Princess Maribella had just turned 18 years of age when a party was held in her honor to find her a suitor for her hand in marriage. People came from far off to this once mighty kingdom, that in it's vast years had not aged well. Power and wealth they once had aplenty escaped them and the only thing left to them was the royal bloodline and name that held still held some sway. But a princess was a princess and opportunities like this for young lords with money but less than ancient blood did not come around often.
Princess Maribella had been raised to be the perfect bride, a way to restore their status. Though tudored and well studied, learned in many subjects no one but Maribella could take credit for her breathtaking beauty. But for all her intelligence and kindness Maribella was quite odd. She spent more time in the sea surrounding her aging fairytale-esque castle, swimming, diving, and playing aplenty with it's inhabitants. She was often scolded and pulled from the waters in her soaking wet gowns, complaining loudly, only wanting to fall back into the seas embrace. Casting one last sorrowful look to the place she felt was truly her home.
As one would expect the ball held in her honor did not yield the desired results and Maribella did not meet any such man as the one destined to be her prince charming. An evil sorcerer tricked and schemed to claim her, and all of her kingdom, for himself. Maribella refused, stating boldly that they would never be married and her kingdom would never be his to control.
Finding her declaration amusing he showed her just how easily he could take it all if he wanted. In retaliation he turned the King and Queen into simple goldfish and the princess into a mermaid, locked away until the day she agreed to marry him.
Unable to resign herself to that fate, and with a little help from a new friend she's determined to reclaim her kingdom and having fins won't slow her down!
Notes
- Significant Other: Thane
- Maribella, a natural born mermaid as far as Thane knows, has a hard time catching 'prey'. Fish often slip through her fingers and crabs pinch and bully her, their shells too tough for her to crack besides. Thane thinks she's a hopeless little shut in who always had someone to provide and never did any of her own hunting. He often scolds her and is quick to remind her the sea is harsh and those who can't feed themselves end up being the meal. However harsh he seems on the outside he finds pleasure in the small fish relying on him and enjoys showing off his strength and agility.
- Thane has given her the 'annoying' nickname 'Guppy' but he tends to use it affectionately more times than not.
- Thane is powerful but too headstrong for his own good. Maribella has the wits and cleverness to balance him out. Often having to free the overgrown shark from nets or hooks, saving him yet another well earned scar that would have only added to his vast collection.
