Names and other info:

- Adoptive moms: Aseris, a half-elf backsmith from Valosana, and Desana, a half-elf enchanter

- Birth parents: Shrill and Creak

- Homeland: The Badlands, Valosana

Backstory:

- Chitter was born to a flock of Kenku that made itself home in the badlands between two nations, the high-elven kingdom of Elastre to the north and the nation of Valosana to the south. These badlands were left primarily as a no-man's-land between the two countries, known for its dangers both in environment and entrances to the Underdark. Though barren, small settlements dotted the trading routes that passed through the rocky trails.

This flock was an established trading group, often smuggling goods between the Underdark and overworld trade stops. While partaking in trade of common goods on the surface, they did have darker business ties. They smuggled not only illicit goods, but could be known to dabble in the darker deeds of trafficking and slave trade. Headed by Shrill, an intimidating leader and cunning fighter, and Creak, a cold, calculating mage, the flock had little concerns or troubles with their activities. Problems did arise though when the flock started trade with a drow warlock they knew simpley as Athil.

Athil and Shrill had differing business tactics, and through a series of miscommunications resulted in Shrill being shorted on pay for their services. This soured their relations and Shrill, in a fit of spite and anger, stole and withheld goods Athil needed before cutting contact.

Athil was of course angered, though tracking the Kenku flock down again after they fled proved to be more of a challenge than he initially thought. Eventually, he was given a lead in the form of the outspoken and brash attitude of Shrill's daughter, Chitter.

Though young, Chitter had a habit of drawing attention to herself wherever the flock went, and this attention ultimately led Athil to tracking them down again. Not involved in the trades with him, she didn't know to fear the drow when he approached her, and was intrigued by the attention he offered. It didn't take much to befriend the young Kenku, and after gaining her trust, Athil convinced her to take her back to the flock. He posed as someone looking for trade, and Chitter wanting to make her father proud jumped at the chance to get the flock some business. She, brought him back to camp with her and to her parents. Shrill immediately recognized Athil as soon as the drow showed his face, and things quickly fell apart from there.

Athil ambushed the flock. With creatures from the Underdark at his command he tore their camp apart, targeting any and all of flock he came across. Up against Shrill and Creak, Athil took his true form of a drider, though he had no intention to kill them. He wanted them to pay for their wrongdoings, and would tear everything they had apart. Targeting Chitter instead, he attacked the young Kenku, knocking her unconscious and teeing her leg off.

Chitter remembers very little of this ambush or resulting fight. Her memories are lost in the chaos of the ambush and from having been attacked. She awoke much later, by herself in what remained of the flock's camp. The bottom of her left leg had been torn off and her head pounding with only bits and pieces of scattered memories to remind her what had happened. All she knew was it had been her fault they were attacked, and now she was alone. While some of the flock were dead at the site, most were missing, and she figured they'd gotten away. Though she had been left behind, she assumed that her family had thought her dead in all the wreck and chaos, and that's why they hadn't taken her.

Though difficult Chitter did learn to make her way in the world by herself, with the kindness of strangers to guide her along when needed. Eventually, she was taken in by a fellow trading group from the north of Valosana, one that recognized the distinctive white markings her flock leaders were known for amongst other traders. They took pity on the young kenku, and found a place where she'd be safe. She was given to a half-elven couple in the country's capitol of Azos, who'd done some work in enchanted weaponry/ armor for the organization. The half-elves, Aseris and Desana, took a quick liking to Chitter and accepted her as their own. It wasn't long before Chitter looked on them just as fondly, and considered them her family too.

Though Chitter was happy, she couldn't help but long for her flock and find out what happened to them. Protective over their daughter, Desana and Aseris at first didn't agree with her heading off, but knew it would be better for her to search for her flock when she was old enough and find the answers she was looking for. She was given the chance to train and prepare herself for her future journey before finally being allowed to set off. As a parting gift, her mothers granted her an enchanted prosthetic they made her, one that functioned similar to an actual leg, to make her travels easier.

Chitter had been travelling the continent since then, looking for any leads or tracers to her flock, or any information she can find on Athil.

What Chitter Doesn't Know:

- Chitter wasn't abandoned because her family thought she was dead. They knew she was alive, but seeing she was missing a leg thought she would be too much of a burden to care for. She wasn't useful to them if they had to care for her like this. Shrill and Creak quickly agreed on this decision and left their only child there to die. While this may be something somewhat obvious to others, Chitter has herself convinced otherwise.

- Despite having grown up being told and affirmed she would inherit the flock and their business once her parents could no longer run either, this was never really the plan. Shrill never thought she was capable of being in charge of either, Chitter had always been a disappointment to him and would never live up to his expectations or standards. Creak too wouldn't come to her defense, feeling similarly. They spent their time lying to her with no real benefit or gain.

Homelife:

- With the flock, Chitter was always living in the shadow of her family name. She could never live up to the expectations of her father or mother, and their attitudes towards her didn't help with that. Verbally abusive and degrading, with actions that bordered physical abuse,  their treatment towards their only child was abysmal. Chitter did her best to please her family, really trying her best to simply be a good daughter. Though she did have friends and ties with other members in the flock, there was no one she was close to or was willing to stand up to their leaders in her favor

- With her adoptive parents, both Aseris and Desana are extremely loving and supportive of Chitter. They're protective and care about her dearly as if she were their own child, and she loves them as though they were her real mothers. Their chaotic attitudes did rub off on her and are at least part of the reason she is the way she is now, though that's not in any way a shortcoming. If anything she's much better off with them than she was in her flock.

Animal Companions:

- Chitter grew attached to a little field mouse while she was younger, keeping it along with her as a friend and companion. She named him Pierce, and usually keeps him tucked into the hood of her cloak for safe keeping.

- Later in her travels she came across a starving direwolf. Though it took some time, she did gain the wolf's trust by feeding her and keeping her safe while she gained her strength back. She named the wolf Fletcher and now travels with her, using her as a mount in place of a horse. Though Fletcher is huge and intimidating in appearance, Chitter refers to her soley as her puppy and loves her to bits. They both are feral bastards though, and it's not uncommon to see the two of them play-fighting like dogs
