Nykinal’Amaeus, Amaeus for short and formerly known as ‘Phobia’, is one of the Dremora triplets liberated from Mehrunes Dagon by Calamity. A trio of chaotic siblings forged of the same azure plasm, their connections to one another once shared something similar to a hivemind.

Amaeus is a skinchanger who is able to distort his appearance into any mortal he obtains the blood of. He is also able to climb into the corpses of recently dead individuals and wear their appearance like an outfit. Between him and his siblings he is the most powerful of the three.

When Calamity liberated the triplets from Dagon they became somewhat ‘free’, able to form their own thoughts from each other for the first time, weakening the connection between them. This created a great rift between Amaeus and his sisters and he began to forge his own intent. When Numenandilaron shared his daedric bond with Velani he stretched the connection further, pulling Amaeus further from his sisters. The connection Amaeus shared with both Calamity and his sisters was so weak that he needn’t follow their commands. Instead, he abandoned his identity as ‘Phobia’ and became Nykinal’Amaeus, seeking out Velani in an effort to change his ways and learn how mortals assess what is right and wrong.
