Cauldron Boil "Cauldron"

Male kenku evocer/ alchemist; Wizard’s servant or apprentice; chaotic neutral
I keep wanting to make dual classing kenku…...

Background Idea 1:

The mistreated servant of a knowledgeable elven wizard; inspired by the more roguish tendencies of his people he betrayed his master and stole some of her effects, perhaps including a tome containing her life’s research- some potent arcane knowledge. This could have been done by means of poison or purposefully tampering with one of her spells/ alchemy projects to create an opening.

He flees having stolen some materials, spellbooks, her arcane focus maybe, now fueled by a desire to become a wizard himself and break the curses laid upon his people; it was in part due to those curses that he remained under her service for so long, and now those curses hamper his arcane potential.

Background Idea 2:

A mere wizard’s apprentice desiring more in life; he left on a quest to break the kenku curses, believing that only with them lifted can he unlock his true potential as a wizard.

He leaves, taking what he needs to hone his craft. But the curses laid upon his people hampers his potential; they must be broken in order for him to be successful.

Background Elaborations:

Elf wizard possibly had some other servants. Perhaps she promised arcane knowledge to Cauldron and in his naivete and lack of creativity he believed her; or, perhaps anything is better than resorting to thievery… plus, he’d be pretty bad at it.

Possibly wanted dead or alive by that wizard; a slong as she gets her shit back. Thus, forced to keep a low profile in some places...

Class and stats

Wizard: Evocation (Primary) He’s here to deal some damage and get the Fly spell.

Artificer: Alchemist? (Secondary) (Up to 4th level?)

Grants tool proficiencies (Yay)
Item crafting (2nd lv)
Hell yeah potion brewing!

Could just wrap the alchemy bit into the background, maybe DM can be generous and let him have alchemy tools due to it. Swap a language for a tool kit?? Seems pretty fair. (Alchemist’s Supplies) It’d be easier than the multi classing...

Int> Con> Wis> Dex> Cha> Str?
Int> Con> Wis> Cha> Dex> Str?

Background: Sage: Wizard’s apprentice/ alchemist

Equipment:

Stolen spellbook….? That’d be nifty. Even if he has a hard time actually copying from the thing. Otherwise, his own crude note collection or a gift from his mentor.

Staff as an arcane focus. May or may not be stolen.

Personality and quirks:

Desires nothing more than to undo the kenku curses and gain knowledge and power. These curses- the very kenku condition!- is a horrible restriction that is directly responsible for ‘his’ people being nothing more than thieves and servants. He will break free of these bindings; he must!

Unlike Song who tried to work around the curses with a near-creative determination and care free naivete, Cauldron believes that they must be broken completely. He can’t “work around it;” he won’t even humor the idea. He is bound to this affliction and knows well what he can and cannot do; he accepts that fact rather than confronts and challenges it. Whereas Song would still TRY to tell stories and sing songs with her limitations, Cauldron would outright admit that he can’t and would hardly try, because why even bother. He isn’t creative so couldn’t possibly make sense of flowery writing or create his own spells or continue his ex-master’s project. That’s why he has to break the curses.

Pessimistic, cynical, short tempered, kind of arrogant, fake confidence, ‘not my fucking job’ kinda attitude, pretty selfish, like to feign bravery but will back down in a pinch, grumpy, more than willing to explain WHY he’s so grumpy all the time; his background and curses. Prefers brute force spells than tactical spells,

Like to try to boss around the elf’s other servants, if she had some; tries to get away with yelling at them, dishing out some orders, perhaps just taking out some frustrations on those who may not stand up to him. This falls apart when someone doesn’t give a shit about him, however. Fake confidence. Wants to be in charge but doesn’t understand leadership, so tries to lead via power or knowledge or intimidation; he’ll be in for a rude awakening. Hell, this is sort of mimicry of his ex-master, in a way.

Dislikes rouges and isn’t a fan of kenku… despite the fact that he stole from his ex-master and IS a kenku. Will probably assume that a kenku he comes across is a rouge… despite himself not being a rouge. Will get salty if someone points that out to him, and would be very upset if someone called HIM a rouge!

Doesn’t talk much, and if he does, he chooses his words very carefully to make a half decent sentence. Hates having to use other people’s voices, and probably resorts to using his master’s voice fairly often. Because of this he probably takes his time to reply to people and can come off as reserved since he avoids dialogue. Would be fascinated by telepathy if he came across it.

Probably used to being referred to as “You,” “Kenku,” “Bird.” Will introduce himself as “Cauldron” for simplicity's sake, always.

He’d be the sort to tell a kenku bard to just give up. Asshole.

Could probably benefit from having friends, honestly.

“It comes as no surprise that most kenku end up either in a life of thievery or servitude. Lacking creativity, they often are incapable of finding another option. It would be easy to fall in line under the service of someone else, and lacking a voice of their own, easier still to look to someone to speak in their place.”

“Nothing I say will ever be truly my own. And even if my words were my own, there would be nothing new to them, nothing creative. So what’s the point.” (Explaining his quiet nature to a party member.)

Trait [Criminal]: I blow up at the slightest insult.

Ideal [Sage]: Knowledge. The path to power and self-improvement is through knowledge. (Neutral)

Ideal [Sage]: No Limits. Nothing should fetter the infinite possibility inherent in all existence. (Chaotic)

Ideal [Sage]: Power. Knowledge is the path to power and domination. (Evil)

Bond [improvised]: Break curses, seek power, stole shit from a wizard and now they’re pissed…

Bond [Urchin]: *I escaped my life of poverty by robbing an important person, and I'm wanted for it.

Flaw [Sage]: I am easily distracted by the promise of information.

Flaw [Sage]: Unlocking an ancient mystery is worth the price of a civilization.

Appearance:

Tries very hard to look like a stereotypical wizard to the point that it’s kind of silly. He refuses to be mistaken for anything but a wizard. Therefore; Silly wizard hat, robe, and staff. Generally just over the top by design.

Blueish feathers (So I can use navy sharpie instead of black), striking emerald colored eyes.

May or may not have been subject to some alchemical/ arcane mishaps; results in some visible burns?

Optional cloak and less wizardy attire for if he needs to try to not get himself caught by his ex-master, possibly.

Attire possibly stolen. Willing to pay good money for better attire; actually cares what he looks like.

Looking at spells: (Start with six, +2 per lvel, 4-5 prepared at start)

Firebolt, mending, prestidigitation,

Featherfall, find familiar, magic missile, burning hands, shield, sleep, mage armor

Alter self, misty step, levitate, scorching ray, shatter

Bestow curse, counterspell, fly, lightning bolt, sleet storm

Has all intentions of being the dude that fucks other dudes up; evocation, aoe; control over the fight. Control by sheer power.
