Species : Kitsune

- In Japanese folklore, youkai kitsune (妖狐, "Youko") are believed to possess great intelligence, long life, and magical powers. One of the more notable features of the kitsune are their numerous tails; they may possess as many as nine. The more tails a kitsune has, the older and more powerful he or she is, for every one hundred years they live, another tail grows. Once they have lived for eight hundred years they will have nine tails, one of them the one they were born with, and the other eight grown through the ages. A kitsune's greatest power is that of illusion; they are able to trick a human into seeing almost anything. Because of this ability, they are regarded as playful tricksters in many stories.

Some legends say that once a person has won the trust of a kitsune, it will be difficult for others to convince that kitsune otherwise. They are extremely loyal to those they trust, and would often do anything for those people. ( from the Touhou wiki )

♦storytime  ――――――――――――

Nemuno starting building a little shrine on Youkai Moutain but soon realized she needed someone to occupied the space and care for the building in her place sense she had no intention of staying there long term. She knew it wouldn't be easy to find some one to agree to live in the shrine. Until one day she came across a small Kitsune child who looked like he was alone she took the chance offered to her and adopted the boy. She took the childs Hoshi no Tama and using its power had Yonhiko go with her to stay in the shrine but the Hoshi no Tama ball made it so Yonhiko couldn't leave the shrine building at all! Nemuno felt guilty this had happened but despite efforts Yonhiko was stuck. Nemuno and Yonhiko got to know each other and became close as if they were really parent and child Nemuno taught Yonhiko what she could  but eventually she had to go home though leaving the young Kitsune to fend for himself after giving the tengu  living near by instructions to look after him. She came back as often as she could to visit him. When Yonhiko was older he took Nemuno's surname it was an emotional day.

♦Trivia ―――――――――――――――

- Yonhiko's shrine is a relatively small building witch on the outside looks like a normal small shrine with two stone kitsune guardians outside I guess it functions as a shrine to a very small extent. On the inside it is more like a traditional Japanese home split into two rooms with a shoji screen door one room for a small kitchen, bathroom and other necessities and the other has a Kotatsu in the middle  and is more of a space for relaxing . His shrine has no other buildings or other shrine spaces accompanying the one building unlike most shrines.

- yonhiko having to sweep out his house regularly because the Tengu keep leaving piles of feathers everywhere from using his house as a perch

- Likes Momiji a lot because they are both doggo

-  Brushes his tails pretty regularly

- Nemuno made Yonhiko's shrine

- Can play the Shamisen really well

-  Doesn't know very much about the world outside his shrine

- Cannot read

-  In the winter Yonhiko sleeps curled up with his tails wrapped around him, His Kitsune-bi around for warmth

- Yonhiko likes to go to the Otherworld to have tea with the Tea Club

- "In Gensokyo at least, the yamanba don't actually [eat children] despite being commonly believed to. Instead they raise lost kids to the best of their abilities" Nemuno is  Yonhiko's adopted mother this is canon now

- He favors bullets that look like fire, and his patterns make him move around a lot making him hard to hit at times.

- He never has normal colored fire due to his  kitsune-bi ( fox fire) its blue

- Nemuno and Yonhiko has a long standing Shogi game in Yonhiko's shrine witch has lasted months. Yonhiko tried to teach Cirno shogi but she keeps freezing his pieces and claiming that's a victory

- Nemuno braids his hair for special occasions. She never goes to festivals herself but appreciates that Yonhiko wants to be social

- He had to grow into his ears  when he was a child and into his preteens  they were over sized

-  "My name is Yonhiko Sakata" "You don't have to take my surname" "I want to mom!" " QuQ"

- By the time of Kusekai Yonhiko has a hand fan and Japanese drawstring bag tied to his wast he uses to carry his Hoshi no Tama in along with a new outfit and hair tie
