Profile

Valarie is my DND 3.5 character in a currently ongoing campaign. She is an Obsidian Kobold with psychic powers. She's snarky and ill-tempered, but has a soft spot for her team. Also been described as a "stone cold bitch".

Original Concept:

History.

Valarie was born to the Chief of the Felsic Talus Clan in a Kobold town situated far beneath the world, next to a pool of lava that their progenitor, Tektase Vitreous. This civilization appeared deep below the Oak Mountains shortly after the Dragon-Aberration-Drow War. Their mother had once been an Amethyst dragon, but turned to Obsidian after the bitterness of losing the Crystal Egg to the Drow.

At a young age, Valarie was recognized to have special powers. Psionic powers are rare and highly respected among her people. They had not had a psychic for generations. The good news was relayed to Vitreous, who then took Valarie under her wing. She taught Valarie everything she could ever need in her life: tactics, languages, leadership. Valarie learned how to lead the Kobolds and how to make allies.

Early into her training, Valarie was put in charge of the army. Threats lurked everywhere in the cavern, especially from the neighboring Illithid and Myconimorphs. Valarie tested her wits in battle against the wily Illithid, and proved her brute force and traps with the Myconimorphs.

In the beginning, Valarie failed many times. She made the calls that Kobolds died for, suffered for. She did not give up, she only tried harder. She became too cautious, after her recklessness, and paid for it again. Eventually, she found a balance for ambition and safety.

Now, after having proved herself and ruling the clan for many years, Tektase has asked Valarie to seek out Whitecliff and prevent the Beasts from acting. She has 10 years to solve the problem, and any others she sees fit. This is her first time on her own, and Valarie has more than ever to prove.

Rivals.

Her main rival is with Methil, an Ullitherid in service to Zorvak'mur- an Elder Brain from Namarupa, the only remaining one in the cavern, and her mother's rival. Methil is the slightly less competent Illitherid and the only one of his kind left, because more suitable rival Gralt died in the siege on Maginot fifty years ago.

*Anat'ta was an extremely large destroyed city*

Valarie has some history with them. She does not wish to out-and-out kill Methil, simply to put him in his place. If he died, there would be noone to properly challenge Valarie's own mind. There would be no more battle of wits. It would be a detriment to everyone.

Though if, somehow, she could crush him on the battlefield or lord some magic item over his head, she would do so in a heartbeat.

In recent times, the Illithid have tried to capture and enslave kobolds to bolster their own ranks. Valarie has won several major victories over them, including one where she destroyed a spawning pool full of tadpoles.

Valarie knows well the history of the Drow and Dragons. She holds in her heart a dislike of drow. She herself has not encountered many herself, but trusts her mother's words.

She will not trust the Hadrony or Atraco families.

The Hadrony family holds the chasm alone in Maginot. Her mother despises them for trying to prevent travel to either side of the chasm. Opening the path would make her happy.

Atraco family is one that says they are farmers, but their true commodity is not corn, it's information. These are spies. Valarie may find use in their knowledge, but does not care to be under their scrutiny.

Valarie's campaign story concluded 11/22/2020.

Over the course of her journey, her interactions with Lichen Buddy influenced her to become more patient. The group she worked with gave her new perspectives, and slowly she began following their lead. She learned from them.

After defeating the King Oberon in the Faewilds, she decided to take a leap of faith, and give up her psionics in favor of Truespeech. She studied under Enigma, who at first meeting, she felt opposed to, but warmed up to him after the event in the Faewild, and even more over time. She even developed a fondness for him. During her life, she continued to act on behalf of the Truespeakers, to do their work. After taking care of the last two major players, she was entrusted to help lead the world into a magic-less age.

Noah had surprised Valarie by offering to turn her into a dragon. She surprised herself even more by declining. Once he had gone to the north, she regretted her choice, but she had a second chance to speak to him when she was in the north. She got into a deep conversation with him, and talked about peace, and how people change. She told him that his words had swayed her, and changed the way she looked at life. He seemed pleased with himself. She explained the goals of her new organization, about bringing some peace, and he seemed to approve. Valarie hoped to continue their relationship, but that was the last time she ever saw Noah.

