Eitur Ravness (Background story)

Eitipie

Profile

Eitur was born somewhere on the Steppes, he doesn't remember if he's from any of the tribes or not. He was still small when Garleans attacked. Mainly the slave traders. Looking to either kill any "savage" or catch whoever looks strong enough to make a good show in the colisseum. Eitur's parents tried to fight and run away but they were also killed. Before they died they prayed to the gods so that at least their child would survive. So gods granted their wish and changed Eitur into a hyur. Eitur lost his memory from everything that happened earlier tha that, including his real name so he just named himself Eitur, it sounded nice to him. The oldest thing he remembers is traveling with merchants to the western side of the continent, to Eorzea. Those merchants weren't as kind as they seemed first and left Eitur alone on the fields of La Noscea. From there he wandered and finally managed to get to Limsa Lominsa, where he lived for quite a long time. He was just a child, didn't knew anyone or anything in this city so he lived on what he managed to steal, sometimes he got caught and beaten for trying to steal from merchants. What he hated the most wa the fact that refugees got everything for free. They came from the north, from the east, even from the far, far east side of the continet. And they instsntly get free shelter from the city. Outsiders and not him, when he was the one starving and living in this city for years. At one day he tried to steal food from someone from the rogues guild. Boy had some talent and lacked a place to call home so the guildmaster decided to take him in and teach him, give him some "honest" work that could pay off and try to at least keep an eye on the small thief. Eitur didn't liked the rules very much but he agreed to at least try to be a proper member of the guild, though he still preferred to use a sword to fight head on, rather than daggers.

Years passed, Eitur has grown up, guildmaster changed, guild members came and disappeared. One day on La Nocean plains Eitur came across an interesting sight. A mysterious man in armor with foreign ornaments, fighting alone with a whole pack of coeurls. Eitur looked curiously at him, because that man definitely used magic or something. But it didn't looked like chanting the magic verses of arcanists or thaumaturges and yet he was doing something more than just swinging his sword around. The man took care of the coeurls and without turning around asked Eitur how long is he going to stand there and stare. So Eitur came out of hiding and started asking a lot of questions about that fighting style, about coeurls, about this weird magic. He didn't get a lot of answers as the man just sighed and walked back to his camp, but Eitur followed him, still asking. He managed to find out that the man will stay here for some time because he's looking for someone. So Eitur decided he will pay him a lot of visits to get his answers, because he wasn't that curious about something since ages. Maybe because Eitur had some talent or maybe just because he was too annoying to deal with the armored man decided that he will show Eitur some of his arts and maybe even teach him a little bit. Of course Eitur agreed happily and absorbed every word like a sponge. And of course he agreed not to use the knowledge with evil intentions, standard stuff. Okay, he agreed, what next? what more? he wants to get more, he wants to know more. Eitur was more than happy with that, he felt a lot stronger compared to year ago, knowing "magic" that even enhanced his physical strength. And yes, he agreed to be careful too, but he was too happy to even remember about that warning... ehen he reached deeper he got more power, so whst could be bad about that. and one day during a tough battle, when a voidsent suddenly appeared and attacked, Eitur felt too weak. So he tried to reach deeper to the magic source to get more power. Deeper and deeper, he wanted more and couldn't reach it. And suddenly he felt like something grabbed him and pulled underwater. He got scared. He got a feeling that this magic is not really magic per se and he felt that it is... counscious? He heared a voice in his head, but this voice didn't really had any sound, it was more like a feeling - he was too greedy and he will get his lesson. Does he remember who he hated the most? He will be surprised... for he is really one of them... Then he lost consciousnes.

