Backstory

From a young age, Maybelle always loved to search the wilds for rare Pokémon, whether it be the species, or in her case, the coloring. Shinies were always her thing, no matter how rare they were she seemed to attract them. Perhaps it was the odd charm she never seemed to let go of. Growing up as a next-door neighbor to Hop and Leon, she received her first Pokémon from the unbeatable champion at 10 years old - a black-wooled Wooloo alongside Hop's white one. 

The two of them practiced and battled together, always coming up with strategies to finally defeat Hop's older brother. Eventually at 16, both of them left on the gym challenge together after witnessing an odd, terrifying but inspiring event involving two Pokémon at the Slumbering Weald. Hop received a Scorbunny and their journey began. Their teams became more filled out and more powerful over time. Together with Dubwool, she had a team of six and seemed ready enough for the League and the champion, even just barely besting Hop in battle. 

Though this was about to change, as Chairman Rose unleashed Eternatus and the Darkest Day, leaving the world in shambles unless it could be stopped. Not even the combined forces of Leon, Maybelle and Hop could stop the rampaging monster, until the two of them held up the Rusted Sword and Shield. The shining blue and red canines Zacian and Zamazenta came to their rescue. After a long, tiring battle, Eternatus in its strongest form fired off an intense beam, which Hop was not prepared for. Maybelle pushed him out of the way, causing her to be razed by the energy. Though it was merely a brush, it nearly engulfed her left side and put her close to death. Though she said nothing more, her Pokemon continued to fight at her side. But she never took her eyes off of Zacian, and the legendary seemed to do the same, only looking away for a moment to deal devastating blows on the monster Pokémon. 

After Eternatus was defeated and captured by Hop, Maybelle was immediately taken to the hospital, where her life was saved but she was left severely scarred, mostly on her chest. She was lucky not to lose her vision on that side, but she had to relearn to walk as her left leg was weakened. The trainer wasn't discouraged, and hoped to fight Leon for real when she recovered. The final battle was put off for months. And all the while, Hop visited her everyday. 

Staring out her hospital window one night, she felt compelled to look outside. There was Zacian, seemingly in ghost-form again, looking up at her longingly. Zamazenta was off in the distance, awaiting someone's return. The eye contact continued, with the two of them seeming to exchange thoughts and feelings with just a stare. The next morning, she asked to be taken to Slumbering Weald again, with all but Hop and Leon doubting her claims of the legendary Pokémon sighting. Once they took her there, she was excited at the sight of Zacian and Zamazenta waiting for them. The two trainers understood immediately what to do, and the two Pokemon respectively joined their teams. Hop and Zamazenta seemed bound to Maybelle and Zacian, the three of them protecting her from anyone or anything that should come her way. 

Once she recovered enough to walk and battle again, Maybelle finally battled with Leon, to much uproarious applause. With his permission, she battled with Zacian against his mighty Charizard, which proved to be a very close victory. She allowed Leon to remain Champion though, to give people hope that they too could beat him someday. She also didn't like the idea of all the responsibilities of being a Champion, political power, sponsors, etc. She doesn't feel that she's ready for that commitment.

Useful Info

• She still has a weak left side and has chronic pain in that area. Some days are harder than others for her to operate the respective arm/leg. Dubwool or Zacian will carry her if she has trouble walking, or she'll hold onto a smaller Pokémon of hers if she's in a store, etc. 
• She doesn't battle with Zacian all the time, and would rather leave them to their own devices out of their ball, as they are a legendary and need to deal with other things like rampaging Dynamax Pokémon. Still, they are "linked" and should Maybelle be in any serious danger, they will make their way to her in a flash. They also just tend to hang out around each other, enjoying each other's presence. 
• The shiny Pokémon she has caught surmises a long list, but she always has her Dubwool with her, as well as a Greedent, Polteageist, Lapras, Indeedee (F), and Appletun (her original team of six)
• She likes to bake Pokémon treats in her spare time (poffins, pokepuffs)
