kithood [ 0 - 6 moons ] >
    roachkit's parents were a secret — his mother, dovemask, was a marshclan warrior, while his father, moth-heart, was a cloudclan warrior. both were admirable cats, and they ended up falling for another. this resulted in them having kits, and their luck ran to be plentiful (or pitiful) to some.
    the tom kit was born alongside his four sisters, coming out fourth oldest. his heart is big, much like his father's, and he was ready to make friends with whoever was willing to put up with him!
    when roachkit was only four moons, it was announced that all four clans would be going to war. marshclan allied with emberclan, a decision that frustrated the kit. there was no solid proof that cloudclan stole prey! the fact that beekit and spiderkit were eager to fight them on top of that... he's hoping this blows over before they're old enough to actually fight in the coming battles.
    deciding it was time to make up with his sister, roachkit made quick amends with beekit during the first clan meeting announcing that there would be a new sign language founded by his nini, coalfrost, and their mate, sandslash. he's excited to have an easier time talking with spiderkit, and hopes that his relationships can remain positive.

apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] >
    now an apprentice and donning his new name, roachpaw, the tom is ready to face the places outside of camp. he's ready to see the fields he's only heard about from his father; the willow trees on the outskirts of the territory that his mother has tried to describe to him. roachpaw wants to see it all, alongside his mentor tadpoleskip.
    roachpaw worked to make amends with his family when problems arose, and if they didn't want to agree, he would choose his words carefully or take breaks. he only wanted everyone to be happy before himself — much like how his father tried. when he took part in his first battle, his opponent was one he would never forget. rootpaw was crazy in his eyes with how she seemed to enjoy the fight a little too much. neither lost as the sudden death of his clanmate, foxcloud, and a cloudclan warrior occurred, causing both clans to flee back with their deceased.
    the second battle was far worse for the apprentice. roachpaw decided to stay back this time to keep those left in camp entertained, joking around and the like. he was happy putting smiles on others faces when he heard crying — crying that sounded far too familiar. when he turned to see his youngest sister a mess, shortly followed by spiderpaw and beepaw, his stomach dropped. then in came sandslash... and his father's limp body. everything in him told him to burst out in screams and tears. but he couldn't. he had to stay calm — to keep his family reassured that everything was fine even though it wasn't. this was roachpaw's first loss in his life that hurt him the most; their time together felt too short to him, and moth-heart never got to see his siblings and him receive their warrior names...

warriorhood [ 12 - 43 moons ] >
    roachheart earned his name, proud but empty inside. he gave everyone a fake smile and told them he was fine when they would ask how he's doing. the tom felt like he could only blame himself for not being in the battle to stop his father from taking such a risk despite knowing he would do the same. what if he had been there to save him? it felt as though he might never forgive himself at this point.
   slowly, he learned to heal and forgive himself. being given flypaw might have helped push him further to healing, but with mantisdawn catching greencough soon after... the tom felt horrible for moping around like he did when the molly died...
   sandstar dissappeared, leaving the clan in disarray and seaheart, the deputy, became acting leader. despite his ties to sandstar in his family, he was never overly fond of him. though it felt like his duty to find the ginger tom. he ended up remaining ambivalent and not going out of his way to help search for him. roachheart instead focused on training his apprentice and giving her the best training he could...
   just before his apprentice, flypaw, could become a full-fledged warrior, sandstar returned. he was injured but at least he was found? the clan seemed to have had mixed feelings as he began to throw accusations around and only part of them being true. he killed a cat! right in front of the whole clan! traitor or not, sandstar seemed almost crazy in roachheart's eyes. then with each slow passing moon, the more and more sandstar began to feel like a tyrant to him. even his sister's friend, stoatshell, was beginning to feel even more unsafe than he already was.
   and yet despite the news of blizzardfang's death traveling fast amongst the clans, somehow roachheart wasn't feeling relieved quite yet. right was that gut feeling he had because only two moons later were the crystal falls attacked, and again, news spread like a wildfire. the stars didn't seem to be letting up on at least marshclan. they threw a bobcat at them too! it ended up killing sandstar, taking his last life and putting seaheart into the seat of leadership solidly and earning her name of seastar.

deputyship [ 43 - 48 moons ] >
    much to roachheart's surprise, he was chosen to be the molly's deputy. why? at first he questioned it. was he truly qualified to be marshclan's deputy? was he ready for the responsibilities that would come with this role? honestly, nobody could be sure this early. to him, questioning the position and himself was better than to be overly confident. he then continued to spend the next few moons familiarizing himself with his duties and with his future duties, even if it wouldn't happen for many more moons.

leadership [ 48 - present moons ] >
    or so he thought. with only 6 moons of experience as deputy, seastar died saving a kit that fell through ice. roachheart was rendered speechless when the news returned to him... and he saw the body of his dear leader and somewhat mentor for a while. the tom felt unsure once again — but he knew he couldn't let it show. he had to be strong for his clan, especially in the absence of starclan. donning the name of roachstar, he vowed to himself and to the stars in silence that he would do the best he could for marshclan.
