Profile

Frida Winterspear is a female arctic wolf born in 274 ADD in the hidden frozen kingdom of Auravalle. When she was 18, she lost her left eye in a raid from the nearby tribe of Polaris in their attempt to capture Daymian Auravalle the Drekloga. She would eventually become the highest ranking member of the Fryst Vorna, the Auravallen royal guard.

Personality

Frida is a very honorable and reserved wolf who prefers to take issues into her own paws rather than risk putting those she's sworn to protect in danger. She tends to wait to formulate a plan rather than jumping into action, believing every second is valuable and cannot be wasted on mistakes. She is headstrong and determined, though her introverted nature often leaves her insecure about interacting with people, so there are not many she is close with. Because of this, she can be too overprotective at times, as she does not want to risk a world where she has no one left.

Abilities

Frida is trained in combat by the Auravallen Fryst Vorna, and knows a variety of unarmed techniques as well as how to wield swords and spears.

Being from a region dominated my snowy mountains, she is an experienced mountaineer and can successfully traverse ice and other treacherous terrain.

She is a master strategist, and has developed many plans of defense should Auravalle ever come under attack.

She is an Ice Elemental, allowing her the power to create ice spikes, snowstorms, ice walls, and freeze bodies of water. She often channels her Ice magic through her Staffspear.

Design

Frida has mainly royal blue fur, with white fur beginning at her snout and running down her belly towards her rear until ending at the underside of her tail. Her paws and ears are also white. Bordering between her white and blue fur is a thin layer of black fur. She has fluffy black hair that tufts over her forehead and runs down her back, ending at her shoulder blades. Her right eye is indigo, whereas her left is a pale cyan due to her blindness in that eye. A pink scar runs over her left eye, and a similar notch is cut into her left ear. The interiors of her ears are periwinkle.

Attire

Frida's standard outfit consists of a blue-gray tunic and pants. A tight blue short robe with white highlights and a darker blue tech pattern covers her tunic, strapped together with a carbon belt. She wears similar carbon bracers on her wrists and thighs as well as shoulder pads. Layered silver plating is strapped over her knees. Around her heels are cotton and leather warmers. A long royal blue cloak symbolic of the Commander of the Auravallen guard trails behind her, attached around her collar with a silver clasp.

Story

Early Life

Frida was born in the kingdom of Auravalle in the Distant North to Marak and Aila Winterspear. When she was only a year old, the egg of the Drekloga, the Last Dragon, which Auravalle had protected in secrecy for 300 years, had finally hatched. The Drekloga was then given to Marak to raise, as he was the Commander of the Fryst Vorna, the Auravallen royal guard, and would be the one most capable of protecting him as he grew up. As a result, Frida and the Drekloga, who'd been given the name Daymian, were raised as siblings. But when Frida was six years old, word of Daymian's existence began to become more commonplace in Auravalle, running the risk of exposing him to the rest of the world. As a result, Aila was tasked by the kingdom to accompany merchants traveling throughout the northern ocean to ensure Daymian was kept secret from the nomads and other kingdoms of the Distant North. And while on one such trip, she never returned.

Frida spent much of her life raised by the palace guards while her father was out on missions to protect Auravalle from the neighboring kingdom of Polaris. As a result, she never got very close with anyone other than Daymian, who was being groomed to be Auravalle's new symbol of hope for Concentra. And at his thirteenth birthday, Frida stood by his side as he announced he was taking the name Auravalle to honor the kingdom that had protected him. Frida was now 14, and was soon enlisted in the Fryst Vorna training program, where she would be trained to eventually become an official guard in the Auravallen army. She spent four years learning how to properly use weapons and develop battle strategies to protect the kingdom, and her instructors were surprised to see her excel over anyone else in her class, recommending her to the kingdom as a skillful guard once she had come of age.

The First Siege

Frida was 18 years old when she was admitted to join the Fryst Vorna under her father's command. She was excited to prove herself in battle, and her skills were soon put to the test when Polaris launched a siege against Auravalle in search of the fabled Drekloga, which had spread as a legend in recent years throughout the Distant North. Auravalle put up a defense, sending the Fryst Vorna outside the kingdom gates to meet the Polari army, with Frida positioned in the rear of her division. The battle was intense, and after a while it became apparent to Auravalle that Polaris would soon overpower their army. Marak called a retreat of the surviving Auravallens back to the safety of the gates, but Frida was caught in the rush of guards and was knocked into the snow. Soon she found herself alone, facing the military leader of Polaris, a polar bear named Sila Koldear. The thought of anyone harming Daymian fueled Frida to action, attempting to kill Sila with her spear, but the bear was too fast for her, and sliced through Frida's left eye and ear with her sword.

