Tragic to the core of his stone black heart, Onyx encountered the worst luck, or failure one could endure as a fae creature. It was one thing to play tricksies on humans, but if ever a child were in danger, it was instinctual to try and save the innocent at any cost. A frequenter of a old mining town, Onyx spent his time hiding tools or pulling pranks on the adults that had gone too far down into the depths below, causing instability in the lower caverns.
A curious child, no bigger than 7, decided to explore and the deeper she went, the more lost she became. Eventually she encountered Onyx, who caught by surprise never seeing a child down below before, froze instead of disappearing. The young girls shocked scream caused a cave in, in which the Menta tried desperately to shield her from. The pressure eventually prove too much, and a split second of hesitation caused the stones to slam to the ground, leaving Onyx on the brink of death, and the girls hair ribbon clutched between his fingers.
To this day, Onyx has cursed himself to the depths, seeking only the shadows and the tomb where he failed. His constant replay on if the hesitation was the cause for the fall, or if they were both doomed if he hadn't... or if he had expended the rest of his magen to meet his end, would the girl have lived?
Deeper he crawls, trying with all of his might to have the earth crush every sense of feeling he has left as he revels in his own misery. A token of his failure, he refuses to remove the red ribbon, lest he ever forget.
