Blackpearl is a forgeiner to the clans, having arrived after the war. He was a young kit when his parents brought him to the mountains, and they were allowed into the clan. He grew up in the clan as normal, but kept his parent's accent. Most give him weird looks when they hear it for the first time, however he takes great pride in it. After he became a medicine cat for the clan, his parents dispapeared one day. To all other cats, he did not show any emotion, he simply treated it as any other event. However, on the inside, this has scarred him forever.

Redkit comes to Blackpearl one day and asks what it takes to become a medicine cat. Blackpearl divulges him a little, but is scared for the young cat. It's a lonely life being a medicine cat, and he wishes to see all of the kits of the clan grow up happily. Redkit also has a strange obsession with death and his dead sister. The tom is a little afraid of the kit, but takes him as his apprentice anyway. Little did he know the kinds of omens this apprentice would soon discover.
