She was originally created to be a vessel on which to transfer curses and then be sacrificed. Upon learning of her eventual fate, she ran away, but not before receiving curses that make her weak in sunlight, transform at night, and gives her a craving for human flesh; so basically some kind of vampire/ghoul. She usually goes for dead bodies as she figures it's better to do that than to go after people who are still alive.

She somehow stumbled upon Mordan's castle, which he was getting ready to allow people to rent some of the rooms after most of his relatives moved out. There was a note about tenants having to agree to tolerate "monsters" and was curious if that meant monsters could move in too. They can. She didn't have any money, so she agreed to work as a maid since he was looking to hire one anyway.
