Valerian is a moody and brash Kumba, who's quick to judge others and hardly ever gives second chances. It's difficult to gain his trust and loyalty, but the first step is to earn his respect by showing both physical and psychological strength. The dark hob believes in the gods, as well as all supernatural powers and is very interested in anything that lets him feel connected to the 'otherworld', which makes him seem rather creepy to strangers. He's nocturnal and only hunts at night, where he feels safe from prying eyes. Because of that, Valerian always paints his teeth black with a paste of powdered ores to appease the 'souls' roaming at night and keep himself safe. Furthermore, he has a pet thylacine as companion, which helps him at scouting and hunting.
