• Smokes, especially when he's stressed. He had tried to quit many times but can never do so entirely.
• Plays violin or viola, he's done it forever and is rather good.
• Cyril is a dog person, though he hadn't owned a dog since his teenage years. Space is not a place for a dog.
• Eats very unhealthy in the mornings; usually coffee and something sugary sweet if anything.

Cyril Norin’s origins are a bit of mystery. He is assumed to have been born and raised on an undiscovered planet, but the official records start when he stepped in to work for the original Intergalactic Research team. It was an organisation that found, managed, educated, trained and organized the crews for any new government funded space vessels. As a job it was fine, but Cyril wanted something more than a clean desk job. He wanted to do something that made a difference and actually meant something. Though his work life wasn’t very satisfying during that time, his personal life was very so. Cyril and Emily Vogel, a space pilot who worked as a scout, married after dating for years. They had three kids and things were alright.

When Emily returned duty after the birth of their youngest, she was killed during a scouting mission. It was marked down as an accident, but it was fairly clear that some of the crewmembers’ as well as Emily’s connection to the underground rebel organisation was discovered. The cat was out of the back ,and the political conflict between the corrupted government and the rebellious parties erupted into an open war. Cyril stayed in the middle of it, trying to make sense of anything, and working as an inside man for the rebels.

The war though. It was a mess, both literally and figuratively, and no one came out of it looking very good. But the whole conflict made some changes: the Intergalactic Government got new people handling things, and the most of the rebels actually moved away from the center planets to the outskirts of the union’s reach. They formed a new state of sorts, called Mirage, hoping for a fresh and better start.

Cyril ended up as one of the newly formed independent state’s diplomats. His job is to mend the broken bonds with the other parties and from new ones between discovered planets or the ones with their own independent government. Though it’s much quieter now than it was during the war, Cyril enjoys his job again. He thinks it’s simpler and more transparent now, which hopefully means the new diplomatic relationships are formed on the solid foundation.

As for his personal life, Cyril eventually married again, the captain he met during the war. His children are the priority, and their safety can never be compromised, so he’d always been very careful to keep his work life and home life separate from each other. These days it’s not so dangerous anymore, so he is a little bit more open about his family. When he’s not working, he lives a relatively normal family life in Mirage.
