How The Shepard came to The Void is unknown to them, which is not uncommon. Before he took a physical form, the movement to protect blank beings touched him deeply, and lead to him taking this form. He knows little of The Void, but he knows he has a strong compulsion to protect the more vulnerable Beings until they can form natrually, like he did. All he wants is to be what he calls himself... a shepherd, and to guide those who need the direction, and keep his flock safe.
