Dragonfly

They/them - Changling protector of the Glades - Aro/Ace

Once upon a time, Dragonfly used to be a mortal kalon, living in a secluded village. They had a rather happy childhood with loving parents. Every year, the villagers would have a festival for their harvest where they were a proficient dancer for. Unfortunately, this skill of theirs would attract some unwanted attention. On their 12th birthday something terrible came, and Dragonfly would dare not forget that day.

The nearby Fae in that area found fascination in them, and as soon as they were alone, they were abducted and replaced by a changeling. Dragonfly was brought in to be entertainment for the court, forced to dance in unnatural ways to their pleasure. Any attempt of escape was punished harshly, often being deprived of water and food. When finally they were able to escape, they were now a young adult. Faster and faster they ran, to the old village they used to call home.

Unfortunately for them, a couple of years earlier the village was plagued by famine and disease, leading to its own abandonment. They had lost everything; their home, their family, everything. But as soon as they heard the Fae come for them again, they grabbed every piece of silver they could; they would make sure their captors could never take them, or hurt them again.

Dragonfly isn’t their original name, but it was one given to them for their terrifying prowess against the court, using their skills of dance into a dance of blades. Slowly over the years, they drove out every Fae they could find using the silver they had on themselves. They were agile and accurate, with their captors giving up once it wasn’t worth the effort to get Dragonfly back.

Currently Dragonfly resides in a hut besides the swamp, acting as a warning for travelers that dare stray into Fae territory.  They are well aware that they’re more Fae than mortal now; a changeling. Yet, despite all of that they keep silver jewelry hanging from every corner of their territory to serve as protection for themselves even as the Fae have forgotten them. Dragonfly knows they are seen as a monster and they know not to try when they try to reconnect with their mortal roots; those memories are long forgotten and hazy at best.
