Profile

Garu Orochi | 32 | he/him

Garu Orochi is the doctor and scientist who works for the technology company Ares. With a specialty in anesthesia and cybernetics, his abilities as a necromancer made him a valuable asset to the company. And an asset he is, for not only does he work for the company -- he was created by them too, and forced to do their dirty work. Not that he seems to mind at all, for he keeps a carefree (or is it careless?) disposition. But what exactly does that disposition hide beneath its surface?

Below Garu's nonchalant and rather absentminded outward persona is a seriousness and gravity that only is revealed once it is too late. Upon a first meeting this intimidating nature may come out -- he will hint at what he knows of the other through statements or actions meant to put the other participant on edge -- but beyond that he appears to drop his guard. He drinks cheap sparkling wine far too frequently. He smokes, even in his own hospital. Things slip his mind quite frequently. How could he be a threat? But make no mistake, he is quietly keeping record of everything, until the time that he can use the trust he developed for his own means.

ABILITIES

  • Garu, as an ouroboros, has the fangs of a solenoglyphous snake, which fold back when they are not in use. These fangs contain a bitter, potent venom, which causes intense muscle spasms in those unfortunate enough to experience it. While not fatal, it is not pleasant to most, so Garu makes his own antivenom that he keeps with him at all times. He underestimates how unpleasant it is, and he has mentioned he has felt the effects of his own venom before, so he may be somewhat resistant to his own venom's true potency.
  • Garu is unaffected by other abilities, whether active or passive. This power comes from his golden eyes -- once a Curian ability, the power and the eyes were traded with him by Sacchan Kurouto. This ability does not work by inhibiting the ability in the user, rather it works by simply making himself immune to it. This has been shown when he was able to consistently see Marun Ookami to be Kori Omoide, even though Marun was obscured by a passive perception alteration ability otherwise. Garu isn't secretive about this immunity, but he prefers to hint about it than to mention it outright. (This ability does not protect him from technological, chemical, or physical means of being compromised).
  • Garu has the ability as a necromancer to revive the dead. He revived his stillborn daughter into the body of one of his dead pets, indicating that if he does not have a body he can suitably repair, he is able to use a substitute. He revived former Ares employees Kai Teiriku and Wren into the cyborg experiments Tekuka and Althea.
  • As well as these abilities, Garu is an incredibly skilled surgeon, anesthesiologist, and technician.

INFO

  • Garu is designated as experiment X01 out of the experiments created by Ares. He was made to be a gorgon, but ended up as an ouroboros. He was created before Soru Omoide, the current owner of the company, was born, but he somewhat blames Soru for taking advantage of his compulsion to do whatever Ares requires.  He has tried to quit Ares before, but he always ends up returning to take on worse projects than before.
  • Garu is devoid of his own moral code. If something needs to happen, he will justify it. If something can be justified, he will do it.
  • Although he often has to hurt others for his job, he tries to make it as bearable as possible. He doesn't want anyone to get hurt, and his compromises and negotiations with Ares are a result of the compassion he has left. He has negotiated to have the cyborg experiment Tekuka sedated instead of dismantled completely at one point, and he takes the proper procedures to minimize risk and pain for even his test subjects. Where possible, he talks his patients through the procedures they are going through.
  • Highly analytical. He picks up on things that he shouldn't, even if he acts like he doesn't notice it. He will say a few things to make someone suspect he knows, though. How he gets this information is anyone's guess.
  • A huge fan of idols. His favorite is Kuro Kurai, an idol from outside of the city of Myrios. He also dated Kioku Kyuurei, supposedly a former idol.
  • Kind of socially awkward once someone tries to get to know him. While he is serious and methodical at his job, he also tries too hard to impress others outside of work. He's a notorious workplace flirt, and he somehow manages to mess up on any dates he goes on.
  • He kind of takes on a mentor role to those that remind him of a certain person. It's almost like he wants to impart lessons to others and keep them safe, even if it will eventually be himself they need to keep safe from.
  • He's secretly leading the "Floor Nine Project", an Ares project meant to turn its tech repair staff into cyborgs that can repair themselves. Due to the ethical implications of these staff members not being informed of this project, the Floor Nine Project and Garu's involvement are closely guarded company secrets.

