About

Maggie may be charged with (and guilty of) a large number of crimes, but she hasn't let that stop her from attempting to become... well, some sort of member of society. She went into business with Cripps and has become a trader in the New Hanover area. In addition to that (mostly) legitimate business, she also gathers collectibles during her travels and trades them with Madame Nazar. She also occasionally takes bounty jobs and is looking into moonshining, but hasn't made large steps toward those careers.

Though she is entirely capable of talking, Maggie doesn't tend to speak up unless she needs to. Socializing has never been her favored skill. She frequently goes days or even weeks without saying a word without even thinking about it. That said, she enjoys chatting with some of her closer associates when in the chance.

Her moral code is definitely twisted and missing some pieces, but she prefers to avoid death or even injury unless it is absolutely necessary. In her opinion, the world is an unfair competition and she may have to cheat to make her way through at times, but there's no reason to ruin others' chances unless your life depends on it. This code... does slip sometimes. She tends to rationalize these unfortunate encounters and doesn't deal with much existential dread, but that's also due in large part to her belief that if God exists, she's already damned to hell.

Backstory

Maggie was not yet born when her father, having come to America some months earlier, sent for her mother. After a short delay, her mother sailed over from Ireland. Once reunited with her husband, she gave birth to a baby girl: Mairéad. The first year of Maggie's life was a good one, but trouble was quick to come. Maggie's father died in a work accident, leaving her mother to struggle to raise her daughter alone. They quickly found themselves floundering.

Maggie's younger years were spent in the care of whoever her mother could find to watch her. She was lucky enough to be sent to school for a time, mostly due to the fact that they were an effective child care while her mother worked to support them.

Though her mother attempted to shelter her from the truth of the situation, Maggie was all too aware of the less savory jobs her mother took. She also learned to pick pockets from some of the older children when they were desperate for food. Other minor criminal activity followed as she grew. By the time she was a teen, Maggie had stopped attending courses and began working. Her mother fell ill and passed when she was 14 years old.

After her mother's death, working odd jobs was no longer enough. Maggie, already used to crime from her days with the other needy children, turned to criminal activity to survive. She managed to make her way in the world with a combination of the two for a good long while until being framed for murder. She was sentenced to be hanged, but was broken out of prison by a mysterious benefactor and began her life anew.

Origin

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
