Summary
Origins
Borga, along with the other deities of the Astral Plane, was created at the very birth of the universe, fashioned into being from the very materials of the universe. In the beginning, her role was simple: she was the goddess of the cardinal direction of North, a deity associated with the coldest regions of ice and mountains. In the beginnings, mortals did not move to these harsh and unforgiving lands, making Borga's role one of desolation and destruction.
Borga was among the few deities who had very little interaction with the Mortal Plane. While she exerted her control over the lands which she was assigned to, she had little to do other than to watch the domination of ice over her lands. Over time, she shaped the plants of the earth to adapt to her cold temperatures, allowing some life in the form of pines and hardy shrubs to flourish in her land, granting her some life to watch over, though she still longed for interaction with the mortals who wandered the earth.
Adoption as a Goddess
It took many millenia for the mortals to journey Northward; only when their technology of thick fur coats and warm fires advanced to the point that they could survive the endless snow did they dare to enter her world. Upon their entrance, Borna lowered her hold on the land slightly, trying to invite them to settle her landscape. However, only the most hardy dared to stay for long; mortals who survived by hunting the monsters of the land and by communing with the wilderness in which they found themselves. The race that settled the Northern Territories were unique, with ingenuity and hardiness greater than any races furhter south. Borga embraced these mortals, guarding over them with her watchful gaze.
As the mortals' spirituality and communing with nature grew, they slowly became aware of Borga's presence. The mortals chose soothsayers and shamans to worship her on their behalf, individuals who Borga chose as her own. Their awareness led to worship of her; worshipping her both as the goddess of the land where they lived and as the goddess of their lifestyles, of the hunt and the hardiness which they used to survive.
Deites tend to be static, unchanging, ever cosntant in their powers and personalities. However, the worship of the mortals embracing her as more than Borga's role was originally created to fill widened her domininion over the Astral Plane. She grew past the goddess of the land to the goddess of her people, a goddess of the hunt, of protection, of a fighting spirit. Moreoever, the great spirituality of the Northern Land inhabitants have strengthened Borga, making her among the most powerful and infleuntial dieties.
Borga continiues to cradle the Northern Peoples in her embrace. She cares deeply for her subjects, protecting them where she can while also upholding the ideals of strength, independence, and the hunt which shaped them in the first place. She expects a lot of her subject without being cruel, a factor which has led to the strength of her people. They continue to worship her passionately, shamans devoting their lives to her and to their people, a choice which she rewards handsomely with her favor and blessing.