Valarie continued to visit Monster even after their terrible date. Valarie already knew that he wasn't right for her, and somewhere in the back of her head, knew that he was going to lose his power - the thing that made him Monster in the first place. The guilt and sadness ate away at her. In an attempt to help, she warned him about the change and encouraged him to go see the Orphan, but Monster wasn't ready. He held on to the bitter end, not totally believing what she had told him. The two kept in contact a while longer, but the demands of Truespeaking and their vastly differing ideals kept them apart. After giving up Psionics, Valarie no longer held Monster in high regard, and knew from their date that he was not interested in thinking, the thing that she relished more than anything else.

Luci called in his favor with Valarie for killing the rats. Knowing she was capable, he asked her to retrieve an artifact for him. It was not a difficult task, since now she was one of them, but it was still taking time. She laughed at the trivial endeavor, but completed it anyway. In the end, she was happier knowing she committed to him rather than to Ulam the sphinx. Valarie often came to talk to him and vent, possibly talk about Enigma, and Luci engaged with her occasionally with some jokes. Since the party was no longer his problem, he was able to open up a little more.

Enigma erased Valarie's psionics. Quintessence form remained, though stunted forever. Valarie mourned the loss, but learning true-speaking came easily to her. She stayed up day and night, memorizing the tiniest details. She worked with fervor that shocked other truespeakers. Enigma offered her special guidance during her studies, and Valarie enjoyed his teachings. She found herself trying to steal bits and pieces of extra time away with him. He was incredibly busy, but he entertained her now and then for a chat. He was amused by her antics and the lengths she would go to to keep his attention. After spending some time together, Valarie finally worked up the courage to ask him on a date, and this one went much better than the one with Monster. The conversation was easy and flowed well.

During the relationship, Valarie discovered a lot about herself. She could be more loving than she ever expected. She was an attentive and helpful partner. She would anticipate his needs, and surprise him by already having done a task before he even asked her to.

After a long and successful courtship, and before the final battles with the TrueBelivers and King of Nis, Valarie decided to take Enigma somewhere special. She went to Grum at The Blood Sword and told him what was going to happen. Grum seemed delighted and began the preparations. Over a delicious, romantic dinner, Valarie offered the Lovers card to Enigma. "If I had had that card, I would have offered the same to you," he smiled. The tavern toasted to their engagement. The two were bound, and it unlocked unexpected things for each other.

In the final fight, Valarie used Enigma's powers via the Lovers card to help her overcome the odds and win. She continued to serve even after this battle was done, and enjoyed the lack of urgency. She never felt directionless with Enigma's aims.

The sword Intet was retrieved from the North, and Valarie held onto it for a long time. She could bring him back, but she already had once. The experience of becoming a sword couldn't be pleasant either. She decided to wait on bringing him back, if she even ever would. In the mean time, she would try to figure out a way to return him to dragon form, but help him calm down, and convince him to follow her lead, rather than what she did the first time - which was foolishly worship him for his dragon-ness.

Upon finding Maria with the Temperence card (locked away and with dragon dead sword), Valarie quickly found herself able to forgive Maria. Valarie no longer agreed with genocide, but understood the reasons. Only forgiveness could grant Maria peace and freedom, and Valarie helped Maria start the healing process. Once she was feeling better, the two also had a long conversation with her about dragons. In their time, dragon's had become so overwhelmingly powerful and threw their weight around constantly. Valarie seemed to understand.

After learning more about what happened in Eglinton, Valarie realized her forgiveness was given well, but her understanding was not. The Force dragon was not driven by higher, nobler motives, but instead by greed. This made more sense. He had wanted to be one of the last of the ultra-powerful beings so he would stay in power, never to have it challenged by other dragons. Valarie knew that her old self probably would have done the same if she was in his position. In the end, her opinion changed again. Maybe some dragons could be worth saving, but the old ones weren't fit anymore.

The Ruby and Obisidian dragon resided in the labyrinth. Valarie feared his power, but now that she had dealt with so many powerful beings, had had the chance to become a dragon, and even had close contact with other dragons, she no longer felt out of her depth when approaching him. She treated him like any other powerful creature, and they ended up getting along.

Valarie often visited the Dracholich and Kobolds. Their situation was so depressing. Valarie spoke to the Dracholic often, trying to convince him to let her in to see her old corpse. Valarie had mixed feelings about bringing back dragons, and the discussion with the Dracholich only amplified those internal conflicts. Valarie explained her thoughts to him, that there were so few ancient dragons left, there would not be a way to repopulate without more dragons, and thought it might be possible to select creatures to become those things, but it was a long shot. They could not be allowed to be loose cannon warlords, instead should be ancient teachers, scholars, and protectors. The protector role fit to the Dracolich well, since he had defended the Plague Mountains for a long time.