Eitur woke up on a small boat washed on the shore of La Noscea. He felt like he just had the worst headache in his entire life, but when he tried to rub his face his hand didn't reached it. It stopped on a horn, he poked his hand with it. He panicked as he noticed he looks like an Au Ra. Eitur jumped out of the boat and ran to the water. His reflection in the water looked back at him. He has seen some similarities, he still has the same hair, although a bit grayed out, the same eyes, maybe also similar face? It was hard for him to tell because of the scales on his face. He felt something weird in his chest and panicked again. He decided he will try to get back to the city. When he travelled he passed the same spot where, if he remembered correctly, the armored man made his camp. But this place was now empty, not even a sight of a cut off grass, not even a trace of a campfire, nothing happened here. He had another small panic attack and got back to the city as quickly as he could. Of course no one recognised him, he was a rugged Au Ra, not a hyur. There Eitur noticed that all of those "stupid lizard refugees", as he called them years ago, don't really get everything from the city for free plus there are quite a few people in the city who would be more than happy if the city just closed its gates for every outsider.

Eitur ran away and hid in the docks, not sure what should he even do now. Then after some time someone suddenly approached and called his name. Eitur ws surprised that someone called him like thst when he doesn't really look like himself anymore. Turns out it was a miqo'te girl fr the guild. She recognised Eitur because he used to sit here in this same place quite often, either eating, reading, playing with a knife or sleeping. Also she heard Eitur spitting the same swears as usual when he got angry. They talked for a bit and then the miqo girl took Eitur back to the guild with her. After a lot of explanations, yelling and scolding Eitur was welcomed back at the guild, but this time he promised he will really try to listen to the rules.

Barely few days have passed when Eitur came across a caravan, when he travelled to the forests of the Shroud. They were being attacked by small voidsents so Eitur quickly ran to help them and easly defeated all of the attackers. It was a small caravan, mostly with Auri merchants with few warriors. He was told they came here all the way from Othard, running away from the expanding Garlean Empire. They took a boat to Thavnair, and from there to the eastern shores of Eorzea. A lot of them apparently died during that travel, mostly in Othard, killed by Garleans. They were thankful to Eitur for saving them from voidsents and offered him a place to sleep in the night and a bowl of warm food. Eitur agreed with a smile and offered back to also help with the wagons, as they were damaged in the attack. After a full day of work Eitur finally sat down near the fire, with hot food in his hands. Travellers had some questions to him of course - did he also ran away from the Steppes? Where is he working here in Eorzea? Do they hate Au Ra? From which tribe is Eitur? He managed to answer most of those questions but for the "where were you born" part he just shrugged as he himself doesn't even know. In the morning Eitur decided he will travel together with the caravan to protect it, as the Shroud was quite full of voidsents compared to the other regions, plus dense trees made it harder to navigate. When the time has come to finally say goodbye Eitur was approached by a small Auri grandma. She was very thankful for helping them and for protecting them all the way to Gridania. Then she handed Eitur a sword wrapped in a cloth. It belonged to her grandson who gave his life to protect his friends and family, when they all traveled through Othard. Eitur reminded her of him so she decided it would be the best for Eitur to be the new owner. Eitur didn't know what to say and tried to talk his way out of it, because nah, he doesn't see himself as  as good person as her grandson, but the Auri grandma just smiled and almost forced Eitur to take it. It had a clearly far eastern design and ornaments, but it was rather simple, nothing flashy. The blade was curved and widened towards the tip so Eitur had to learn a different way of swordfight compared to what he knew up to this point. He decided he will keep the sword and never throw it away.

Eitur basically started a new life after that changing to an Au Ra incident, most noticeably he is now less of an asshole, at least on the first sight. He tries to be more helpful and be less of a jerk than before to make up for those bad decisions that he has made few times. He managed to learn that he wasn't born as a Hyur, and that this change was only temporary but he has no idea why that happened and who did this. Now he's better at controlling the dark arts, compared to the accident that happened few years earlier, but he still sometimes gets that weird feeling in his chest and left arm like if it tried to move by its own. With this he gets reminded that that thing isn't a tool but also has a mind of its own. Eitur took great care of the sword that he got from the Auri grandma, even payed for enchanting it so it will withstand attacks powered by magic. He even found a way to "attach" the sword to him, using his arts, so he is able to summon it directly in his hands.
