The Virtanii are a highly social species, keen on trading and traveling to other nearby factions and groups. They rely heavily on the trade agreements and cooperation between species, because their natural forms are not particularly good for tinking and invention. With such a clear dependency on other species, Virtanii have naturally become great ambassadors not only for themselves but for the other species they share a planet with. They are quick to form social bonds, and tend to hold onto those bonds for life. For fellow pack members, that bond is even more serious. Virtanii believe very strongly in the idea of the soul, but not in its presence in a single person. Rather, they believe that the soul exists within the collective pack, and living isolated is a kind of death of the soul.
- The snow in the Northern Plateaus is covered with blooms of extremely cold-tolerant red algae, so much so that rivers and lakes fed by northern glacial and snowmelt then to be at least somewhat red as well. Since the plateaus don't offer much in the way of shelter from predators, the red winter coat that Virtanii have is extremely important for camouflage
- Sexual dimorphism is negligible, nearly nonexistant, and more present in social strata. Virtanii soul-bonded with other Virtanii can become alpha-mates, and go through a second puberty.
- Virtanii have consistently been preyed on by gigantic non-sapient bird species. The light spots allow them to passively keep an eye out for predators, therefore they tend not to do as well in forested areas.
- Despite living in a snowy, cold environment, the Virtanii do not have double or triple coats. The Plateaus are essentially deserts, and rarely snow. They also do not shiver. They rely on dens, parallel circulation, fellow pack members, and their own tails as blankets in order to get buy.