TRIVIA

  • Garu keeps frozen mice in his freezer. He is implied to eat these, but they may just be for his pet snakes to eat instead.
  • His password for his Ares computer login is 123456. He keeps a lot of personal photos on his work computer, which Kori Omoide found the first time she tried hacking him.
  • After this, he claims his computer was compromised by the ILOVEYOU worm. However, this either means he has a REALLY old operating system, or he lied about it and deleted evidence of Ares' wrongdoings from his computer himself, and needed an excuse. He definitely knows the difference between a .vbs and a .txt file, so it was probably a lie.
  • He has had a crush on both Omoide siblings. His main feelings are for Soru, but he has expressed interest in Kori as well. Soru doesn't approve of Garu's interest in Kori.
  • He's a surprisingly good father to his daughter Takano, who he presumably had with his ex-wife. While she is still in the body of a dead pet, he takes her to work to get her out of the house sometimes. Being a father might just be the only thing he does without having an ulterior motive.
  • He needs reading glasses sometimes. One pair was broken by Aven, and another pair he owns are somewhat damaged. Considering he keeps his laboratory dark, only illuminated by his test chambers and the reprogramming machine, it's no surprise that he can't see for shit in his own lab.

Patients:

Soru Omoide - Garu recovered Soru's body from a drowning incident, when Soru hydroplaned on the highway leading into the city of Myrios, landing his car in the pond beside the highway. His life at that point could only be recovered with use of the reprogramming machine. Soru didn't handle the process well, and was left with a phobia of water due to associating it with the procedure, so Garu makes specific medication for Soru to manage this in his daily life.

Kai Teiriku -Garu was involved in the later years of Kai's construction. While Kai was kept in a test chamber, unaware of the outside world, Garu's voice was delivered to him from outside the chamber. As Kai's development was transferred to X46 to manage, Kai never met Garu for a long time, leading him to assume Garu was a voice he heard in his head that died during the first reprogramming Kai underwent. This, of course, was not the case, but Kai would not meet Garu until Garu recovered Kai's dead body and reconstructed it. Kai requested that Garu erase his memories, change his eye color, and remove his requirement for sleep in exchange for being revived and rebuilt, which Garu agreed to.

Tekuka - Tekuka was created by Garu, as Tekuka is the revived amnesiac Kai, now a cyborg. Upon revival, Garu was the one who installed the memory hard drive into Tekuka to erase his memories and create a place for future ones to be stored. He also was in charge of the reprogramming that Tekuka underwent upon revival, as well as supervising him while in the test chamber recovering. Later, Tekuka was hospitalized to extract the cure to the toxin, and Garu was in charge of his sedation. He was tasked by Aven Shika to reduce the Curian energy in Tekuka's power system, but Garu never carried this through. Tekuka later had to be hospitalized for various reasons, with Garu often in charge of his care; Tekuka was brought in for recovery after witnessing a decapitation, brought to Garu again for repair when he got a virus, and finally Garu anesthetized Tekuka while Kori Omoide was away from the city, as a compromise to Soru Omoide, who wanted Tekuka dismantled.

Kioku Kyuurei - Kioku became one of Garu's patients when she catfished him, dated him, and needed his help to remove a memory hard drive implanted in her head. While the date was awkward for both of them, such sentiments didn't carry over to their doctor-patient relationship, where Garu treated Kioku professionally. He guided her through a process in a test chamber where she had to sort through the device's artificial memories with the help of the chamber's analytics and specialized drugs. To remove the password commands on the memory hard drive, he treated her with the reprogramming machine. He later had to sedate her to transport her out of the Ares Building due to complications that arose with her and Soru Omoide, although he holds no hard feelings towards her over this incident.

Marun Ookami - Marun also tried to date Garu to get his help, specifically his copies of Nezumi Iro's experiment files. He drugged Marun's wine and prepared to operate on Marun to progress Project Answer, part of the Floor Nine Project. While Marun woke during surgery, Garu had already begun installing cybernetics into Marun's body. The surgery failed due to Marun's unwillingness to continue and his self-imposed death during the procedure.
