About:

A wind spirit that distrusts mortals. Leolin is an abrasive, brittle sort. He is antagonistic towards strangers, especially those who arent spirits for reasons he won't disclose, citing only 'destructiveness' as a fault. He is prickly and sarcastic and generally unpleasant to be around, but Leolin shows a different side to those who earn his trust. He is more friendly, gentle, and forgiving with friends. Sometimes his kindness is shown even to strangers. However, as hard as it is to earn his trust, it is conversely very easy to lose it again. The smallest sign of betrayal can set him off (he needs therapy...).

Lives in a shrine isolated on the top of a storm-beset mountain. Only explorers and the desperate come his way, though they do not seek him. If they can give him a reason for it, Leolin may provide respite.

History:

Born out of a silver lining on an overcast, stormy day, Leolin inherited his turbulent personality from the very weather. The little bird spirit wandered in the uninhabited wilds for some time before being taken in by a wolven spirit who lived on the edge of a mortal village. The wolf was kind and patient, and passed on his lessons onto Leolin despite his fussy young self. But the one thing Leolin couldn't get was why the wolf was so kind to the mortals he lived near, despite how scared and violent they would get in the face of something they feared- like the wolf. As Leolin grew older and even more furious, a rift opened up between himself and his parent over the matter of the mortals. Leolin though that they would be the wolf's end, whereas the wolf chose to trust them despite their flaws.

Perhaps in another life Leolin would've mellowed out and seen the wolf's point, but he was not so fortunate in this one. One day when Leolin was away, the wolf took in a wandering spirit- as he is ought to do frequently. What he didn't realize was that the spirit had killed several in a village over, and planned on doing the same here. The villagers rallied at the wolf's shrine before it could do so. They chased the spirit away, but blamed the wolf for bringing it in, and in the head of the moment the mob descended upon the wolf and killed him. Leolin returned to find his parent strung up on spears and sealed away. In his rage, Leolin cast a storm upon the village, destroying the houses of the villagers as they destroyed his own. Before he could kill them all, the wolf's last words floated to him on the wind, begging him to find enough forgiveness to spare them. Leolin conceded, but his heart was bitter and cold now, and his view of the mortals cemented.

Relations:

  • Fuyu - A quiet sea spirit with which Leolin is friends with. She met Leolin once while investigating the cause of a seemingly endless  storm that was tormenting a couple of fishing villages, which he ended up being the cause of. After convincing him to relent his anger towards the villages for disrespecting a shrine near his mountain, Leolin grew to begrudgingly respect Fuyu, even if he disagreed with her on the topic of mortals. They have met several times afterwards, and now Fuyu can  call upon him at any time and Leolin shall appear with the swiftness of a breeze. Fuyu's perseverance in the search for the truth of a mystery entertains Leolin, though he gets angry on her behalf whenever she is patient with those who get in her way or disrespect her. Some part of him envies that side of her.
