To them, you were a pitiful caged canary. Imprisoned to serve only as a trophy-- the king's ego stoked at the idea that he was able to defeat a deity, of all things.
Meanwhile, you were the last piece on your side of the board. Alone. You saw the end in sight, and you knew this game's 'checkmate' was soon at hand.
Knowing that fact, you waited. You bided your time, playing nice with the pieces that came to visit you. Despite your own fate looming over your head, you listened to their woes-- even offered them solace and gave the people the hope that they needed.
...As a result, the people couldn't help but love you, and by extension, despise the corrupted king in black that had first imprisoned you here. You became the people's hope, and people will desperately cling to their hope even if it meant their deaths. Without you even lifting a finger, the castle was soon overrun as the people were desperate to save the one they deemed their true king.
The end had arrived, and the outcome just as you'd expected--
Checkmate.

playful. sly. benevolent. the beloved king of a country once known for its slaves, which has since been reformed and now serves as a safe haven for those who desire freedom.
Koda was once just a carefree deity that liked to play tricks on travelers, or share his vast wealth of knowledge if he found them worthy. Many deities have been disappearing over the years, and Koda was one of the last few remaining. Because deities tend to bless those around them, a monarch captured him and trapped him for this "blessing". Now, he serves as a king for the kingdom he was captured by, with a tiny habit of playing tricks on travelers who come to his kingdom.

✦ Koda doesn't exactly know how old he is, and lost count. At one point, he was taken prisoner and couldn't keep track of time properly.
✦ Koda is a lot smarter than he'll appear to be. He'll act very childish on the surface, but has been known to trick other rulers and countries for the benefit of his own.
✦ Is the one of the last known deities left in the world. The others have gone missing over the years, and this fact makes him just a little bit sad...
✦ Mainly middle-eastern influences. Hindu, indian, and arabic primarily.