As she lied in the snow clutching her eye, the Polari army stormed past her. Still unwilling to give up, Frida suddenly felt a power growing inside her. Her Elemental Ice powers were then awakened, allowing her to create a massive snowstorm that surrounded the bears before wiping them out of the valley. Soon after, she was rescued by Marak and brought in for medical treatment. And while her injuries were non-life threatening, she would be permanently blind in her left eye. She was given several months to recover, but adjusting to life without depth perception was difficult. Even more confusing was her newly found Ice powers. No one else in the kingdom had access to Elemental magic, so she was forced to learn on her own, practicing different spells and techniques in the courtyards of Fryst Castle.

A Time of Peace

After she had healed, Frida dedicated herself to the guard, learning how to hone her skills in battle with the Ice techniques she'd developed. Quickly, she rose through the ranks, her supervisors considering her Elemental powers to be a great asset when war would inevitably return to the kingdom. During this time she did not get many opportunities to spend time with Daymian, as their schedules rarely lined up. She told herself her duty to Auravalle had to be her top priority, though it didn't stop her from missing him. Marak was very proud of her, and as the years went on his age began to catch up with him. Finally, when Frida was 24 years old, he stepped down from his position as Commander of the Fryst Vorna. By unanimous decision from the elites of the kingdom, Frida was approved to be Marak's successor, becoming the youngest Commander in Auravalle's history. As Commander, she was assigned to be the personal bodyguard of the Drekloga, a position which greatly excited her. And for the next two years, Frida's position allowed her to attend all of Daymian's government meetings. There, she learned tensions between Auravalle and Polaris were rising once again, and they knew it wouldn't be long before the kingdoms clashed.

The Second Siege

Frida and Daymian were training in the courtyards of Fryst Castle one morning when Polari forces arrived at the gates, this time with much greater numbers than the army from eight years before. Frida wasted no time in deploying the Fryst Vorna to defend, but they were vastly outmatched, and soon the bears were approaching the entrance to the castle. With Daymian still hidden from the outside world, Frida could not join the battle without risking him, and was forced to retreat with him into the catacombs beneath the castle. Eventually, they were able to escape outside the kingdom limits, though the rest of Auravalle soon fell under Polari control after the royal family was captured. With no access to the rest of the guard, Frida and Daymian were alone as they trekked through the icy cliffs of the Distant North.

One morning a few days after the siege, Frida went scouting by herself for a way to hide Daymian until they could figure out a way to liberate the kingdom. While she was out, she was soon met by a bounty huntress, a cow named Blizzard Snowgrazer, who'd been hired by her father to get Frida to safety. Blizzard showed her a Polari langskip that would allow them to escape but, not wanting to abandon Daymian, Frida refused, knowing she couldn't go with Blizzard without revealing his existence to her. Back at their camp, Daymian revealed that he'd returned to Auravalle in secret while she was away, learning that Marak had told the truth about his existence to Sila in exchange for the bears to cease torture of the Auravallens. With no other options, Frida then decided she would need to kill Sila in order to free the kingdom, though she knew it would probably end in her own death. The next day, she and Daymian returned to the langskip, where she was injured in a battle against the troop of Polari soldiers stationed on the ship. But before she was killed, Blizzard intervened, and together Daymian and the huntress were able to care for her aboard the langskip. With her injuries too severe to allow her to keep fighting, Daymian announced he would take her place in facing Sila. Reluctantly, Frida realized he was right, and soon Daymian flew off, leaving her alone with Blizzard. By the time they sailed into Auravalle, the Polari had already cleared out of the kingdom. Reuniting with her father, Marak revealed Daymian had turned himself in to Sila, offering to go with her back to Polaris if she let the kingdom go free. And though she was deeply saddened that he was gone, Frida knew Daymian had made the right choice.

A New Strength

Six months had passed since the siege, and Frida's mind had finally been put at peace regarding her life without Daymian. She had spent the time healing and helping Auravalle recover from the attack, promoting better relations with each other in order to build support systems so that no one would ever have to feel the loneliness that she had. One day Blizzard contacted her, and soon she arrived with an arctic fox named Cerulean Azura. The cow revealed that, like Frida, Cerulean too was an Ice Elemental, though he had only unlocked his powers a little over a year earlier and was still inexperienced in how to control them. With some reasoning, Blizzard convinced Frida to take the fox on as her apprentice since she no longer trained Daymian and would have the time to teach him.

For the better part of the year, Frida and Cerulean trained together in developing Cerulean's Ice powers. And while they bonded over the rarity of their powers, Frida still kept Daymian in the back of her mind, knowing that someday she would need to bring him home. And it wasn't too long later when news traveled to Auravalle that Polaris was getting ready to reveal themselves to the rest of the world, with Daymian as their claim to status within the greater scope of Concentrian politics. Knowing it would be a disaster for the Distant North, Frida realized it was urgent that she rescue Daymian right away. Believing her and Cerulean's powers to be strong enough to face Sila, Frida contacted Blizzard, and together they planned something never before attempted in Auravallen history: the infiltration of Polaris.
