He was born with an older brother, but was separated from him after their parents abandoned them and was placed in an orphanage where he was bullied and mostly blinded by the other children. He was eventually adopted by a man that wanted to use his rune abilities but ultimately abandoned by him because he was too softhearted to use them to fight.
