Personality:
Easygoing and friendly, he's often the one that first extends a helping hand to people. He's the type that gets along well with everyone, and is quite passive/doesn't seek conflict out. He's also very self-assured and fairly confident, and gives people the feeling of reliability (like everything will be okay when he's around). He walks with an easy air that disarms people/lowers their guard. He comes off as approachable but not someone to be trifled with.
Appearance:
He has orange hair and light brown eyes with flecks of amber. They only glow orangey-red when he is in his demon form/using his demon powers. He likes wearing brighter colours and floral prints. His jacket is custom-made by a friend who makes jackets and T-shirts. He prefers sneakers over any other footwear. Note: His right arm and most of his torso is bandaged up because his scars (when he was near death) start to appear when he uses too much of his magic.
Abilities/Powers:
He is more than capable of just fighting with his fists (spiked gloves) - his official weapon is that under the Bureau. He's half-demon, so he has more acute senses, very fast reflexes, rapid healing, enhanced strength and speed. Since he's been fighting for four decades and was blessed with the powers instead of cursed, he has complete control over his fire demon side. He hides the fact he's a half-demon (doesn't want the gov to find out) hence the weapon. When going up against the higher demons (the Risen), he is able to turn the hatchet he carries around on his belt into a flaming giant axe, and if need be, demon wings come out. He only does this when there's no one around. He has immunity to fire and lava.
Back Story:
Sei's family migrated to Hawaii from Japan when he was about ten. He was always a hot-headed, impulsive boy but with a big heart. The volcanoes on the islad thrived with fire demons who loved the heat and the molten fire. Sei loved it because he'd always been fascinated by volcanoes. Fire was beautiful, he thought; only evil made fire look destructive. Sometimes he'd even climb up to the edge of an inactive volcano and just peer down at the calm sea of lava, marveling at the sight.
He was in his teens when one of the volcanoes erupted, and with the lava pouring down the slopes, along with it came the fire demons, bent on expanding their territory to the rest of the island. Realizing what was at stake, Sei grabbed an axe and ran out of the village, towards the volcano, while the rest of the villagers were escaping. He wasn't about to let those demons take over anything. With all his might, he attacked the demons closest to him. It was demons like this that made folks scared of fire, he'd always thought. The more powerful ones would steal into the rest of the island and set fires here and there.
But the demons were too powerful and there were too many, not to mention the lava spurting out of the volcano. Sei got burnt, and in the last few minutes, he realized he wasn't going to make it. Might as well go, fighting. He brandished his axe with renewed fervour, ignoring the pain. Little did he know, the fire spirits were watching, impressed by the passion the boy had, and saved him. They did that by imbuing part of their spirit into him, effectively transforming him into a fire demon himself, but a special type.
Essentially he still has his human form, but when he uses his powers his demon characteristics come out (pointed ears, wings). If he gets too weak, his human form (the one right before his death) predominates and his burn scars start appearing. If he uses too much magic, it means there's no power left to sustain his ailing human form and he'll lose his life. As a demon, Sei ages very slowly; he became a demon when he was ~18, and a few decades have passed but he's only 22/23 in human age (almost 10 years for every 1 human year).
After watching his family age (and some die) from a distance, Sei left Hawaii and went to the mainland. He's been living in the city for over a year now, and had made a name for himself as a competent demon hunter.
