About
Fae is an old design of mine from 2019, where she was originally intended to be an adoptable for sale. She never sold and sat in a sale folder until 2021, when I decided to touch up her design a bit and use her myself! My change of heart came from wanting a good partner design for my other character, Brianna Bookmark. I felt this design paired really well aesthetically with Brie's, and so... Faery Ring was born!
She's what I call a wild pony, a concept of ponies who live outside of the civilized areas of Equestria and are unfamiliar with how cities/towns operate. In other words, the same way ponies are unfamiliar with true nature and prefer to manipulate environments themselves, wild ponies are the exact opposite. The idea of controlling the weather or seasons is strange to Fae, and she's lived in the woods all her life.
Design
Description
Faery is a MLP:FiM fan character, so I typically prefer her portrayed in styles similar to that. However, I'm open to seeing her interpreted in other ways too! She's taller and leaner than most mares, and certainly pretty strong. Despite that, she hangs her head low often and comes off as unassuming. She's sweet, gentle, and quiet. She loves nature and is often interacting with the wildflowers at her hooves or a passing-by bee.
Notes
- Hair is typically pretty unkempt, and may have twigs or leaves
- Forages often and may have a basket or saddlebags for carrying
- Her coat is slightly thicker and fluffier than an average pony's
- Not very expressive, has subtle expressions

Personality
Traits
- Quiet: What others notice immediately about her is how quiet she is. She often won't speak until spoken to, and tends to speak in a low mutter. Despite this, she isn't shy; she simply prefers to listen in on conversations more than participate in them. Living so closely to wildlife has made her understand non-verbal cues much better than verbal ones.
- Practical: She's very resistant to impulsivity or materialism. She only wants what she needs & that's it! She isn't resentful of others for these things, but it's simply her own way of life. She genuinely believes that nature provides everything she could want already.
- Strong-Willed: While Fae is kind, there's not much you can do to change her mind on things. She bases her opinions on first-hoof experiences and she won't "take your word for it" on anything. Luckily, she's not argumentative and you won't see a bad side of her, but she's just stubborn.
- Crafty: As one could expect of a wild pony, she's extremely resourceful and quick-witted when it comes to natural solutions. She's definitely a problem-solver and nothing motivates her more than something that needs to be fixed! Her girlfriend Brie would sooner pay bits to get something resolved, but Fae is much more resilient in that aspect.
- Adventurous: Sure, she may avoid civilization with anxiety... but she's ridiculously fearless in her own territory, the woods. Nothing can perturb her. You'll find her climbing trees to relocate a beehive or gently shooing a spider off a flower she wants. She doesn't understand why it would scare other ponies!
- Friend of Nature: Year after year, many local wildlife recognize and trust Fae. She's never caused harm to the flora & fauna as much as she can help it, and she often goes out of her way to aid life around her. This is a great passion for her, and she can spend hours studying the nature around her.

Summary
Present
Faery Ring lives in Whitetail Woods with her girlfriend, Brie. Here, she acts largely as the keeper of the home, since Brie is often out on long travels in search of books & scrolls she hasn't yet collected. Despite that role, Fae spends much of her time outdoors. She aids local wildlife where she can, enjoys sunbathing, and just being alone. Not to say she doesn't appreciate time with her girlfriend. They often like to do crafts together, such as scrapbooking. She forages often and the vast majority of her diet and possessions are made up entirely of natural resources, meaning there's not many days she can afford to do nothing.
Past
She was born to a family of wild ponies, and thus her life is nothing new to her. In her eyes, living this way is tradition! She's never left the woods and doesn't particularly want to. Despite her only company being her family growing up, they weren't tight-knit because they believed in independence more than anything else. This is why, as an adult, Faery never sees or visits family. She knows they're all doing okay, finding their own lives in a place where nature supports them. Her talent for wild flora - identifying & cultivating - is no surprise considering her roots. She never received any form of official or recognized education.
Future
Fae is not one to worry or think about the future. She simply exists to live, and lives to exist. It is a core philosophy. But, if you wanted me to guess, I think little change is in her future. She will likely tend to her local woods for the rest of her life and she would never adapt to modern life, even with her girlfriend Brie. But that's just fine!
Hopefully, one day, she may help Brie begin writing her own books and possibly provide illustrations for them. The two may even have their own foal at some point. But nothing is set in stone, of course...
Trivia
- She was likely the only filly out of her siblings, only having brothers
- Her wooden flute is a family keepsake and is pretty old
- Especially because her mane often covers her other eye, many don't realize her heterochromia & she honestly doesn't recognize it as something special herself. In fact she's probably never seen herself in a mirror, besides looking at water reflections
Relationships
Brie is the only pony Fae loves to be around, which is quite the honor. However, Fae feels lucky herself that Brie gave up so much moving from the city to live in the woods. They really love each other and often read, scrapbook, and indulge each other's interests together. Fae is constantly trying to get Brie to take a break from studying, while Brie is always teaching Fae new things from her travels.
Faery only knows Ilumanita via Brie's excited ramblings, and hasn't experienced much herself. According to Brie, the two have many similar interests and would be good friends... Well, Fae trusts Brie, so she supposes Ilumanita must be alright.
In brief passings through the woods over the years, the two have gotten to know each other. They're friends, but they feel no need to meet up or chit-chat often. They simply respect each other as admirers of nature. Before Brie, Hickory was some of the only company of the pony-kind Fae would come across. She always liked knowing she wasn't entirely alone out there. Funnily enough, Ilumanita is Hickory's girlfriend, but it takes everyone a comically long time to realize how close they've all been running together.
