"What is this viscet's goal for this year?"
As a rather troubled youth with a simple, yet haunting past, Dustin is often finding himself with the wrong kind of crowds and people to blow off steam that gathers over the week because of his inability to communicate and express his needs. His adoptive father, Thomas, is constantly trying to promote better decision-making and choice of peers, but Dustin often brushes it off and ignores any advice he gives. Dustin feels disconnected from Thomas and has never once addressed him in any other way besides his actual name because, in some way, he partly blames his parents’ death on him.
Thomas is an extremely patient person and was the only one willing to take Dustin in as a child after Keisha, Thomas’s long-time friend and sole caretaker of the city’s Outer Ring orphanage, had been unable to find a home for the rambunctious and rather mean-spirited viscling. For his entire life, Dustin has never had a father-son relationship with Thomas and often purposely goes out of his way to be inconvenient or just borderline malicious with his intentions.
Thomas handles his son’s behavior tactfully, never seeming to get angry, which usually leads Dustin to find increasingly more dangerous situations to get himself into. He almost tries to prove that Thomas doesn’t actually care for him. The 8-year battle between them came to a head the previous year when Dustin got in over his head and Thomas had to come and rescue him from what was to be a violent and possibly fatal fight. Since then, Dustin has been coming around begrudgingly, and though he would never admit it, he’s been growing a relationship and putting in more effort to break bad habits and try to please his father in a quiet apology for the years of trouble he’s caused.
