The Network

THE UNIVERSAL NETWORK OF PLANETS

"CONNECTING THE INTELLIGENT UNIVERSE"

The Universal Network of Planets, often shortened to "The Network", is a governing conglomerate organization that dictates diplomacy, exploration, and business throughout the mapped universe.

PUBLIC AGENDA

The Network's surface goal is "To connect the intelligent universe in a symbiotic relationship in order to connect resources and expand." The organization holds a strong public presence in the universe, citing itself as the glue that holds it together through technology and commerce. By choosing the join The Network, a race is promised a spot in "The Universal Community" and access to all its perks and advantages...in exchange for its own perks of course. Those who join The Network become branches of the organization and must identify themselves as Network affiliated. The seal of The Network is promised as one of honor and advanced intelligence, but some see it as a sign of control...

STRUCTURE

Supreme Leading Executive or "CEO" of The Network: Head of business, decisions, finances, and "The Face" of the organization. Every major action goes through the CEO and all action must be approved before it can be advanced. Comes up with most of The Network's ideas and responsible for its actions. 

Network Headquarters: The Unity Massive space station that acts as the hub for Network activity. Works as a business vessel as well as a colony, housing an advanced city of workers and civilians. All major branches of The Network operate from The Unity as well as all upper-level management and executives. Also houses massive reserves of low-ranking employees. 

Network Ports: Stations scattered throughout Network-occupied space that act as mini-hubs for Network business. Houses employees and civilians, often being seen as space-faring cities. 

Network Occupied Planets: Exoplanets, planetoids, and moons acknowledged by The Network and containing Network-approved business. Typically mining, foresting, manufacturing, harvesting, or "intelligent labor". Occupied by Network employees or native races with the two often overlapping.

ASSETS

The Network is unimaginably wealthy in resources, its most valuable being technology. The Network absorbs all technological knowledge of the races it "recruits", so the powers of space-time manipulation and intergalactic travel all belong to them. Of course The Network also has unfathomable amounts of natural resources collected from "affiliated planets", ranging from carbon to gold to dark matter. The most visible resource The Network owns is it's numbers. Most members of the known universe are some kind of Network employee, with 98% of universal activity being linked to them in some way. The massive workforce The Network has leaves them with the largest gathering of intelligent life in the known universe.

HISTORY

The true creation of The Network is kept a secret, much to the suspicions of those who work under it. Rumors swirl across the galaxies why that is, but no concrete theory has ever been agreed upon. The Network itself is no secret run by a singular race, known informally as "The Greys". The Network CEO is in fact of the same race, but a highly evolved form who has been adapted to be more artificial than organic. It is unknown if the current CEO has always been supreme leading executive or if there were others before, but no one would be surprised if they were there for the organization's founding and had something to do with The Network's massive Grey presence.
