A girl from Falconreach who joins the adventure out of more or less sheer boredom. Kari is sneaky, witty, and a trickster, but she is incredibly loyal to those she trusts and a powerful force for good.
- Action Girl: Kari has absolutely zero qualms with fighting and is extremely competent.
- Bare Your Midriff: As a Cryptic, her outfit has a large cut-out section on her torso.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Kari is introduced in Falconreach as Ash Dragonblade's adopted sister. The reason she's adopted? Her home village of Ferndale was burned to the ground by Akriloth, the Great Fire Dragon, and her parents were killed in the attack. The first half of the Fire War is a bit of a personal vendetta for her.
- Devious Daggers: She uses daggers as her primary weapon, and she's one of the least scrupulous of the heroes, as well as being a known schemer and kleptomaniac.
- Doomed Hometown: Kari's home village of Ferndale was burned to the ground by Akriloth when she was a child. She survived; her parents did not.
- Dragon Knight/Dragon Rider: While she never actually uses the DragonLord class, Kari is officially a DragonLord and bonds with a Plasma dragon named Irana.
- Happily Adopted: By Ash's family. She considers them just as real a family to her as her biological parents were.
- Human Popsicle: Kari's fate at the end of Book 2, getting frozen away at Jaania's hands. At the beginning of Book 3, after many years, her icy prison finally shatters.
- It's Personal: Kari insists on facing Akriloth herself both times because he was the one who burned her home village to the ground and killed her parents.
- Kid Hero: She was introduced at 13 years old.
- Kid Hero All Grown-Up: By Book 2 (and continuing into Book 3 due to being frozen), Kari is 18, much taller, and noticeably more physically mature.
- Latex Perfection: Kari is the one who infiltrates Espina Rosa, disguised as a Rose soldier named Edd. Despite Edd being male, Kari is able to impersonate him nearly perfectly with nothing but a non-magical mask created by a face-nommer plant and his armor.
- Parental Abandonment: Her parents died during one of Akriloth's rampages.
- Power Floats: After becoming a Cryptic, much of Kari's battle style shifts to literally floating around the battlefield.
- Psychic Link: Kari finally learns how to do this with Irana in Book 3, her progress having been significantly hampered by being frozen for 5 years. Irana immediately teases her for taking so long.
