident or on purpose. It’s rare that Zero will get angry enough to do so on purpose, and if they do so on accident, they tend to try and destroy the glitches when they realize they’re there.

Aikido: A type of martial arts with the goal of defending oneself while also protecting the attacker from getting hurt. They mainly use it when they’ve pissed someone off enough to get into a fight, but don’t actually want to hurt them.

Swordplay: How much of Zero’s swordplay is magic bullshit, and how much is actual knowledge? The world may never know.
