Profile

Beatrice Donner was 21 when she first gained her Golden powers.  She was a young idealist, working as a game tester, but really hoping she could use it as a springboard to start actually working on making video games, and maybe even making her own!  She wasn't GREAT at programming yet, but she learned at a pretty decent pace.  Not that it was easy, with crunch hours leaving precious little free time.  And if she had a bit more income maybe she would be able to actually get a car, instead of trying to bike in Los Angeles.

But, really, it was pretty lucky for her to have teleported away when the truck was about to hit her.  Not as lucky for her bike.  She was reeling from the experience, but it wasn't just the teleportation itself, it was the sensations she felt during it.  It wasn't instant.  First, there was the truck.  And then there was a feeling of weightlessness, and a sort of static.  Visions of hexadecimal. And lattes. And then the visions faded, and she was inside a coffee shop.  Well, that'd explain the lattes.  But it didn't explain why her bike was out there and broken, and she was in here and fine.

There is a Golden power known as Computer Manipulation, and there are several known Gilded with this specific ability, which allows one to sort of project their mind into a computer system, usually by making physical contact with the device in question.  Basically think what Deckers can do in Shadowrun, but with superpowers instead of virtual reality.  Most systems are not equipped to handle somebody who has a visual representation and ability to manipulate their security from the inside, but most Computer Manipulation Golden have some sort of bonus gimmick that works in tandem with their ability.  One Gilded can enter computer systems not just mentally, but digitally.  Another can "spawn in" items represented digitally on the system they're interacting with.

Beatrice Donner does not need to touch a computer in order to access it, as long as it's connected to a wireless network.  And from there, she can teleport anywhere the wi-fi can reach.  This works if her mind has travelled across the internet to access another network somewhere else in the world.  She hasn't had to pay airfare in a long time.

Aurum was very quick to scoop her up to see how her talents could be utilized for the greater good.  Beatrice found that learning programming and other related skills came easier than ever alongside her new powers, and was starting her own game studio.  Aeon proposed a sort of educational game, teaching the history of Novas and what they are.  People have been gaining powers younger and younger, and no children or teens have become Gilded yet, but it seemed to be only a matter of time.  Development of the game was publicly known, but secretly, it was never to be released regardless of progress.
Why the game was apparently canned so close to the end of development was always a mystery to the public, but in secret, the Aurum scouted out potential young Gilded to send the basically complete game to.  Were they truly gifted with an M-R node, the specially designed program would help to unlock their powers, with Beatrice watching from their computer, disguised as her company mascot.  Were it to prove successful, she would be there to help ease them into their Golden identity, and if not, well, it's easier to control online distribution when you're literally hiding in the computer, ready to delete it at a moment's notice.

While projected into a network, she takes the form of the reindeer mascot of her studio, Donner Games.  This is certainly because of the aforementioned disguise stuff, and it definitely isn't her fursona.

should i have said something about the like, espionage the Aurum got her in on? Teleporting via computer networks is p good infiltration abilities it makes sense they'd want her for that.  Oh, right, Aurum's less savory black ops are secret. Nevermind then.
