A Quick Summary

5017301_LdnVGc5K8LlJMp8.png

Maska'le'thenn'i, better known as "Maska", is the curious and adventurous dire wolf "princess" who gets into trouble more often than not. She is greatly fascinated by non-dire wolves and wants to learn more. She wants to be open-minded, unlike her parents, and doesn't see why her clan needs to be so distant. Her parents are often ignoring and dismissing her, anyways, and she's grown to resent them for it.

Because Maska's parents barely pay attention to her outside of clan meetings, Maska keeps leaving her home in the forest and prefers to hang around her friends in the town. She loves Ulysses, Brooke, Chryssi, and the others, because they listen to her and teach her new things.

Around her friends, Maska is a sweet and gentle girl, and also a bit tomboyish. She loves adventuring and would definitely fight a bear if not stopped. Being young and naive as she is, she can be a bit too openly friendly with strangers, though. She is easily physically and emotionally hurt by others, so her friends need to protect her.

Originally, Maska knew very little "common" (the equivalent of English on her world), but she has gotten better overtime with help from Ulysses and others. Her communication failures are few and far in between now. She wasn't very good at hunting or magic, either, but she's been quickly improving with lessons from Brooke, too. She likes to drag Kenelm along to her hunting lessons, so they can practice together. Though, the one thing she's already been good at is gathering and identifying plants. (Sadly, her clan, made of meat-eating dire wolves, did not see the value in it.)

Maska's hobbies include carving, weaving, and leather crafting. She's quite skilled and resourceful for her age and can do pretty well on her own. Unlike her clanmates, who prefer raw or roasted meat, Maska has always wanted to learn how to cook. Her clanmates are not a fan of her "extra touches" with herbs and spices.

Maska currently resides in the large winter forest some distance away from the northern town of Crystalwake, in Lusus Naturae. Despite her parent's warnings to stay away, she constantly wanders into the town to hang out with her town friends. The clan elders have gotten a lot more lenient about it, though, as they've seen that she is happier and learns a lot more by being around the townsfolk.

"Hi, my name is Maska!"

Design Notes

  • Maska's eyes are a very deep orange-reddish color.
  • The ear feathers are only behind her right ear.
  • Her paw pads are dark brown, like her nose.

Trivia

  • Maska is very impressionable and often picks up habits from others. (Hand gestures, catchphrases, etc.)
  • She found the obsidian for her dagger in a random cave at the ravines.

Appearance

2094301_FE5Jv2czphsPyuT.png

Maska is a young dire wolf. She has vibrant reddish-orange eyes. Her coat is thick, wavy, and soft to the touch. She has brown fur with a tan underbelly and a large dark brown stripe from her head, over her shoulders, and to her tail. Her fur is marked with various dark brown and tan stripes. She has odd teardrop and crescent-shaped marks by her eyes, on her shoulders, and her feet.

Apparel

Maska always wears vibrant orange and green feathers and some form of self-weaved accessories - often bracelets and a tail band. While the feathers are natural, the vibrant orange, green, and white colors they are painted in are not. The feathers serve as identification and a sign of heritage in Maska's clan, so they are never taken off. She wears two behind her left ear and has two attached to her tail band.

She has a special obsidian dagger with a leather-wrapped handle and a leather sheath to keep it in. It serves as a self-defense and field tool.

All of Maska's bags and sheath have snap straps that allow quick and easy access to her belongings and dagger if needed.

Powers & Abilities

Maska has minor fire and nature magic powers. She can ignite small flames that are useful for starting campfires and lighting up areas, but the flames are often too weak to be used in battle.

Her nature magic only allows her to summon small vines, which are too weak to do much, and feel out where herbs, fruits, and berries are. It still comes in handy for foraging purposes.

With enough practice, Maska has the potential to become stronger.

Fire Magic
  • Maska can ignite small, weak flames.
Nature Magic
  • Maska can summon small vines and track down herbs and other foraging goods.
Personality

Maska'le'thenn'i, better known as "Maska," is the daughter of one of the dire wolf clan elders. She is a curious and adventurous individual who gets into trouble more often than not. Despite her father and mother's warning to stay way from the northern townsfolk, she repeatedly wanders off to the town when nobody's around. She's not exactly a rebel, but most would think that from how often she disobeys her elders. In reality, she has a great fascination with the town and townsfolk and has a desire to learn more about them. She wants to be open-minded, unlike her parents, and doesn't really see the reason why her clan has to be so distant from the townsfolk.

Unfortunately, communication outside of her clan is a struggle, because she doesn't know very much English. She doesn't always speak up, since sometimes she can't even find the words for what she wants to say. It results in a lot of communication failures on her half. On the bright side, she's pretty persistent! One bad experience isn't enough to drive her away. She'll come back and try again eventually.

