Ignis | The Devourer, the Chained God

Ignis is the god of Fire, wrath, and destruction. It is said that Ignis once ravaged the land, rampant and unbridled and it was not until the other gods subdued and shackled him that life as it is known in the world could not exist.

Ignis has no real corporeal form unlike the other gods, and as such was very difficult for any one of them alone to contain. The Creation of The River Guardian can be directly attributed to Ignis, the Guardian being the final key to sealing Ignis's power. Now bound, Ignis appears as a loose, roughly genie (human torso with hulking arms, and a wispy lower half) shaped mass of smoke with three binding rings--ornate golden cuffs meant to fit around a neck and two wrists. The three cuffs are all tied to one another with chain. It is said when the other gods bound Ignis, he was driven deep into the bowels of the world. On occasion his power still bubbles up in places, causing steam vents, lava flows, and volcanoes.

Followers of Ignis live in fear of his awe, and are usually centralized around the aforementioned geological formations. His houses of worship are mostly focused on appeasing the god with offerings and sacrifices, in the hopes that they might stave off an eruption or other natural disaster. Those who are truly devout are said to be able to walk on hot coals without burning themselves, as well as other impressive feats of fire resistance.

One of the largest human cities on the continent rests near a large volcano, and is unsurprisingly home to one of the largest groups of devout Ignis followers. In recent generations, humans have also begun to add the forge, metalworking, and industry to his domain.

Image Notes
  • This one is pretty amorphous... Maybe do last? Definitely want it to incorporate smoke or fire as well as the three binding cuffs and golden chains. Could have a Brazier instead of any real physical representation like the others.
  • Perhaps a more modern, human interpretation including forge tools?
