Nicki grew up in an Upper Middle class family in a town neighboring Anthra's capital. From a young age, she idolized Princess Ember to the point of obsession, always picking out news articles about the Queen-to-be, watching every telecast that aired on their local news, absorbing every sliver of gossip she could gather coming out of the capital. Hell, she could even brag she had been childhood friends with the Princess's Brother.... Well before he ran away and was disowned by the Queen.

One day, Queen Cynder proposed a gathering of the finest noble male servants to be sent to the castle. as she wanted to pick out the best to be in charge of maintaining the Princess's chambers. The added bonus of being able to "meet" the princess sent Nicki's brain into overdrive with an idea. She could pose as a male servant... just so she could get close to the object of her affections this one time.

She posed under a new name... Cole Xiao, pulling off a rather convincing male steward due to her small size and knowledge of how they were supposed to do their jobs considering her own home had a servant staff of it's own she chatted with on occasion.

Her plan of just meeting the princess and ducking out of the queen's "contest" backfired... immensely. The Queen immediately attached herself to the surprised Cole, impressed by "him" the most out of all the stewards, despite trying not to be incredibly noticeable. The conniving Queen revealed she hadn't been looking for a steward... but a suitor.

Before Nicki, now known as Cole, realized it, she had been betrothed to Princess Ember. Cole now had a problem. One does not simply disobey the queen's orders, much less reveal to her that you lied. Cole is now trapped having to pose as a nobleman in the Queen's court, less she face a punishment fitting of lying to her tyrannical Queen...