To her clan, she is a flawed member, due to her inadequate hunting skills. She never feels like she belongs with her own kind, and she's treated a lot differently for being the daughter of an elder and being unable to bring back anything from a hunt. But for what she lacks in hunting skills, she does make up with her gathering skills. She can identify plants and knows most of their uses and whether they're edible or not, and she knows the best places to gather in the whole forest. It's just too bad that her clan isn't a fan of fruits and veggies. To please her clan, she does what she can to bring food in, even if her parents disagree with her bringing food in from the town.

She constantly seeks the approval of her parents and tries her best to impress them and everybody else around her; she gets really sad when people ignore or dismiss her. Around friends, she is a sweet and gentle girl - if not a bit tomboyish, though. She loves to go on adventures and isn't afraid of taking a few risks. She'd definitely fight a bear if left to it. Being young and naive as she is, she can be a bit too openly friendly with strangers, which does leave her open to being easily physically and emotionally hurt by others.

Maska has a variety of hobbies, from carving to weaving and leather crafting, that have been taught to her by her father and Elder Aedh'mir. These hobbies double as survival skills for when she's out on her own. For a young girl, she's quite skilled and resourceful and pretty well off on her own. Unlike her clanmates, who prefer to simply roast things on the fire or eat meat raw, Maska has always had an interest in cooking and really wants to learn how to cook. She imitates the townsfolk by adding herbs and spices whenever she can. Her clanmates are obviously not a fan of her "extra touches."

Her main hobbies are carving, weaving, and leather crafting. She makes all of her own tools and accessories, minus her feathers, and she's rather proud of that fact. Her favorite food is soup and BBQ, but she'll settle for just about anything flavorful. She loves cooking despite not being able to cook that well herself. At home, she keeps her own stash of collectibles and materials for whenever she feels like crafting. She loves collecting sharp objects that are suited for cutting and feathers, in order to make more daggers and little gifts for friends.

She has a great fear of Morpheus, shadow creatures, and wildfires, due to an event in her past. Her least favorite food is anything sour and white chocolate. She never uses limes or lemons on her food and finds white chocolate too sweet and not chocolate-y enough. While it's bound to happen with all the use and wear, she really hates it when her stuff breaks, because she ends up having to repair or make entirely new tools in replacement.

Residence

Maska lives in the large winter forest some distance away from the northern town, Crystalwake, in Lusus Naturae, as a member of the dire wolf clan. She enjoys wandering through the forest each day, gathering herbs and edibles for her clan.

Sometimes she can be found around the outskirts of Crystalwake, trying to get some cooked meals instead.

She has started venturing more often into the town lately and usually follows Chryssi or Brooke around the place.

Backstory

When she was a young pup, Maska wandered out often. She knew very little of the world, because her mother and father always sheltered her from everything and everyone, except for her clanmates. On one particular month, her clan became wary of a group of adventurers who came to the northern side and built up a little town. She was forbidden to go near it, but she did anyways and continued to wander close to the townsfolk, despite all the alarm she caused. It was troublesome, but Elder Aedh'mir always managed to cover up her tracks and keep them out of trouble.

On a certain day, Maska wandered near the town like she always did. Just another normal day. Except Morpheus and Kenelm showed up with their friends. They attacked the town suddenly and set it ablaze, causing the townsfolk to scatter and flee, and Maska was caught up in the panic. She ended up trying to escape in all the confusion but was trapped with shadow creatures at every corner. Elder Aedh'mir eventually found her and came to her rescue but not before recieving a wound across the shoulder and neck. He managed to drag her to safety and hide the clan in the forest. All Maska heard for the rest of that afternoon were the screams of the people and Morpheus' eerie laughter echoing across the fields.

It took Maska a few months to get over it. The event left her plagued with nightmares of Morpheus and the great fires. She was afraid of being alone and became clingy towards her parents, but she eventually returned to wandering around on her own like always. At some point, she decided to try find out more about the guardian, Brooke, who lived in the ruins, which led to her following the mage around. Brooke wasn't exactly thrilled about it and made all efforts to lose her every time she showed up. Maska saw it as a game.

About a year later, Maska saw three adventurers - a doctor, scholar, and knight - show up to the northern side and grew curious of them. She made the decision to stay hidden from these three, unlike all the other travellers she had met before. Within a few months, the three began to construct homes again, replacing the previous town that was destroyed. She began to leave them alone after that, once she realized they didn't mean any harm and were there...for some reason she didn't know. At first, she was afraid for them and feared that a monster would show up like last time. Her fears were proven to be true, when Morpheus attempted to burn the small town down. However, this time, Brooke showed up and fought both Kenelm and Morpheus away in a bloody battle, causing the two enemies to flee. It became clear to Maska that Brooke was going to protect them, which made her respect him a little more. She decided to stop annoying him after that.

As the town continued to grow, so did Maska's curiousity. She found it difficult to stay away from the town for too long and continues to wander by every now and then to see how things are going. She ended up meeting others but never stuck around long enough to form any friendships, but she was perfectly fine with it. Besides, she'd get in trouble if she kept talking and hanging around the townsfolk. It was better for her to keep her distance.