Tiir and Valarie had had a rocky friendship during their adventuring times, but she felt more positively towards him after he finally settled down as Envoy. They talked from time to time, as Valarie needed to speak to a Fae sometimes, or sought his perspective. The embargo between the planes meant she didn't go there often, but she enjoyed seeing him back in the material plane now and then.

Zahzong lived for many more years, and Valarie delighted in seeing him and regaling him about her missions and reminiscing about the past. She felt very lucky to see him each and every time. She watched him grow old, watched as his muzzle turned grey and his eye sight start to go. He had lived long enough to see his children and friends become successes. Valarie had mixed feelings. She was sad to see him go, but also figured not everyone was fit to live for eternity. She spent a day with him a week before his passing, and came to his funeral afterward. There were no tears, only her paying respects. Many powerful creatures visited his gravesite. He had made so many friends through all the years. Primordial Dwarves (though no longer primordial), the Plague Mountain kobolds, Aunti Whispers, LaShey, Enigma, the last members of the Queens- all these and more were there to say a last farewell.

Squeak was also there. Valarie respected what the man had become. She continued to fund his education, but he had already become a run-away success. His help was invaluable when they fought the King of Nis, and eventually he moved to the Faewild to learn from LaShey.

Klaus was the keeper of Valarie's Various Valuables for many years. Valarie poured money into the operation, constructing additional rooms and giving ever more product to him. Her influence in the Truespeaker school meant that the young gem-carvers were eager to get an internship at her company. She employed some of these fledglings, which was certainly a challenge at first. After so long, Valarie finally decided it was time to leave the business (specifically after a strange late-night break-in and later the unexplained and certainly unrelated closing of Doug's Rental Agency.). Valarie gave the place over to Klaus. Klaus's Various Valuables continued running long after that under the strange man's steady hand.

Valarie was an arbiter between different viewpoints. Her lives taught her that change in people was possible, and she knew what it took to get them there. She also taught classes in the schools, history, gemcutting, truespeaking... All kinds of things. She was renowned for her intellect. She felt fulfilled by passing on her knowledge. But this wasn't quite the end for her.

Years after achieving peace, and in the twilight years of her life, Valarie sought to create a library of her own. She moved away from Isarn and began building - in a special place as remembrance to Buddy. She remembered the homeland he talked about, and settled just above his family's ancient residence. She created a new home for herself, the kobolds, the dracholich, and Intet (she gave him one last chance to live, even though she considered she may have to end his life one day if he got out of hand). She dedicated special places for each group, and then eventually used the powers of truespeech to turn herself into a true dragon. Her new home became known as The Last Dragonhome. Occasionally, remaining dragons would show up there and enjoy the company of their own kind.

Around the library, there grew a city. People who were interested in learning, and often those specifically interested in learning about the past. It was even nice enough to attract a Gilligan's Glorious Goods.

Valarie continued visiting other places, donning a human or kobold form when needed, but always being able to return home. She got to see amazing things and meet amazing people all the time. Her work left her deeply satisfied and happy for the rest of her long life.

Notes for artists

Her scales are meant to be shiny, like real Obsidian or Crystal!

You also can draw her in a variation of her outfit, if you want, so long as the red, blue, and gold colors are still there.

NSFW AU.

Val is in a monogamous relationship with Vrill, the ulitharid. She is the submissive in their D/s relationship.

As a submissive, she enjoys Bondage, Biting, Collaring+Leashing, Caning, Knife Play, Fire Play, Flogging, Foot Worship, Humiliation (usually public nudity), Impact Play, CNC Rape Fantasy (Rarely), Psychological/Magical games, some Sensation Play, and Whipping. Primal play is also an interest, though this is also an intellectual persuit.

Outside of their relationship, she enjoys the role of Sadist. This usually just involves causing pain.

She is comfortable with blood/gore (blood from themselves, and gore from other ... slaves, i guess). She has killed (a lot) and so has Vrill (mind flayer... obviously gets his food from inside skulls...) It is something that does not phase her.

She rarely engages in sexual acts, since they do not interest her. She prefers scenarios with high protocol. Although she was wary at the beginning of her relationship, and would sometimes bite back at his orders (especially if she found them boring or useless), she now relishes in being a servant. It's basically irresistible to her, and she easily goes into subspace this way.
