A young lady who exists on the fringes of the Batman's Rogues Gallery - not as a villain herself, but as an ally of sorts. Deeply loyal, strictly compassionate and endlessly loving, Maria Mason is "the Answer" to Edward Nygma's "Riddler", acting as an advocate and source of healing for the Crown Prince of Puzzles.
She wants only what is best for him, regardless of what that might be, and is steadily drawing him out of a life of crime however she can. Aside from that, she is an artist and creator with an intellect hidden by a quiet nature, alongside an incredibly lateral mind - the metaphorical "box" being "in the next country over".
She has a great love of domestic life, and developed a keen love of cooking and baking from her parents; she is a creator in all ways, and wants nothing more than to bring a bit of homemade warmth to the world, even with the smallest gestures.
Character
Among Edward's gang - although she doesn't partake in criminal activity herself - Maria is well-loved for her kindness and motherly instinct, ensuring they're all as safe as can be and treated well. If she finds out anyone will be going hungry, she'll always cook something up for them personally.
Should someone take advantage of her kindness, however, or insult her, she is more than capable of standing her ground, and has a legendary "you messed up" death-glare, much like any mother, that can have even some hardened criminals cowed. If that fails, there's a high chance some henchmen will come to her defence - or, perhaps most dangerously, her lover, who is fiercely protective of his Answer. Disrespecting Maria in Edward's presence is practically painting a target on one's back.

- Visits Arkham Asylum whenever she is able, if Eddie is incarcerated.
- Is evenly matched with Eddie at all forms of chess, even verbal.
- Has an alternate verse where she's in a poly triad with Eddie and Jon.
- Has various verses for each instance of Batman media.
- Is the mother of twins in most verses - Elizabeth Nygma and Alfie Nygma.

The question to her Answer, the lock to her key, the love of her life - Edward and Maria exist as an inseparable pair, almost made for each other. He adores her with every beat of his heart, and considers her his "Answer": one of many possibilities, for certain, but the one he loves most above all else, the one to make sense of a life filled with questions. There will always be questions, of course - "the human mind always does" - but they are sure to face every trial together, no matter what they might be.
Atlas [ friend ]
Another "normal" in a world of the supernormal, Maria took Atlas under her wing when they met at a Rogues' meeting. She is motherly to him in some verses and a best friend to him in others, but there isn't a verse where she doesn't protect him, making sure Atlas is never threatened by the Rogues or Bats alike.
