Minnie Mono

Minnie's been through a lot of fucking shit.

She may not look at it, with the impassive expression that she'll usually mask on 24/7, but she has lived through hell a thousand times over. When she was born, Minnie had been kidnapped from the orphanage she was staying at by an illegal slave organization who wanted to make a profit out of her and the other infants they had taken with them.

She was sold away to a grouchy and trashy Nunuke man for $50 because she was worth that little. She seemed like a frail child and all of the bidders preferred for more healthier babies.

Her duty was to serve as one of his many maids, so she was strictly raised by her mentors to just do her fucking job and not ask any questions. If she didn't clean hard enough or do any of your tasks right, you were sent to solitary confinement and starved for a few days straight.

Minnie was a slave and she had to do what she was told.

Obedience was an absolute must.

One day, however, she noticed that the Nunuke man who had originally bought her in the first place was getting oddly... physical with his stepson. He had recently married his third wife and she just happened to already have a teenage boy named Nani.

Minnie noticed that he was getting all up on Nani's personal space and would sometimes try to touch him in places that weren't socially appropriate. At first, since she was raised to not ask any questions, she tried to ignore whatever was happening between him and Nani. It's not like the mother ever noticed and it wasn't her problem anyway.

(The mother didn't seem like she even cared either.)

However, as she slowly learned about Nani more as a person, since she was often assigned to look after him since he needed a lot of care due to his severe schizophrenia, Minnie couldn't help but feel this intense feeling of discomfort. She didn't usually feel something this intensely, she was often monotone and apathetic in nature.

But Nani was already suffering mentally as it was. He needed medication to cope with all of the things he would see and hear - and his stepfather's sexual harassment made Minnie's blood boil for reasons even she didn't understand.

One day, she quite the man trying to make a dangerous move on Nani. Without even thinking, Minnie grabbed a glass vase nearby before smashing it into the back of his head.

He collapsed just like that.

Minnie didn't know what the fuck to do after that.

She hadn't planned on injuring her employer, but she knew that she wouldn't be wanted back again if he were to come back to consciousness. Before she could collect her thoughts, however, Nani grabbed her by the arm and just ran.

They fled away from the mansion in the middle of the night, with no particular destination in mind. Nani had grabbed a satchel with some money and essentials as they made an escape, so that they'd at least be able to rent an apartment for a month, but other than that, there was nothing else that they could prepare for.

Minnie didn't expect any of this.

She hadn't expected to live a life outside of being a servant. Being able to live in the world beyond that type of life style felt surreal.

At first, she didn't really react all that strongly to this new change. If anything, this was a bit of a blessing, since she was able to get a taste of freedom for the first time in her life. However, over time, she grew to appreciate being able to live alongside Nani. Even if he did struggle a lot and they did have to take some loans out to help provide for themselves financially, Minnie was able to pay most of that off once she actually managed to get a job as a health care aid. One of the maids that she used to work alongside recognized her and - since they used to be on nice enough speaking terms - decided to hook her up with the job, even if she didn't have the medical credentials for the occupation at the time.

Now Minnie currently lives with the patient she has to take care of (Minh) and still looks after Nani to this day. She's actually grateful that Nani was a bit reckless that night, even if she had no idea what was happening at the time. She had been so unsure of her future, but now she's in a more secure place and just wants to protect the person who helped bring more light to her life.
