Alex Peeler
Alex ran away from his rural midwestern foster home when he was 17 and now works as a mechanic in the city. Here, he becames Bodie's neighbor. When she makes plans to develop an alternative to the Kee company product, she enlists Alex's help as a mechanic. When the the Kee family (Red) comes to address this crack in their monopoly, they do so by giving a Alex a job offer Bodie could never hope to match. Alex takes the job, prioritizing his own well-being over others' while his sharp tongue to keep them at arm’s length.

Maria Hendricks [ childhood friends/found siblings ]
While in foster care, Alex and Maria were each other's only support. They were inseperable. Alex left Maria when he ran away from the group home, and he has not seen her since. It is a source of great guilt for him.
Red Kee [ Friends? ]
Alex develops a close relationship with Red Kee as the story progresses. They start out distant, having seemingly nothing in common, but they learn to lean on each other over time.
Bodie [ Rivals ]
Alex and Bodie start out at odds with each other, with circumstance and outside forces driving a wedge between them. Alex’s selfishness and Bodie’s selflessness also contribute to their intial dislike of each other, but the two eventually develop a friendly rivalry (Lots of jokingly insulting each other).
